point. a crisis point. >> elsewhere, concerns over britain's biggest supermarket selling milk from cows fed with chemicals to stop them farting. why.7 well, chemicals to stop them farting. why? well, to save the planet of coui'se. >> course. >> latest innovation we're looking at is beauvert beauvert as a feed additive developed by dutch company dsm that allows farmers to reduce enteric methane emissions from our dairy herds and is masterchefs gregg wallace cooked over allegations about his behaviour. >> tonight's panel are ready to go. i'm joined by reform uk's dame andrea jenkyns , senior dame andrea jenkyns, senior political correspondent at the daily express. kristian corgi and political commentator andy williams . and it looks like williams. and it looks like camilla is taking her defeat. well. >> i just have to remind you, don't you ever let anybody take your power from you ?
3:01 am
your power from you? >> just who can we trust to protect our borders? that's after your news headlines with sophia wenzler. >> ben. thank you. good evening. it's just gone 9:00. these are your headlines. a cabinet minister was convicted of fraud after a police investigation involving stolen and missing mobile phones, according to the times newspaper. the transport secretary, louise haigh, reportedly pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation in 2014 after an internal investigation by insurance giant aviva, where she worked before becoming an mp. miss haigh said she was mugged while on a night out in 2013, then later discovered that the mobile in question had not been taken. she declared her conviction in full to. sir keir starmer on being appointed as shadow northern ireland secretary in 2020. it's understood her conviction is now

classified as spent. meanwhile, the conservative party chairman, nigel huddleston, has responded, saying these are extremely concerning revelations. keir starmer has serious questions to answer regarding what he knew and when. the prime minister has accused the previous government of running an open borders experiment, while giving a press conference at downing street today. in the latest migration data , net migration fell 20% in data, net migration fell 20% in the year to june 2024, down from a record high of 906,000 in the previous year. meanwhile, the cost of the asylum system has soared to more than £5 billion, nearly 12 times the amount spent a decade ago. sir keir starmers speech comes as the government has announced an immigration deal with iraq. meanwhile, the shadow home secretary, chris philp, has responded, saying the prime minister has no plan and no desire to tackle the high levels of migration. >> well, keir starmer had almost

nothing of substance to say. this is a man who has ruled out having a cap on legal migration. it's a man who cancelled the rwanda deterrent before it even started on his watch. already small boat crossings are up by 23% compared to last year. he promised to close down asylum hotels, yet we find out today that 6000 extra people are in those asylum hotels. keir starmer has no credibility on this issue, and what he announced today had almost no substance at all to it. >> now, masterchefs gregg wallace has posted on social media to thank people for showing their support after stepping down from presenting the bbc cooking show following allegations of inappropriate sexual comments. kirsty wark has accused gregg wallace of making sexualised jokes during her time on celebrity masterchef in 2011. the former newsnight host is one of 13 people to have reported inappropriate comments from wallace over a 17 year period. wark claims that she shared

stories and jokes of a sexual nature in front of contestants and crew, which she felt were really, really in the wrong place. other allegations include wallace openly discussing his sex life and making inappropriate comments to female colleagues. the 60 year old stepped down from the cooking show as the bbc investigates the allegations, and the scottish government has announced all pensioners in scotland will receive a winter fuel payment next year from 2025. every pensioner in the country will receive the new benefit, with those in receipt of qualifying benefits like pension credit getting £200 or £300 depending on their age and wealthier pensioners getting £100. it comes after both the uk and scottish governments earlier this year axed the universal winter fuel payment. those are the latest gb news headlines. now it's back to ben for the very latest gb news direct to your smartphone. >> sign up to news alerts by

he's right, of course, but i don't think for a second that labour will be any different. it was, of course, tony blair, who opened the floodgates to uncontrolled mass migration in the 90s. and the truth is, i don't think anyone in power gives a about the problem. i think they rather enjoy the cheap labour. the erosion of culture and a divided society. that's why i assume the pm refused to put a cap on migration today. >> we had a supposed cap in place for the best part of a decade, and it didn't have any meaningful impact on reducing immigration. so i don't think setting an arbitrary cap, which is what previous governments have done, is the way forward. but do i want it significantly to reduce? yes, i do, and that's what our plan will achieve. >> okay, so what about the tories? we heard similar pledges from them over the decades, but we can all see how that's ended. kemi badenoch said all the right things in her big tory leadership speech need to talk about immigration. >> we need a new approach. the system is broken. we can't go on
3:07 am
like this. we got it wrong and we are going to learn. the conservatives are going to develop a detailed plan for immigration to put before you at the next election, not the policies of labour, which are going to fail. >> the system is indeed broken, but we've heard it all before. reform uk didn't wait to pounce after the release of the new migration figures today. q nigel farage. >> immigration figures, which are horrendous. horrendous. if you want to get a gp appointment. horrendous. if you want to travel around britain's motorways. horrendous. if you want your kids or grandkids to ever get a foot onto the housing ladder. ever get a foot onto the housing ladder . horrendous. ever get a foot onto the housing ladder. horrendous. in terms of producing very disjointed societies and communities. and the message is pretty clear. three quarters of a million in the last year. three quarters of a million in the last year . and don't believe the last year. and don't believe the last year. and don't believe the lies and spin that it's a 20% reduction from the year

before. it isn't. the year before. it isn't. the year before figures have been raised now, in two instalments by 230,000, and reform took a victory lap after announcing former tory minister dame andrea jenkins as a new recruit to the party. >> she'll be the reform candidate for mayor of greater lincolnshire in may next year. >> today i've joined the party of the brave. our once great country is at a crisis point . country is at a crisis point. labour's record speaks volumes already. you must agree they have compromised our british territories, fleeced our farmers, and they're punishing our pensioners. in the past five months, as we have seen , our months, as we have seen, our british people have been locked up for expressing their opinions while real criminals are being released early onto our streets. this is not the britain that we deserve. >> so there we have it. lots of

talk, lots of promises. but britain continues to bulge under the weight of its open borders. can anyone be trusted to slam the door shut? let's get the thoughts of my panel now. joining me this evening is the woman of the hour, dame andrea jenkyns. herself reform uk's party candidate for the mayor. elections in lincolnshire. senior political correspondent at the daily express christian cowley and political commentator andy williams. good evening. panel. andrew sven special. good evening to you. you've had a day and a half. i've been naughty again, ben. >> what are you busy? >> what are you busy? >> causing trouble. you explain your big decision then. when did your big decision then. when did you decide it? when did you speak to nigel and the team? yes. tell us about it. >> i mean, yeah, i haven't. so this is an exclusive. when all the conversations started. actually, ben. so, i mean, obviously, as we know, i was talking before the election, but i believe in being loyal to the party and the fact that you got elected with that 1523 00:09
