>> what we can't have is a situation where there is a temporary pause in hostilities, say, which allows putin to return with a territorial incursion into a sovereign country, which leads to the resumption of aggression. and so i think what keir was doing there was talking to other european leaders. he will be also talking to the us president in the coming days. and he has been clear that we are willing to consider playing our role in the future security of ukraine. but that must be done in partnership with the us. >> while shadow. >> while shadow. >> defence secretary james cartlidge has. >> called for higher defence spending. >> we will stand by the government in supporting ukraine. i think on the specific question of sending in troops, obviously, you know, that raises a lot of questions. we want to know exactly what, for example, the terms of engagement are and so on. but but yeah, we wouldn't

rule that out. is we in the uk need to get on with increasing defence spending is no use talking about it. we have been waiting months now for them to get on with that, and i would urge them to start increasing spending and placing the procurement orders we need so that we can start replenishing the munitions, not least those we've given to ukraine. >> well, in. >> well, in. >> the. >> the. >> last few moments, kemi badenoch has hit back at criticism from the. lady chief justice. >> today. >> today. >> saying that parliament is sovereign. and politicians must. >> be able. >> be able. >> to discuss matters of public importance in parliament. >> the head of the judiciary for. >> england and. >> england and. >> wales said earlier today that she. >> is deeply troubled by an exchange at the latest prime minister's questions between sir keir starmer and kemi badenoch about an immigration tribunal decision. during the exchange, the prime minister said a decision allowing a palestinian family the right to remain in the uk after they applied through a scheme designed for ukrainian refugees, was wrong and home secretary yvette cooper had got her team working on closing this loophole. kemi

badenoch raised the case, describing the decision as completely wrong. the lady chief justice, baroness carr, said she was deeply, deeply troubled to learn of the exchanges between sir keir and miss badenoch. she went on to say it's for the government visibly to respect and protect the independence of the judiciary. >> the decision. >> the decision. >> the decision. >> the british couple detained in iran have been charged with espionage, according to the iranian judiciary news agency. the pair were named by their family as craig and lindsey foreman. the couple, both aged 52, had been on a motorbike trip around the world and had planned to stay in iran for five days before they were detained last month. iranian state media said last week that the couple were in custody in iran's southeastern city of kerman on security related charges. and the secretary of state for energy security and net zero has written to energy watchdog ofgem. as a typical energy bill is set to rise by more than £100

3:08 pm
deeply troubled by sir keir starmer's comments. the british pubuc starmer's comments. the british public were deeply troubled that palestinians were being allowed into britain via ukrainian refugee scheme. is she not completely missing the point? >> there is no doubt, i think, martin, that this issue is one that has a great deal of resonance in the country and one that rarely brought agreement from both the opposition and indeed the government in the form of the prime minister, saying that the loophole, as they see it being interpreted by this immigration judge, should be closed to ensure that a resettlement scheme that was aimed at bringing ukrainian families over to the uk to give them safety from that war raging in ukraine, should not be exploited in this way to allow a family from gaza to come over. but of course, we've heard there from baroness sue carr that she feels that this was very
3:09 pm
troubling. the intervention by these politicians. but i should say there has been a pretty swift response to this. first of all, let's just remind ourselves of what the prime minister said in pmqs last week in response to that question from kemi badenoch. >> mr speaker, let me be clear. i do not agree with the decision. she is right. it 1548 00:09:22,000 --> 00:09
