2:05 am
there. i don't know what's wrong with paying a man to sit in a chair. 72 million. >> you do need a hat, though. >> you do need a hat, though. >> i do need a hat. it's a bit shiny in here. let's start with the times. >> yes, the times has the uk economy taking a hit after labour tax increases. so apparently the pound stocks and retail sales all suffer falls. so the pound has gone down against other currencies. our stock market is down and retail sales are tumbling. this is an extensive survey of businesses that found that private sector activity fell to a 13 month low in november, as companies are cutting back on hiring and investment. and this is because, i mean, they've been hammered with layer upon layer of tax. there's national insurance, there's the minimum wage, which obviously is a is a tax if you're running a. if you're running a shop . so yeah, the running a shop. so yeah, the really the really struggling. and so a lot of them are going to you know they're cutting back on staff and it's affecting business confidence. of course rachel reeves are chancellor is blaming the previous

administration, the previous administration. britain's economy was actually one of the strongest in the world, was one of the strongest in the g7. so for her to say, oh, we inherited a terrible a terrible economy. no, you didn't, you inherited an economy that was firing, was roaring. what you should have doneis roaring. what you should have done is fire loads of public sector workers and maybe cut tax. >> that's that's what they're going to do . going to do. >> that's what they'll do eventually. what they'll have to do eventually. >> yeah. i mean, i'm not an expert on economics, but i never really understood how this budget was supposed to create growth. reeves talks about creating a stable foundation that businesses need for growth, but i'm not sure that labour know what businesses are. i mean, keir starmer just referred to blackrock as a business. it's not really a business. it's not like selling hoovers and stuff. it's a it's a sort of a globalist financial monolith. it's a private equity fund. it's more of a parasite. it's not really a business. i think he thinks that's a plucky up and coming start—up or something. >> so i really trust blackrock to be to be in charge of my food and british farmland. i mean what a brilliant idea. instead of the families who've been custodians of the land for centuries. why not hand it all
2:07 am
to an american private equity firm that possibly hates us.7 >> yeah, let's hand it over to shadowy foreign equity firms. i mean, exactly. >> i mean, well, nick, they did , >> i mean, well, nick, they did, you know, labour when they're out of power, they spent a lot of time meeting with business leaders and cultivating them, and then they've got into power. and this is obviously the results. speak for themselves, right.7 >> yeah. i mean, just business are giving a thumbs down to it, as it says, and particularly the national insurance thing for employers, isn't it. so. but but i've never understood what because liz truss was like so much growth. but she hadn't thought it through. but this this i just don't understand how this i just don't understand how this was ever going to lead to growth. they care about big, big business, not small business, don't they? >> and i think they're, you know, at heart they're sort of socialist, really quite hard left socialist almost communist. they have this innate suspicion of business and private private enterprise and free markets. they think the only thing that should be trusted with anything is the state. the state should run your lives. the state should give you your job. but i mean, give you yourjob. but i mean, look how that worked out in the soviet union.
2:08 am
>> well, whether it's ideological from that point of view or it's economically ideological, and this is how they think is the best way, and that there are gaps in our economy that need to be bolstered by doing this. >> maybe it's that we'll see. rachel reeves was not actually an economist, but just did some crazy. >> that's crazy talk. there's one very important story before we move on here. there's what's it like to be a size 16 and on the front row? and i just want to see the other article, which is what it's like to be the person sitting next to the size 16. yeah. >> because 1521 00:08:2
