6:07 pm
old caretaker ian coates. now, that man himself was a paranoid schizophrenic. he had been diagnosed as such. he had been, in fact, on four separate occasions , committed to hospital occasions, committed to hospital for mental health treatment. but it was out in the community where that mental health treatment lapsed or didn't appear to be any proper care and attention to ensuring that valdo calocane took his anti—psychotic medication. and in fact, nine months before he carried out those stabbings in nottingham, he had disengaged completely. no contact with his gp, no contact with his caseworkers and clearly he hadn't been taking his medication because on the occasions previously, when those mental health care workers had met with him, they knew that he was not taking his medication.
6:08 pm
they had discussed the potential for giving him a longer lasting antipsychotic that would be injected. he had expressed a desire not to be injected, and he acquiesced to those concerns that he had. but in doing that, then he was not medicating at all. he went on a further downward spiral, and, of course, had been also responsible for a number of violent acts leading up to the killings of intimidating and assaulting his neighbours, of assaulting the police. but despite what was known about just how dangerous those individuals this individual was, he was in the wilderness , effectively cut wilderness, effectively cut loose by the mental health authorities in nottingham. >> yeah, indeed. as we've just been hearing, i played that clip at the top of the show where they said it was essentially a ticking time bomb that had been released into society. the other

school. he was then sent to a special school. during his time at the special school, he was on the internet researching school massacres. he'd spoken about his fascination with the manchester arena bombing, his desire to carry out a mass stabbing, but in being referred to the prevent programme they were, it seems, overly fixated with trying to find an ideology that overly fixated with trying to
