6:35 am
i think, in these conversations for us, this isn't so much about raising the money. that's something that will happen hopefully in the future. for us, this is about understanding how the community value this place. is this place valuable and important to them. >> the abbey church of dunfermline welcomes 40,000 pilgrims every year, and its grandeur is fitting of its royal connections. the abbey was founded by queen margrethe in the 11th century, later extended by her son king david and robert the bruce in 1320. more recently, it was king charles's first official visit in 2022 to celebrate dunfermline becoming scotland's eighth city. joint session clerk david williams hopes the community will open up to learning more of the church's rich history when the process begins to discuss its future. >> we are inviting the local community to come along and hear more about the history of the church and discuss with us the

possibilities for its future. it's quite special. we can tell a lot of the story of scotland as a nation from this one site, and the more i get involved, the more i start to understand what this building offers and some of the stories that can be told from it. >> an exhibition running from march 20th 2nd to april 5th will begin the public consultation. in spite of the eye—watering sum, reverend rennie is feeling positive, buoyed by the thought of all those with a vested interest in dunfermline coming forward to participate in shaping the abbey's future. tony mcguire gb news, dunfermline. >> well. >> well. >> there we go. thank you very much, tony. >> we've got a real problem actually, with crumbling churches up and down the country and not enough money to fix them up. >> yes, indeed. well, often i find that those churches are now no longer churches are. they are, which is a bit of a problem. so there we go. well, we have got loads more coming your way. i just want to reiterate so many great talking points on the show. today's
