donald trump to stand by ukraine with a security guarantee, as he warned a bad peace deal would be a disaster for everyone. the prime minister is due to meet the us president for talks in washington next week, amid fragile relations between america and europe, after mr trump launched a verbal attack on president zelenskyy. mr trump called ukraine's leader a dictator on wednesday and later said sir keir and french president emmanuel macron haven't done anything to end the war. while writing in the sun on sunday, he said kyiv needs strong security guarantees so the peace will last. and he says america must be part of that guarantee. shadow defence secretary james cartlidge suggested the government may need to reallocate funds from the civil service to boost defence spending. >> well, if you go back to the end of the last labour government, back in 2010, obviously the challenge we had then as a country is that we faced bankruptcy. essentially, the chief secretary of the treasury, who is in charge of pubuc treasury, who is in charge of public finances under labour, had left a note for us that

there's no money left. so we did have to take very difficult and painful decisions. actually, the labour government were planning, if they'd won, to cut defence spending by 25%. so yeah, we did have to take some difficult decisions then. but the thing i would stress is that, you know, you look at 2019 when boris johnson became prime minister, the threat position was already starting to worsen and we had the biggest sustained increase in defence spending since the cold war, when it went up to 2.3%. it's been sustained at that level since. but we do think given what's happening, it does need to go up again. >> in other news, the french interior minister says migration disorders were one of the causes of the terrorist knife attack in toulouse, which killed one and injured three in the eastern french city. bruno rutilio also says one of the injured victims is currently fighting for their life. the suspect, who was arrested at the scene, has been identified as a 37 year old algerian man. he was allegedly ordered to be deported and was on a terrorism watch list. president macron said he had no doubt it was an islamist terror

attack. german voters head to the polls today in a high stakes snap election. it comes as the nafion snap election. it comes as the nation grapples with economic decline and a succession of highly publicised attacks on their streets. it's expected that the conservative christian democrats will win most of the seats, but there's also been a rise in support for the alternative for germany's party. >> conservative leader. >> conservative leader. >> elsewhere, police are investigating how human remains ended up on a stretch of the m4 near bristol after a body believed to be a man in his 40s was found. the body was found between junction 20 at the almondbury interchange with the m5 and junction 21 near auckley in south gloucestershire. avon and somerset police are urging anyone who was travelling along that stretch of the m4, and thinks they may have valuable information to get in touch. and sophisticated electronic devices used by criminals to steal cars are set to be banned under new

much looks like it's possible that they will top the polls in wales, even beating labour, who have historically treated wales as a one party state. over the course of the last 25 years of devolution . and reform reform devolution. and reform reform are putting real, real pressure on labour, who are already feeling pressure because the reason that people were voting for them last year is because of the abject failure of the conservative party in government to get a grip on immigration. that was an enormous and enormous part of the reason people fled
