police were called to rochdale road yesterday to reports of a stabbing. greater manchester police has said it's believed a member of the public attacked the staff at royal oldham hospital with a bladed article or sharp instrument, which was not a knife. the force added the woman, who is in her 50s, suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital for treatment and her injuries are believed to be life changing. in other news, reform uk leader nigel farage has accused the health secretary of attempting to conceal the reality of grooming gangs after he claimed the public discourse could risk vilifying certain communities. wes streeting had said the rhetoric around grooming gangs risked causing a second new zealand mosque massacre. mr farage told the telegraph that mr streeting remarks were insulting. that's now as labour mp dan carden has broken ranks from sir keir starmer, joining andy burnham in his calls for a

national inquiry into the scandal. fury over grooming gangs has reignited in recent weeks after labour blocked a national inquiry, backed by kemi badenoch and tech billionaire elon musk. science secretary peter kyle told gb news earlier today labour are dedicated to making a change for victims bill that we introduced into parliament this week. >> the child welfare bill had as its central commitment, multi—agency co—operation. for fact we would deliver it and the conservatives tried to stop it. now, we didn't just introduce this on the back of a national debate. this happened in the last fortnight. we planned this bill in opposition. we have been drafting it in government. we implemented it last week. there are things we are doing and actions we are taking, and we will continue to do so and deliver for those victims. >> the uk health security agency has extended its cold weather health alert for all of england until tuesday. amber alerts will

now run until january the 14th, meaning a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or with health conditions, is likely, the agency says. temperatures dropped to —i3.9 degrees overnight, but the met office has said the cold spell is coming to an end to california. at least 16 people have been killed and thousands evacuated as fires rage on in los angeles. more than 100,000 people are under evacuation under evacuation orders. police say they've arrested two people who posed as firefighters to loot homes. officials say they will crack down on robberies and those who overcharge for services for displaced people. gusty winds are forecast for the coming days, potentially further fuelling the fires and back to the uk. a north yorkshire police officer has died after she was struck by a lorry as she was

helping at the scene of an earlier road accident. the mayor of york and north yorkshire, and deputy mayor of policing, fire and crime, said their hearts are broken. pc rosie prior was standing on the verge of the a19 at bagby, near thirsk, with the driver and passenger of one of the cars involved when the lorry collided with them yesterday morning. miss prior and 41 year old ryan welford, from knaresborough, who'd been involved in the first collision, both died at the scene. the 65 year old lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and has been released under investigation. a teenage boy who was a passenger in mr wilford's car is in a serious but stable condition in hospital. and your final story for now. train managers have launched the first of a of a series of five months of a of a series of five months of strikes on busy rail routes. there are currently picket lines
