tv   Christmas Breakfast with Patrick...  GB News  December 26, 2024 6:00am-11:01am GMT

6:00 am
of course, that epic finale and of course, that epic finale of gavin and stacey. >> yes it was. and are you on the hunt for a boxing day bargain? well, you'll be joining the almost 22 million of us who are expected to splurge today as we look set to splash almost £4 billion in store and online. >> blimey, it's the traditional boxing day fox hunt taking place. as well as families venture outdoors to watch the hounds and riders on horseback head into the countryside for trail hunting. but could the tradition be coming to an end as labour pledged to change the laws to end it? >> plus, the king praises diversity in ethnicity, culture and faith as he praises health care workers and issues a plea for unity after what he called the anger and lawlessness of the summer riots. is he right? >> yeah. was he right? make sure you send us all of your thoughts as well. plus, later on in the program, we are going to be heading to the races at royal downs in lisburn with dougie
6:01 am
beattie to get all of the latest on what's going on there this boxing day. >> and are you still thinking about food? i think patrick probably is. yes i am. yeah you are. okay. we'll be looking at all of the top tricks and tips to make the most of your christmas dinner leftovers, if you have any. >> have you got a boxing day walk planned? well, join me later for the full forecast of what you can expect. and for the rest of this week, it's just gone 6:00 in the morning. >> i'm patrick christys and i'm emily carver. and this is gb news boxing day breakfast. >> wow. >> wow. >> we had we had quite a few leftovers. yes. >> well, exactly. yes. and i don't mind admitting that i got back out of bed shortly before midnight and attacked the wheel of cheese. >> so this is just what i'm not aware of. you know, i'm fast asleep getting my beauty sleep
6:02 am
before arriving here. not that you need any. thank you. thank you. but he's out there, you know, attacking the fridge again. >> round two. stuffing it in that red onion chutney. that was me. i'm sure that many of you will have overeaten and left it out. well, overeaten and overindulged if you're anything like me. so yesterday we had loads of wonderful pictures of your families, your christmas setup, and you're getting the table ready. and that was really lovely to see. so thank you very much for sharing that with us. but today i think we want to see some evidence of that overindulgence, don't we? i'd quite like to see relatives passed out on the sofa, with the telly on in the background and just looking at you all there, languishing in the remnants of that turkey. >> yes. did you have a relative who fell asleep a little too early, perhaps? yeah, yeah. any leftovers? what are you. also, i want to know what you're doing with those leftovers today. are you going to whip up a turkey curry? brussels sprouts. you got any of those left? a oh, what do
6:03 am
you call it when you just chuck everything in a pan , bubble and squeak. >> bubble and squeak. there you go. yes. you might be going on a boxing day walk, potentially. look, get those pictures coming into us thick and probably all should be going on a walk today, really, shouldn't we? i need to go on a marathon, i think, actually, but you can just email us the usual way gb views @gbnews. com whatever it is you're doing today with your families, etc. it was a real pleasure for us yesterday to sit here and genuinely feel as though we were sharing christmas morning with you all, so it'd be nice to do it again on boxing day morning, i think. >> well, absolutely it would be. and we had a lovely christmas. so after we left here, you know, about half 11 went over to my family's, well, my parents house and we had a well, we had a banquet, didn't we really? >> absolutely. yeah. >> absolutely. yeah. >> huge amounts of food. trifle. and the christmas pudding did come out yesterday. we were talking about how the christmas pudding has gone out of fashion. it might become extinct, but we brought it back. >> we brought it back. and yeah, we luckily did not have a rancid turkey. a little bit later on in the show, we're going to be
6:04 am
showing you what has become an unfortunate christmas tradition for people. people sending pictures in. in fact, i think we can show you this now. so some people look at this. all right. i appreciate if you're probably already feeling a little bit tender this morning. this isn't necessarily the best thing for you to see. but people say christmas is ruined. some of their turkeys turned up and it was all gammy. >> not sure what's going on there. >> yeah, grief. i mean, gosh, that would be the nightmare. this happens, isn't it? >> a lot of people can order their turkey in advance. they go to pick it up. >> are those pictures? can i just say, when i first saw this picture this morning, it was it was small on my phone and it looks alright. and now we've just beamed them out in high definition to everyone. it's made me feel a bit ill, but really a bit queasy. there we go. >> yeah, i mean, they're not attractive, are they? oh no, he's raw. >> but do you imagine that you spend people spend £150 on a turkey these days , and it turns turkey these days, and it turns up and it's bright green. >> also, i think we should show a picture of our christmas dinner. i'll have to get that sorted. we'll get that tease
6:05 am
ahead to that. >> yeah. absolutely. >> yeah. absolutely. >> absolutely everything. well look sprouts galore. >> there's loads for us to pick through today. now, you might not have watched gavin and stacey. we didn't. we were planning on watching it later today i think. but apparently it was great. oh my goodness. >> it's got five stars all round. >> yeah we're going to be talking about christmas telly. it was a good day for christmas. telly started off of course in fantastic fashion by gb news christmas breakfast. but then it managed to even get better than that, didn't it? so we're going to be reviewing all of that. we are going to be reviewing the king's speech. there was a bit of controversy about the king's speech, so it was quite nice and wholesome in the round, i think. but what did you make of his decision to go off that usual line, didn't we, about how diversity is our greatest strength? he mentioned the summer disorder as well. was he right to do that or should he have just ignored it? >> i think he could have left the summer disorder out. i don't see why we need to be reminded of that on christmas day. also. you know, it's just a couple of lines, isn't it? and it's such a complex issue. i don't know, maybe you could have left that one out a bit miserable.
6:06 am
>> i suppose his argument would be he's the king for everyone, isn't he? he's the king for the entire. >> absolutely, absolutely. but a lot of things have happened this yeah lot of things have happened this year. yeah, a lot of things have happened this year. the summer riots were just one, you know. >> yeah, indeed. well, we do have some other news knocking about today as well. the front pages are in front of us here. so we're going to be picking through all of those. but. well are you going to be joining the boxing day sales as well. we just want to hear from you throughout the course of the show. but there's an interesting little thing to get us going. so the glass industry is warning that the introduction of a new packaging tax could lead to job losses, higher prices for consumers. i think we've got a bit of an explainer on this. >> we do, and o'reilly is here shattering the uk glass sector. >> that's what british glass says will happen under the government's new packaging tax. it comes into force in april and moves the cost of waste collection and sorting from councils to producers. and the heavier the container, the higher the levy brands, retailers and even the consumer
6:07 am
will face higher fees in glass, for example, if you take a 500 millilitre beer bottle that potentially could have ten £0.15 of extra cost put onto it. >> because of this epr tax. so this could push consumers away from glass into less recyclable materials or based on weight. we believe that epr should be really driving recyclability. so encouraging those materials that are recyclable, not encouraging us to go to the lowest cost option. >> brewers are also warning that
