tv   Breakfast with Eamonn and Ellie  GB News  February 11, 2025 6:00am-9:31am GMT

6:00 am
the forbidden fruit of take the forbidden fruit of nigel farage's party. >> the lady's not for turning. >> the lady's not for turning. >> another conservative milestone. 50 years since margaret thatcher won the conservative leadership race, will kemi badenoch ever live up to the legendary iron lady. >> and king charles faces backlash. the monarch forced is forced rather to deny a union with labour after a very chummy outing with the prime minister and deputy pm. >> labour backbenchers defy sir keir starmer and call for tweaks to inheritance tax. are the farmers protests getting through? >> we're debating whether the nhs should stop surgeries for transgender people, as it's revealed 1000 operations a year are funded by the health service. >> and the sport this morning were the draw for the fifth round of the fa cup has been made. and after plymouth's giant killing of liverpool, they're going to have to do it all over
6:01 am
again. they've drawn manchester city away in the fifth round talking to manchester city. they play talking to manchester city. they play real madrid tonight in the first leg of the champions league play off. and in golf, the open this year will allow a rebel liv golfer to compete. >> as a scandinavian high in charge of our weather this week. what does that mean for you? well, i'll have the full details later on. >> it's just gone. 6:00. i'm ellie costello. >> and i'm ben leo, and this is gb news breakfast. >> so you know ed sheeran. >> so you know ed sheeran. >> yes, i know ed sheeran. >> yes, i know ed sheeran. >> one of one of the most famous musicians singers in the world. >> ginger ipswich fan. i know the fella. yeah. exactly that. yeah. >> so he was busking in india yesterday, right? and it was shut down by police. oh, he busted quite regularly. it was shut down by police. i don't know if they didn't know that he was ed sheeran.
6:02 am
>> they're not. >> they're not. >> fans. but apparently they said you don't have a license. and there was a big crowd around that gathered, obviously, for ed sheeran. yeah. and the police didn't care. and they just pulled the pulled the cables quite literally. >> talk about a missed opportunity. >> i know. >> i know. >> you reckon? why do you reckon musicians do this now. is it. is it because paul mccartney's done it because paul mccartney's done it before? yeah. and there's lots of them that have done it and they have a little disguise. and then they play their song and then to see if people notice. is it an ego thing to actually think, well, do you recognise me or is it just fun or what? >> i think it's probably them going back to their musical roots they enjoy. >> do you reckon? >> do you reckon? >> spiritual journey. >> spiritual journey. >> enjoying performing without the attention and the celebrity? no. >> i don't know. >> i don't know. >> cristiano ronaldo did it before. have you seen that video of him playing football in? i think it was barcelona with a mask on. that's right. >> fake beard. yeah, yeah. >> fake beard. yeah, yeah. >> doing keepy uppies. >> doing keepy uppies. >> and they're thinking yeah he's a he's a bit good isn't he. and it's i don't know this. there's something about it that's. >> i think in this day and age it's social media attraction isn't it. if you can get a video of you going viral on the
6:03 am
streets of mumbai or wherever it was. >> yeah, yeah. but does ed sheeran need notoriety? >> he gets some. >> he gets some. >> great viral. >> great viral. >> maybe india, i mean untapped market. india. you see, that's what it is. >> have you seen there was one a few months ago of ed sheeran and he was on a boat down a canal in london, and there was a runner who went, you're ed sheeran. and he went, oh, i'll play you something. let me know. >> that's right. i remember seeing it and she requested. >> one of his songs and he played it and the video went viral. so i think that's probably what he's trying to achieve here. but the indian police shut it down. and apparently there's lots of talk on social media, some of them praising the indian police because they prevented any traffic from occurring, because people were stopping their cars to look at ed sheeran, others saying nobody of ed sheeran stature should be treated this way. >> well, you know, the biggest one that ever happened was on the 30th of january, 1969, in savile row in london, and it was at the top of the beatles. it was the top of the beatles apple building, and that was from let it be. so they they did a concert on the top. they decided to go up there and they stood on
6:04 am
the top, and it was the last time they ever played together. and again, the police shut it down and it was a historical moment and still look back on it. but the police know you're going to have to turn this down. people are complaining in offices and it was the beatles playing, so if it happened to them, come to anybody. >> oh, it happens to anyone. well, that's a shame, isn't it? anyway, let us know what you think about that one. >> gbnews.com/yoursay to our top story this morning, the home office. have you seen these videos? they've released footage of hundreds of illegal migrants being deported for the first time. >> yes. data published by labour reveals just under 19,000 individuals have been deported since the party came into power in july. >> the move is believed to be labour's fights back against reform uk gaining more traction in the polls. >> while all of this comes just a week after donald trump's government released images of shackled illegal migrants being transported onto military planes. >> well, let's catch up with the former adviser to boris johnson, oscar redrup, who joins us now. good morning oscar. good morning guys. this is all off the back of course labour in the north west pumping out anti—migration material that was in the colours the branding of reform uk. you just get the feeling there may be getting a bit concerned about
6:05 am
mr farage's party. oh, they're entirely spooked, i think, but i don't think it's just about reform. i think they're. >> well aware. i mean, they're not idiots. i think they know that immigration, illegal immigration into this country, if they don't show competency, they don't deliver, they don't show results. they are in serious, serious trouble. and, you know, i think these videos are in the head space of trying to show the public, not just tell them that there's progress being made, but the brutal reality is that these flights, it's a slight sleight of hand trick almost by number 10, because these flights are nothing new. these flights have been ongoing for, you know, a long old time. now we still have more people coming in than leaving. and actually, i think it's interestingly, i think this is this video has caused more bother than it's worth because i think to the left, the centre and the left of the labour party, it really doesn't sit well. and, you know, we think about that huge majority that
6:06 am
the labour government have. they have a lot of mps there who have no hope of ever getting, you know, promotions and jobs and all that stuff. and they'll see those videos and they'll think, this isn't the labour party that i signed up to. i don't like this. and most, you know, you know, joe bloggs on the street who see this video, they're not idiots. they know what's going on in their communities. they know the pressure that services are under this flight. the videos like this are not going to do anything to change their minds. >> would you say this is a risk for the labour party then, because you'd think for the electorate, this is a demonstratable evidence of them acting tough, talking tough on illegal migration. but then, as you say, you're also risking a split in the party, are you not? if you've got the left leaning mps like clive lewis saying it's cruel. >> yeah. clive is a really, really good example. it doesn't sit well naturally with the labour party. i think speaking a little bit wider to this issue, i don't think, you know, being tough, talking tough on things like immigration sit well with the labour party, just generally including the leadership. in fairness, if we look back, the
6:07 am
tory party, you know, we got into an awful habit of talking tough on immigration, touring tv studios like this. you know, we're going to do this, we're going to do that. and, you know, no results, no progress, nothing. and that that i think is one of the biggest reasons why the tory party fell out of favour with the public. >> and also oscar, just to say labour have been accused of targeting low hanging fruit when it comes to these deportations. they're vietnamese nail bar workers, they're albanians who can go back without much of a problem. i think that comes off the back of because sajid, sajid javid's brother, now runs the deportation department in the home office, and they've been ordered 1554
