french quarter of the city. local police said the driver of the vehicle got out and opened fire on police with two officers shot but in a stable condition. while the suspect was declared dead at the scene. it happened at around 3 am. local time and people are being asked to avoid the area. president joe biden has released a statement following this morning's deadly attack. the us president spoke a short while ago while leaving on a flight from delaware, refusing to give much away, saying in the next hour or so, following what's going on in new orleans, i'm not going to comment until i speak to the group later. >> i've spoken to every member of the agency, from the cia to the to our national security team, to our fbi, the nsc. >> meanwhile, donald trump says his administration will fully support the city of new orleans as it investigates and recovers from the attack. posting on truth social. the president elect said, when i said that the criminals coming in are far

dippers, helping raise thousands of pounds to help those most in needin of pounds to help those most in need in the scarborough community. thousands turned out on the south shore to see scarborough's mayor welcome the dippers, before the town crier sent them away to the cold north sea. our yorkshire reporter, anna o'reilly, is on the beach in scarborough. >> the new year's day dip in scarborough, where 150 swimmers have taken to the north sea. here you may be able to see the crowds that have turned out. hundreds of people have come to the beach here to encourage people to take the dip. and it's all about charity. it's something that's been arranged by the scarborough lions. they take a fee for people to enter that goes towards charity. and then many people here are raising money for charity through doing this new year's day dip. it certainly attracted a lot of crowds. you can see some people here in the crowd in fancy dress. there's been a competition for the best dressed

destination. the reports suggest the man in question got out of his vehicle and opened fire, at which point the police fired back. well, joining me to give us the latest on this is steve gill, a political commentator based in nashville, tennessee. steve, thank you very much for your company. the latest there is pretty harrowing news, and president trump has actually issued an intervention from his truth social social media platform. >> well, it's interesting that the clip you just aired from joe biden indicated that he had talked to the cia and to the national security adviser, indicating that very early on, they suspected that this was, in fact, a terror attack. new orleans authorities just a moment ago are saying now that they suspect 4 to 5 others were involved in this. there are some media reports that he was wearing body armour, although so often we see the case when somebody is wearing tactical gear that it gets reported as

body armour. the fact that the police shot him through the body armour indicates it was probably just tactical gear. but a tragic day in new orleans. and again, the news is still breaking in terms of the details of who this guy was, who he may have cooperated with. new orleans authorities are saying he had an isis flag with him again. they're now saying that there were 4 to 5 other individuals involved. he's reportedly a former us. army veteran, you know, worked in like some capacity in the military, not not active combat, but in capacity as sort of a human relations human resources guy. so there there are details literally coming out as, as we're on the air. >> yeah. and steve, i mean, i wonder to what extent the resurgence of the threat of isis, you know, in the wake of what's going on in syria, for example, that threat is still very much there across the western world. >> well, and there are reports that this this truck traversed, first of all, there were reports
