gendered and they pushed the idea that heterosexuality is the norm. >> and next week is 50 years since margaret thatcher became leader of the conservative party. we want to know what you think. is she the greatest britain ever? we'll debate that shortly. >> gender stereotypes strike again if you're the wife of a farmer. find out why some people think it's no longer appropriate to call you a farmer's wife. >> wokeist wokeist. wherefore art thou wokeist? a university slaps more than 200 trigger warnings on william shakespeare's works. >> so i hope you enjoyed that little. that little sort of rachel reeves there. oh my god. what did she say? >> i don't mean to blaspheme, but she said, for god's sake. >> oh, for god's sake! >> oh, for god's sake! >> that's what. >> that's what. >> it was. >> it was.

>> it was when keir starmer was giving a speech at the labour party conference. somebody came on stage and doused him with sparkles. >> yes, i remember that. >> yes, i remember that. >> it was quite funny. but i mean, would that be her reaction this morning to these down downgraded growth forecasts? the bank of england has cut them in half to 0.75%. >> well, she shouldn't be surprised. all the measures that she'd put in place, businesses. everybody's been saying this isn't going to work. farmers. everybody's saying it. they're not listening. should she go? i'd love to hear your thoughts. send us your comments at gbnews.com/yoursay. but first, let's get your latest news with aaron armstrong. >> thank you very much. good morning to you. it's just after 9:30, our top stories, the cabinet are to hold an emergency meeting later amid challenging economic forecasts and plummeting poll ratings. downing street says sir keir starmer will chair the so—called secret meeting to discuss labour's plan for change, investment reform and growth. it comes after a

fresh blow to the chancellor's ambitions to stimulate economic growth, after the bank of england halved its forecast for the year and hinted at a further drop in living standards. well, the bank cut interest rates to 4.5% in a bid to stimulate the economy, describing growth as weak and productivity tepid, meaning household finances will come under rising pressure. deputy lib dem leader daisy cooper says rachel reeves should rethink some of her policies. >> the government is absolutely right to say that growth is its number one priority, but the government's measures simply don't stack up and the announcements just yesterday and the warnings that growth is going to be much lower than previously forecast, it should be a real wake up call for the chancellor. we have said that she should cancel the jobs tax, which the government is planning to, to bring into effect in april. and we do think as well, there's a very strong case for there's a very strong case for the government to renegotiate the government to renegotiate the botched brexit deal that we have with the eu to try and get rid of the red tape that is

holding back british businesses from doing all the trade that they could be doing right now. >> meanwhile, a new poll has predicted a three way tie at the next general election, with labour cabinet ministers set to lose their seats in nigel farage holding the balance of power. the survey of 5000 people by mega poll found that in terms of seats, the conservatives would win 178. that's up from 121. labour won 74, down from 412 and reform 175, a dramatic rise from just five seats at the moment. so if a general election were held tomorrow, the figures were replicated. the most likely outcome would point to a conservative reform uk coalition government. celebrity chef gino d'acampo has denied allegations of inappropriate behaviour on the sets of his tv programmes. an investigation by itv news found accusations of misconduct against the 48 year old, including using sexualised and aggressive language, with his behaviour described as unacceptable and distressing. well, d'acampo has firmly denied

the accusations in a statement, saying they're simply not in my nature and describing them as deeply upsetting , and the public deeply upsetting, and the public is being invited to suggest names for the next archbishop of canterbury. following justin welby's resignation. his replacement will be the 106th appointment to the role. candidates must be aged at least 30 and can be submitted to the crown nominations commission, which is the body charged with nominating the new archbishop. that's it for the moment. a full news bulletin coming up at 10:00. >> for the very latest gb news direct to your smartphone, sign up to news alerts by scanning the qr code or go to gbnews.com/alerts. >> so good morning. hello. welcome. this is britain's newsroom. we are live across the united kingdom on gb news with

ben liri and me. >> nana akua morning to you. hope you're well. thank you for your company. nana. first questions first. rachel reeves disaster. is the clock ticking? >> the clock is ticking. she looks like one of those lego pieces, actually. or a bit like twiki in buck rogers. mega mega mega. mega mega. look. okay. keir. all i'm thinking here is that the things that she put in place. so of course high inflation. this is stagflation. stagflation is characterised by high inflation. you've got low economic growth. and then of course you've got unemployment rising. now all the things she's put in place to help unemployment. well the national insurance hike on private employee employees is madness. she even said it herself. that is not going to help. so everything she's done inflation, inflation busting pay rises to pubuc inflation busting pay rises to public sector workers, a lot of them paying it off. 8 billion, apparently out of the so—called £22 billion black hole. again, another unwise move. and then of course, low growth business rates. all the things that she's taxing, even vat on private

schools, every single thing pushes us closer to stagflation. >> fair to say you're a fan, then. >> it's great. >> it's great. >> you do have to wonder. i mean, it's just conjecture at the moment whether rachel reeves will survive. but when this government, and certainly the chancellor, has been putting all their eggs into this basket of growth, growth, growth, and it's not happening, and the bank of england is saying the chancellor's actions has harmed chances of growth. downgraded to 0.75% for 1.5%, you have to wonder, is the prime minister sitting there thinking this isn't working out well? >> well, i think he must be thinking that he's got to get rid of it. but as we know, once you start getting rid of your chancellor. >> you look weak. >> you look weak. you >> you look weak. you are >> you look weak. you are next on the firing block, so he needs to consider that. >> well, look, the chancellor is on notice after her plans for growth have been dealt a massive blow with that disastrous forecast from the bank of england. >> i don't understand why she's not surprised about this. the governor, andrew bailey, warns britain's bloated public sector is dragging down the economy.
9:38 am
>> i think i think it's fair to say that we have seen an increase in public sector employment. we haven't seen a commensurate increase in measured public sector output. >> gb news political editor christopher hope sat down with labour mp for bassetlaw, jo white, to discuss how red wall mps feel about rachel reeves plan for growth. >> there was a level of anger from my red wall colleagues and my challenge to rachel is do that speech again in the north telling our story, because by telling our story, because by telling a story, you're actually attracting inward investment and you're attracting new businesses. so come to the north, please, rachel, you are. you are leeds mp, correct? tell our story and we have a good one. and where we want to invest and where we want to get the new skills and, and i'll be clapping loudly from the sidelines. >> right. well joining us now, fiona czinkota. she's a

financial market analyst at city index. right. fiona, welcome to the program. now, i've explained it a few times, but can you explain to people what exactly stagflation is? >> yes. so stagflation is when you're in a period of stalling or stagnant economic growth. so very, very low economic growth, if any at all. but at the very, very low economic growth, if
