several months . elsewhere at several months. elsewhere at pmqs earlier today, the government declined to rule out further increases to inheritance tax or changes to agricultural property relief. deputy pm angela rayner was asked by shadow cabinet minister alex burghart whether she would commit to the policies mr burghart also branded high tax and high inflation as starmer ism, as he criticised the government's approach to farmers. we've committed £5 billion to the farming budget over the next two years. >> that's the largest ever amount for sustainable food production in the uk, and it's alongside £60 million, mr speaken alongside £60 million, mr speaker, to support those affected by extreme wet weather and over £200 million to tackle disease outbreaks. >> his party couldn't even get the money out the door for farmers failing to spend over £300 million on farming budgets, perhaps the right honourable lady thinks that everyone came to london yesterday to thank the

government . government. >> let's look at the facts. a typical mid—sized 360 acre, 360 acre family farm in the constituency of my right hon. friend for thirsk and malton. they've spoken to their accountant. their new liability because of this government is half £1 million. that's 12 years worth of profit. when this generation passes away, that farm will become totally unviable. and it's just one of thousands and thousands of similar farms. it's clear the government hasn't got its facts right. the central association for agricultural valuers, the real experts in this field, say so.the real experts in this field, say so. the nfu says so. they are shortly to publish a report showing that 75% of all commercial farms will fall above the threshold . the threshold. >> elsewhere, uk inflation jumped last month, in part due to rising energy prices. the inflation rate hit 2.3% in october, an increase from 1.7% in september. meanwhile , annual in september. meanwhile, annual gas and electricity bills rose

by about £149 last month, although prices are rising much more slowly than in recent years. treasury chief secretary darren jones insisted the latest inflation figures were, quote , inflation figures were, quote, good news. but shadow home secretary chris philp told gb news everyone will be worse off. >> this is not an accident that inflation has jumped up. it's a consequence of what this labour government has done and it's particularly galling because in, you know, in government, we spent quite a long time in the last two years battling to get inflation down. there was obviously globally high inflation, a couple of years ago. we got it under control and labour have made a load of bad decisions in the last few months that are now putting inflation back up, and that means every single one of your viewers, every single one, is paying today higher prices as a result of decisions that rachel reeves and keir starmer have made and actually , you know what? actually, you know what? inflation affects the nhs as well. so the nhs, police forces, schools, they're all going to be paying schools, they're all going to be paying higher prices as well for the things that they buy to, to

run the nhs. so it's bad for the nhs as well as being bad for you and me and every single one of your viewers. >> meanwhile, amid concerns over president elect donald trump's promises to hike trade tariffs, his son eric has told gb news his son eric has told gb news his father wants a strong relationship with the uk. >> my father generally likes free trade, but free trade has not been free, right? and so people like to hide behind the guise of the words free trade , guise of the words free trade, but it's just the guise of cheap words. i think my father would love nothing better to have a great relationship with with the uk. >> does the behaviour of labour activists, labour mps, would that stick in your father's mind when it comes to trade deals and tariffs? >> do i think that helps foreign relations? no, i don't think it helps foreign relations. >> and if you want to hear more, you can catch ben leo's full interview with eric trump tonight at nine on patrick christys show . the funeral of

3:09 pm
launched into russia for the first time. fragments of one of the missiles were found in a village in the kursk region earlier today. and for the latest on this, i'm now joined by our home and security editor, mark white. mark, a significant development. what's the latest? >> well , yes, development. what's the latest? >> well, yes, there's no doubt it hasn't been officially confirmed yet by the uk government or the uk military. but there are these reports that fragments from a storm shadow missile were found at the village of marino, which is in russia's kursk region. now, the importance of the kursk region is that this is where in august of this year, ukraine launched a surprise incursion into russian territory, aimed really at diverting precious resources away from the front line in ukraine. and really, ever since august, ukrainian troops have been fighting inside russia and that is, as we suspect, taking a
3:10 pm
lot of attention away from elsewhere in ukraine, where russia would like to be concentrating. and we know that in recent days, thousands of nonh in recent days, thousands of north korean troops have joined their counterparts from russia in the kursk region in what is going to be the start of a major offensive against the ukrainian forces. so it's against this backdrop, martin, that first president biden gave permission for these atacms long—range missiles to be used within that kursk region to go after the likes of supply lines , fuel likes of supply lines, fuel depots, air bases where the counteroffensive could be launched against and now it seems that britain has followed suit with these storm shadow long—range missiles also being used in the kursk region as well. what the response from russia will be will we await?
