the newsroom. >> the top story. well, let's start with that breaking news just in to us on those net migration figures. figures to the uk have risen by 20, fallen by 20% in the year to june 2024, according to the latest ons figures. just out in the last few seconds that number the difference between people arriving in the uk and leaving, now stands at 728,000. in the year to june 2024. as i say, thatis year to june 2024. as i say, that is down from 906,000 in the year to june 2023. those figures reveal the situation inherited by the new labour government, who took office in july. we will have plenty more on that with our home and security editor, mark white, in the next few minutes . a police investigation minutes. a police investigation has been launched into more than five people who may have facilitated the former harrods boss, mohamed al—fayed, in his alleged sexual abuse of dozens of women and girls. the force is reviewing evidence spanning from

the same figures, andrew? yeah, so? >> so down from 906,000 to 728,000. so that is still three quarters of a million people came in. >> and what will be interesting, of course, is how many people are leaving because we know there are particularly a lot of very wealthy people are just fleeing this country at the moment because of the tax situation and how many people are coming in. let's go to our newsroom. let's speak to our home security editor , mark home security editor, mark white. mark, you've had about six minutes to digest these figures. what do you make of them? what conclusions can we draw ? draw? >> well, a lot less than six minutes. by the time you actually find the relevant statistics. so we're just trying to unfold them now. i think that key headline figure, of course, is the interesting one, the fact that the number in terms of the net migration, the number coming versus the number leaving is down 20% to. you can see it here on the for office national statistics website , to 728,000
