southport stabbing spree, has today admitted to the attack on the first day of his trial. axel rudakubana pleaded guilty to the murders of nine year old alice da silva aguiar, six year old bebe king and seven year old elsie dot stancombe. the victims were killed during an attack at a dance class in southport on the 29th of july last year. rada cabana has also admitted to the attempted murders of eight other children and the dance class instructor and a businessman in total. the attempted murder of ten people, in addition to the murder charges of those three young girls. well, he will be sentenced on thursday of this week after also pleading guilty to additional charges of possessing a knife producing a biological toxin, ricin and owning a terrorist manual. plenty more on that. breaking news with our homeland security editor mark white later this houn editor mark white later this hour. turning now, though, to the united states, where donald trump is set to call for a

revolution of common sense in his inaugural address this afternoon, as he ushers in what he describes as a new era of national american success. just two months after his extraordinary election comeback, trump will be sworn in as the 47th president of the united states, with the ceremony being held indoors due to the bitterly cold weather. returning to the white house after a turbulent four years marked by legal battles and assassination attempts. trump will be joined by a number of world leaders, and in his speech, trump is expected to lay out plans for mass deportations, steep tariffs and slashing the size of the federal government. >> but starting tomorrow, i will act with historic speed and strength and fix every single crisis facing our country. we have to do it. and as of today, tiktok is back. the american people have given us their trust, and in return, we're going to give them the best

first day, the biggest first week, and the most extraordinary first 100 days of any presidency in american history. >> well, let's take you live now to scenes in gaza where the fragile ceasefire is now into its second day with three hostages reunited with their families, including the british israeli emily demari. her mother, mandy says her daughter is the happiest girl in the world. after 15 months in captivity, came to an end and described their reunion as the hug she'd dreamed of. she says emily is recovering better than expected, but needs time to heal with her family. and in an emotional plea, mandy urged the world not to forget the hostages. 94 of them that are still waiting to come home. earlier, the foreign secretary, david lammy, said the ceasefire in gaza is a crucial geopolitical moment. but he warned the focus must now shift to creating a political horizon

for palestinians. >> i'm thinking of the 95 hostages that are still held. this is a fragile deal. it's important that we get to the second and third phase. we need a political process. we've got to roll up our sleeves. israel's got to have security if it's going to step back and out of gaza. of course. and if we are to reconstruct gaza, along with arab partners and others, we've got to be sure that in 20 years time, this isn't happening again. that's why you need a political horizon. and our belief is you only get that through two states. >> members of the house of lords are calling on the prime minister to urgently reform what they've described as financially unsustainable health benefit systems. they say benefits assessments are too lenient and urgently need face to face checks. it comes as spending on disability and incapacity benefits has now risen over 40% since 2013, and now costing £65 billion. that is more than the entire defence budget. peers
