minister, who claims that this two tier justice is morally repugnant. what was the show? a pleasure to have your company. so today is farmageddon. >> part three. >> part three. >> it's the third time we've seen a major protest against labour's inheritance tax raid in westminster alone. and thousands of farmers are staging another tractor protest outside parliament as we speak, as they continue their campaign against changes to inheritance tax rules. well, the speakers are about to start, but first let's cross now to gb news presenter emily carver, who's been in westminster throughout the entire day with the tractor boys and the tractor girls. emily, there's a carnival atmosphere out there. tell us the latest. >> oh, martin, what a day it's been. there are just so many people here today to protest this inheritance tax. so many tractors have descended on
3:02 pm
whitehall. hundreds. last tally i heard was 1400 tractors and thousands more farmers and people who are just concerned about this policy from the labour government. now, i've spoken to a number of farmers and politicians and people who really care, and with me are a lovely large farming family, which is absolutely fantastic. now, phil, you're the dad. >> no. >> no. >> i'm not the dad of. >> i'm not the dad of. >> all of these. >> all of these. >> oh, okay. they're not all yours. two of them. okay. he's the father of two of them. phil, tell us why you're here. >> we're here to save the country. the country in general and the countryside. >> because, well, that's a big task. >> it is? yeah. >> it is? yeah. >> and we're here to. i mean, we the definition of working people will have a look around. these are working people with the money. they're supposed to be looking after working people. but he's not, is he? he's taxing us. we pay tax. but we want to be able to pass the farm on to the next generation and to pay both your tax and your
3:03 pm
inheritance tax. it's not doable because there's not that much money in the job that we do. but we love it. we do it because we love it. we do it because it's our profession. we're born into it. i'm third generation. the friends were with their fourth and fifth generation. so it's not something that everyone can do. it's, it's a, it's a i don't know, you're born you're born into it. and it's something that it's tough. we question ourselves all the time. why are we still doing it. it's madness. >> well, i mean, they do say, you know, a lot of farmers really struggle, you know, with the uncertainty around being a farmer, obviously the graft, but also having that worry about the uncertainty of, of taxes and everything else that comes your way. let's speak to some of the younger generation. we've got two lovely ladies here. you look. how old are you? >> 16. >> 16. >> 16. >> 16 as well. are you looking to continue farming? >> yeah, yeah. >> yeah, yeah. >> and what is it about it that you think will be good going forward? >> i just i've grown up with it, so it's i don't really know any different. >> it's in your blood. is that
3:04 pm
the same. >> with you? yeah. yeah. >> with you? yeah. yeah. >> and what are you studying at school at the moment? are you going to be going to agricultural college, or are you just going to be sticking with the farming from now on end? >> i'm going to agricultural college. okay. great. and you are going to agricultural college. >> fantastic stuff. and are people talking about this issue at agricultural college? >> yeah, definitely. yeah, all the time. >> fantastic stuff. and it's harry here as well, isn't it? harry? now why are you here, harry? >> i'm here to support. >> i'm here to support. >> support all. >> support all. >> the farmers. obviously. i come from a farm in cheshire. dairy farm. we've been farming on our farm for four generations and over 400 years in cheshire. >> and are you worried about the future of. of the farm? >> yeah, obviously it's life really, isn't it, for all of us. you don't really see anything else different. yeah. >> and you guys have been here all day. you turned up early. you made the journey here into central london. it's quite a journey. we've had people coming
3:05 pm
in tractors from derbyshire, from staffordshire, from devon, from staffordshire, from devon, from cornwall, from all across the country. martin. it's staggering. and of course these tractors can't go much faster than 30mph. so you can tell how long these journeys have taken for everyone. i'm just going to come over here to speak to you ladies, just to finish off with why you two here then? exactly the same reason as everybody else. we need to. protect the farmers. because if there's no farmers, there's no food. no food for the uk. yeah. >> and just exactly the same, you know, we pay tax. that's not a problem. but paying tax on something you inherit for the next generation. we never bought it. we inherited it. so why would you pay tax on something that you're providing for everybody really. not not for ourselves for everybody. >> well fantastic stuff. and just very lastly, you're the only person i haven't spoken to yet. one word to keir starmer and rachel reeves. >> go back on your words. save britain, save the future of the of our country and the next generations because we are the backbone. of great britain. >> well, thank you so much for
3:06 pm
speaking to us on gb news. we really appreciate it and good luck with the with the rest of the day. there's a lot coming up for the rest of the day. there's going to be speeches at this stage over here. it has got a little bit damp, but that's not stopping people from standing outside and waiting for those speeches. they're going to be taking place from 315. there's also a debate going on in parliament from 430, where some of our mps, politicians will be able to make their voices heard as well. but we'll be sticking here in whitehall for you to cover this protest for the rest of the afternoon. >> thank you emily, beautiful. great to see some farmers there and some yungblud in particular will be crossing back, of course, those speeches as they happen.thank course, those speeches as they happen. thank you emily, beautiful as ever. let's get back to studio now. i'm joined by matthew stadlen matthew. this is the third time now we've seen a significant turnout. this looks like it's going to be the biggest one. over a thousand tractors, thousands of protesters from all over the for the four corners of the land. but you can't help but feeling that there's something of a
3:07 pm
mexican standoff now. it's the third time they've said the same thing. the labour party, pardon the pun of digging in, ploughing the pun of digging in, ploughing the same furrow. do you think that this protest, as heartfelt as it is and no doubt resonates with a lot of people watching this show, is it going to have any impact? the labour party seem pretty tin eared to all of this. >> i mean, i. »- >> i mean, i. >> get the sense, martin, that you're giving up, and if you're giving up as one of the flag bearers, flag. wavers for a reversal of this tax, and i suspect the writing is on the wall, i thought right from the beginning that the government wouldn't change tack. there's thousands of them there. they're not giving up. >> but how. >> but how. >> many people are there in the country? i mean, 70 million of us or something. this isn't going to change the government's mind. and i think i sense that you get that. now, listen, on the substance of it, i'm trying to work out why we should feel particular sympathy for the farmers who, yes, work unbelievably hard, perhaps harder than almost anyone else in the country. some of them work 365 days a year because they can't leave their sheep or
3:08 pm
their cattle or whatever. yes, they work hard. yes, many of them, it's true, are not cash wealthy, but they are property wealthy, but they are property wealthy nonetheless. everyone else, if they get to a certain threshold else, if they
