10:07 am
and for the moment there are no more weather warnings in place from the met office with the fog. and there are warnings, though hesitant warnings for the next few hours in the next 24 hours for fog overnight. it's very, very difficult to pinpoint where fog is going to form. the problems that have been over the last 1220 four hours have been around london. the south east city airport was closed, some of the other airports. but the problem with fog is it's called what we're looking at at the moment, radiation fog. a very sort of spooky name, but not quite as creepy as what it sounds. what that is caused by is when the ground loses its heat through radiation and the moisture in the air condenses into fog. and that can happen really anywhere where the temperatures drop. you probably noficed temperatures drop. you probably noticed that this morning felt a lot colder than it has done over the past couple of days. in fact, it follows one of the mildest christmases on record. and as the temperatures drop under clear skies, that's where we're going to get fog. and what i would recommend in the next 24 hours is to keep an eye on those fog forecasts, because they could pop up anywhere. as i said, there's no more at the moment, but they could really,
10:08 am
across the whole of the country, p0p up across the whole of the country, pop up over the next couple of days. and if you've got travel plans, especially because of the impact it has on airports, is to have a look at those and make sure you know where it's going to be affected. >> and nathan, it's just it's not just at airports, is it? there's also passengers that have been advised to check not just their flight status, but but of course travelling on the roads as well. is that fog causing a lot of disruption on the motorways too? >> yes it is. i mean, and this is the problem with fog, as i mentioned, because it forms so rapidly and you know, you can go to bed under a very, very clear sky and wake up under a thick fog. it can cause it can throw people into chaos. it can throw travel plans into chaos. what we're looking at, as i said, is, is fog causing the problems? really for the next it's clear it's clearing today. but again, there's a risk of it through the next 24 hours. and then as we go into new year, as we get a colder air plume coming down from the north, it's going to be more of an issue of wind and rain, a
