former prime minister of mauritius and a key figure behind the chagos deal, has appeared in court today after being arrested in connection with money laundering. former prime minister pravind jugnauth has been released on bail following his arrest on charges of money laundering. jugnauth was arrested on sunday after detectives found and seized $2.5 million from his home. last yean million from his home. last year, the government signed the deal year, the government signed the deal, handing the british territory to mauritius, which could cost the taxpayer up to £18 billion. confidence among employers has fallen amid warnings of plans to cut recruitment and increase redundancies, a new report has found. a survey of more than 2000 employers found plans to hire new staff were being hit by impending increases to their national insurance contributions and the national minimum wage. the chartered institute of personnel and development said its study found that a third of businesses expect their employment costs to increase, so

announced he is ready and willing to put british troops on the ground in ukraine to enforce any peace deal. let's go live now to paris and speak to gb news political correspondent katherine forster, who is there live on the ground. catherine sir keir starmer lands in paris and all talk back in britain is the prospect of british troops being deployed on the ground there in ukraine. tell us more. >> yes. good afternoon. we're just a couple of hundred metres along from the elysee palace, where this emergency summit is taking place. now. in the last few minutes, our camera guy, ollie costello, managed to get footage of the prime minister literally walking along the road to those talks, but he's already made it clear that britain is prepared to send troops to ukraine as part of a peace keeping force. now, look, some countries have already ruled that out. poland has said that's not going to happen. but some

countries, like germany and sweden are talking more open, more open to it. and also france, of course, france and the uk, the biggest military powers in europe. but it's all the big beasts from europe. german chancellor olaf scholz, italy's giorgia meloni, mark rutte, the head of nato, and also ursula von der leyen, the eu commission president. and they've gathered here very quickly. given the speed at which events are moving and europe feeling increasingly left behind, while the united states and russia talk to each other about the future of europe and the future of ukraine. so here in this meeting, they will be talking about potential troops, how any sort of peacekeeping might work if and when we get some sort of ceasefire arrangement, but also, crucially, talking about defence

spending. now, donald trump has said that europe needs to spend 5%. he says they can afford it. and a warning today from the polish. they already spending 4.7%. that's exceptional in europe. but donald tusk is basically saying pay up now says europe needs to step up its spending right now, or it's going to have to spend much, much more down the line. now, sir keir starmer, they've indicated they're going to set out a pathway from 2.3 to 2.5%. no timetable for that. i'm not convinced that's
