a terrible experience and he is totally innocent. a night—time curfew has been imposed in the fire hit areas of la, as police warn that anyone involved in despicable looting will be arrested. at least ten people have died in wildfires tearing through the region, with high winds threatening to spread the flames further. five fires are still burning and a man has been detained, but authorities say there is no conclusive proof they were started deliberately. body cam footage from the new orleans attack has emerged, showing shamsuddin jabar firing at police officers, who dived to the ground before they shoot him dead. a warning the following images may be distressing. the us army veteran drove a rented truck into people celebrating on the city's famous bourbon street, killing 14 people. new footage released by new orleans police shows him shooting from behind an airbag as several officers surround his truck

can go live to reform uk's south east conference and our political editor christopher hopeis political editor christopher hope is there for us. and christopher, i believe you've got someone with you. and also, interestingly, it appears that nigel farage might have opened the door to a shamima begum return. what's all that about? >> patrick. hi. welcome to esher in surrey, where we've been here for the south east conference of the reform uk party. and with me is the chairman of the party, zaheer yusuf ziya. patrick was asking now on the channel, what's all this about? shireen obe begum, your leader thinks we should be opening the door to her coming back to the uk. >> well, when reform uk topped a national opinion poll for the first time to find out. now poll yesterday putting it at 25%, albeit joint up with labour. i said to nigel, okay, watch the attacks come in and right on cue. so if anyone actually cares about truth, then they should actually look at what nigel actually look at what nigel actually said, which was that what's happened in syria is that there's been regime change. and
9:07 pm
let's be clear about what's happened as a result of that. you have jihadists in senior government positions. if you are a british citizen and you are concerned that there are people in syrian prisons that are security threats to the united kingdom, where would you rather they were sitting inside a prison in a now potentially jihadist controlled syria, or inside a maximum security prison inside a maximum security prison inside the united kingdom? and that's what the point nigel was making. this is really important. one of the key points is that we've had governments now 14 years of tory rule and now 14 years of tory rule and now this awful labour government where politicians pretend to care about british people and will say the words that they think are going to maximise their outcomes on social media and government and media headlines. nigel farage is the opposite. he truly cares about the british people and will say the british people and will say the things that are true in order that they benefit, including when it comes to security. and that's what those comments were about. >> it's a bit of fair. you're
9:08 pm
saying it's an attack on reform? i'm just quoting about what he said. he said i'm instinctively never wanted to allow her back to the uk, but now i'm thoughtful. so he's opening the door to the idea of her coming back here and going to high security prison. is that what you're saying? >> well, the first point is, as he said multiple times, instinctively he would be against it. and look, everybody watching this knows what nigel farage stands for. he stood for it for 30 years. but look, the facts on the ground have changed. there has been regime changed. there has been regime change in syria. and let me say it again, there are islamists and jihadists now in senior governmental positions in syria. it's a highly unstable situation. who knows how it's going to pan out. so and by the way, we have a totally permeable border. now people are crossing the border, tens of thousands, around 37,000 crossed last year alone. we're seeing in some days hundreds cross the channel, including, by the way, people originated from syria, even though they're now coming from france. so the reality is what nigel said was national security matters. we would rather such people were in maximum security
9:09 pm
prisons in the uk rather than sitting in prisons in syria, potentially in the hands of islamists who might have different views. >> but when you're leading the polls, you get more scrutiny. now, a dozen or so reform uk councillors have apparently quit or may quit the party tonight. is that worrying? they're saying here in a statement that there has been no meaningful steps towards democratising your party, which he promised to towards democratising your party,
