>> very good evening to you from the newsroom. 9:03. the top story. tonight. the princess of wales has warmly embraced holocaust survivors at a poignant ceremony marking holocaust memorial day in london. joined by prince william earlier, who described the occasion as a great honour, they commemorated the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the auschwitz death camp. meanwhile, landmarks across the country have been lit up purple to mark the memorial day. and as you can see there, one of those famous buildings and monuments includes the london eye illuminated in the night sky this evening. well, in a moving speech, prince william praised the survivors bravery and said their courage ensures we will never forget. >> we also remember those survivors who have lived with the scars, both mental and physical. their bravery in sharing with us the most harrowing moments of their lives are extremely powerful and ensure we never forget. i assure

them we never will. >> meanwhile, the king has attended a service at auschwitz to honour the victims and the survivors of the genocide. king charles is the first british head of state to visit the former nazi concentration camp, where he sat with other world leaders. following the ceremony, he took a tour of the concentration camps memorial site and as you can see there, he laid a wreath at what is known as the death wall. earlier, his majesty said the responsibility of remembrance now rests on our shoulders. >> the liberation of auschwitz is both a sombre and indeed a sacred moment. it is a moment when we recall the 6 million jews, old and young, who were systematically murdered. >> in other news tonight, seven members of one of scotland's worst child sex abuse rings have been handed life long sentences and warned they may never be released. the group inflicted horrific abuse, including rape

and attempted murder, on children under the age of 13 over a over a period. excuse me of seven years. the judge described the abuse as beyond my experience and praised the children's courage and perseverance. the sentences, totalling over 93 years include lifelong restriction orders, meaning the offenders will remain under supervision for life. a 61 year old woman has been arrested for allegedly dressing in wigs and multiple disguises to take life in the uk. tests for at least 14 other people. immigration officers say she carried out the scheme at test centres across the country, using fake ids and carefully chosen disguises to avoid detection. the woman, though, was detained in enfield, where officers seized false documents and a collection of wigs. the tests are required for british citizenship or indefinite leave to remain, covering topics like uk history, values and society. while the woman remains in custody. as investigations
