apologised for unacceptable and deeply disappointing comments, which he deeply regrets and would not make today. mr ryan confirmed he was a member of the same whatsapp group that featured racist and sexist messages that former health minister andrew gwynne was also a part of. farmers from across the country are arriving in westminster this afternoon in protest against the government's family farm tax. hundreds of farmers and their tractors are gathering on the way to parliament. the rally on whitehall, organised by save british farming, comes as a petition calling to keep current inheritance tax exemptions for working farms has reached almost 150,000 signatures. that's set to be debated in the commons this afternoon. labour has previously insisted it will not make a u—turn on its plans to introduce a 20% inheritance tax rate on farms worth more than £1 million. they've also said that farmers are the backbone of britain. earlier this morning, reform uk leader nigel farage spoke to elianne eamonn after

steel and aluminium imports into the us. the president is set to make an announcement later today. steelmakers in asia have warned that the tariffs will impact profitability and volumes of steel. it's unclear whether president trump will make any exemptions on tariffs. labour minister dame angela eagle said earlier this morning that it is in the best interests of both the uk and the us that the two countries carry on with their balanced trade. mr trump said he will announce reciprocal tariffs on tuesday or wednesday. leaders of the church of england will gather at the general synod today, where a debate on the macon report, which ultimately sparked justin welby's resignation as archbishop of canterbury, will take place. the archbishop of york, stephen cottrell, is set to lead the debates despite facing calls to resign from some bishops. the church has been criticised in recent months over safeguarding failures. following the john smith review. those are the

latest gb news headlines. now let's go back to tom and emily. >> well good afternoon britain. it is seven minutes past midday and of course , farmers are on and of course, farmers are on their way to whitehall to protest the government's proposed imposition of inheritance tax on family farms. we can see the convoy on its way through west london as we speak. this is, of course, the third time in four months that the rural revolt has made its way to parliament square, demanding rachel reeves u—turns on what they're calling the closing the mines moment for british farms. well, today promises to be the largest such protest in westminster of farmers and their tractors that we've yet seen. joined now by my co—host emily carver live in westminster. as emily, i believe that 1 or 2 tractors have already arrived there, but we're expecting the

bulk a little bit later on. >> today. >> today. >> we are indeed expecting the bulk a little bit later on at about 1:00. that is when we're expecting all of the tractors, thousands of tractors to descend on this area of central london, right outside the houses of parliament. you can see big ben behind me. we've got winston churchill to my left. we've also got whitehall, of course, where downing street is to. and farmers are here to make their voices heard. they're here to make their voices heard. now, a number of tractors have already arrived. they're not being allowed to stop quite yet. i don't believe so. they're doing the rounds. they're going around parliament square and around the surrounding area, tooting their horns, making it known to the pubuc horns, making it known to the public why they're here. and they're here to save the british farm, to save the family farm, to fight back against the inheritance tax rate. now, i'm just going to walk over here because i'm delighted to be joined by ollie fletcher, who is second in command at save british farming. and he's. well, you can hear the noise behind me. he's at save british farming, which is the organiser
