the government actually engage with the industry. the chancellor has refused to meet the nfu president. yes, he's met the nfu president. yes, he's met the prime minister. but actually this is a discussion with the chancellor. and yes, i do think there are things we could look at that allows allows reform of the inheritance tax, but still looks after the family farm and keeps that intact. because family farms need to invest, they need to be more productive and they need to increase their investment in biodiversity on their farms and so on. and this tax will completely wreck those objectives. >> well, it is quite shocking that they didn't appear to see that they didn't appear to see that there would be this kind of ricochet. and also the fact that lots of supermarkets. i mean, you've had morrisons, although there was a bit of an issue, but you've also had others looking to join in with the process. i'm finding it very difficult to understand why the government are not even, as you said, engaging with the industry. what is it that you would like them to do if they could come up with a solution, what would you ask them to do? >> well, i think actually a

proper full consultation about the future of inheritance tax would be really useful. but today on the march i was in leamington and warwick today with about 40 tractors from from the surrounding area, along of tractors from all over, over, over england, primarily visiting centres and speaking to some of the farmers there. you know, they are incredibly worried about, especially the next seven years, because it is a bit of in effect, what's been announced is a bingo tax based on how old you are or whether your wife died ten years ago or not. the tax shouldn't be about that. it shouldn't be about that. it should be equitable. it should be based on profits and income, not an asset you're simply using to pass on. and the other aspect is there are many younger farmers 1498 00:08:45,584 -->
