to public life this month after her cancer treatment and said she's looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. and people across the uk will be joining the national moment later by lighting candles with landmarks lit in purple in solidarity. meanwhile, the king himself has been attending a service at auschwitz to honour the victims and survivors of the genocide. his majesty is the first british head of state to visit the former nazi concentration camp, and he sat with other world leaders. earlier, his majesty said the responsibility of remembrance rests on our shoulders. >> liberation of auschwitz is both a sombre and indeed a sacred moment. it is a moment when we recall the 6 million jews, old and young, who were systematically murdered. >> seven members of one of scotland's worst child sex abuse fings scotland's worst child sex abuse rings have been handed lifelong

sentences and warned they may never be released. the group inflicted horrific abuse, including rape and attempted murder, on children under the age of 13 over seven years in a glasgow drug den dubbed the beasty house. judge lord beckett described the abuse as beyond his experience and praised the children's courage and perseverance. the sentences, totalling over 93 years, include lifelong restriction orders, which mean the offenders will remain under supervision for life. shares in major us tech firms have plunged following the rise of a new low cost chinese chat bot called deep seek, launched just last week. the app has already overtaken rivals like chatgpt to become now the most downloaded free app in the us, but the success has been marred by a large scale malicious attack on deep seek. reportedly, shortly after us markets opened and in early trading, trading nvda shares fell by 10% and microsoft and meta also saw losses. developed

for a fraction of the cost of its competitors, the chat bot is raising big questions about the future of america's ai dominance. a person in the west midlands has contracted bird flu after close contact with infected birds. it's one of just seven cases in the uk since 2021, and the individual is now stable in an infectious disease unit, according to the uk's health security agency. the infection was linked to a farm where birds were infected, with a strain circulating in the uk this season. and while the risk to the public remains very low at this stage, antiviral treatments have been offered to those at highest risk. and a major incident has been declared in somerset after heavy flooding overnight, rain and wind still continuing to batter parts of the uk. over 30 flood warnings are in place across england, with residents in the worst hit areas evacuated and emergency teams have been on the ground, with 61 people rescued from

absolutely disgusting. i mean, the judge, when sentencing those people, turning around and saying that they may never be released. all i've got to say, quite frankly, is i absolutely, categorically hope that they never see the light of day again. we debate these kind of issues regularly, you and i. and i mean, the details of this particular particular case are among some of the worst i've ever seen and heard about in my life. those three little children that have been affected by this. i really do hope and pray that they can try and move forward and create some kind of normality in their lives. it's just disgusting. i don't know what's wrong with us in this country, ladies and gentlemen, about the way that we value and protect our children, our most vulnerable in society. we seem to continuously fail them. it's just honestly, it almost defies words. it's absolutely horrific, some of the stuff that goes on. but look, i'm michelle dewberry i'm with you till 7:00 and you can get in touch with me all the usual ways. you can email me, you can tweet or text me, and of course you can go to the

actually earlier today, and she spoke about her experience of the holocaust. >> i was in auschwitz like some service official, and i feel it was a plane devil place , like was a plane devil place, like evil, you know? but from the time that jcc organised right of living from birkenau to jcc, i said, we won't just live one. he said, we won't just live one. he said, this has no last word.

life has. >> well, king charles is the first british head of state to ever visit auschwitz—birkenau. he laid a candle during the commemoration service alongside other heads of state and politicians here in europe, at the foot of a freight train which was used to transport thousands of people, men, women and children into auschwitz—birkenau. behind me, when they were taken off of the train, they underwent a selection. a vast majority of them were sent immediately to them were sent immediately to the gas chambers, and the king spoke. earlier today he was in krakow, visiting the local jewish community here. it's the centre which he actually opens when he was last in krakow in 2008. and he spoke, of course, of the horrors of auschwitz, but also about its liberation 80 years ago today. take a listen. >> the liberation of auschwitz is both a sombre and indeed a sacred moment. it is a moment when we recall the 6 million

jews, old and young, who were systematically murdered. >> well, meanwhile, back in london, the prince and princess of wales was leading the country in commemorating the 6 million jews who lost their lives during the holocaust. and they met a number of survivors in london at the guildhall, the prime minister, keir starmer, and deputy prime minister angela rayner accompanied them. and as well as other people in london, the princess of wales even hugging a member of the community there. and prince william delivered a very powerful speech saying it was a great honour to meet a number of holocaust survivors in london. here's what he said. >> i'm honoured to join you today to mark holocaust memorial day and to remember the millions murdered during the holocaust and in subsequent genocides. we
