receive treatment in hospital for double pneumonia. the pontiff was unable to deliver the traditional angelus prayer in person for the second sunday running. the 88 year old spent a tranquil night in hospital in rome, according to the vatican. the vatican described his condition as critical for the first time yesterday, reporting he needed supplemental oxygen and blood transfusions. it also says he is not out of danger. and in breaking news this hour, ukraine's volodymyr zelenskyy says he's willing to give up his position as president for peace in ukraine or a nato membership. zelenskyy says he's focused on ukraine's security now, not in 20 years time, adding it's not his dream to remain president for a decade. his comments come as eu leaders are due to meet in ukraine tomorrow. well, that's the sir keir starmer has urged donald trump to stand by ukraine with a security guarantee, and warned a bad peace deal would be a disaster for everyone. zelenskyy has also said today that he doesn't want mr trump as

a mediator, adding it's not enough. sir keir is due to meet the us president for talks in washington next week, amid fragile relations between america and europe, after mr trump launched a verbal attack on volodymyr zelenskyy. writing in the sun on sunday, starmer said kyiv needs strong security guarantees so the peace will last. and he says america must be part of that guarantee. the prime minister has condemned what he calls the dangerous right wing politics of reform uk in a speech in scotland today. in that speech, which follows weeks of high polls for nigel farage's party, sir keir starmer warned that reform uk is not the answer for britain. >> a dangerous right wing politics, even here in scotland, that will say they are the ones who can tilt politics towards the interests of working people. they claim to be the party of patriotism, but their fawning over putin. no, they are not the answer for working people in britain. >> in other news, the french

interior minister says migration disorders were one of the causes of the terrorist knife attack in toulouse, which killed one and injured three in the eastern french city. bruno also says one of the injured victims is currently fighting for their life. the suspect, who was arrested at the scene, has been identified as a 37 year old algerian man. he was allegedly ordered to be deported and was also on a terrorism watch list. president emmanuel macron said he had no doubt it was an islamist terror attack. well, german voters head to the polls today in a high stakes snap election. it comes as the nation grapples with economic decline and a succession of highly publicised attacks on their streets. it's expected that the conservative christian democrats will win the most seats, but there's also been a rise in support for the alternative for germany party. israel says it will postpone the release of hundreds of palestinian prisoners until the release of

used by criminals to steal cars are set to be banned under new laws in england and wales. more than 700,000 vehicles were broken into last year, often with the help of high tech electronic devices, including so—called signal jammers, which are thought to play a part in four out of ten vehicle thefts nationwide. until now, police could only bring a prosecution if they could prove a device had been used to commit a specific offence. but under new laws in the crime and policing bill, the onus will be on someone in possession of a device to show they had it for a legitimate purpose. making or selling a signal jammer could lead to up to five years in prison or an unlimited fine. and elon musk is being sued over the custody of a son he allegedly fathered with a maga influencer. it would mean the tesla and ex—owner now has 13 children. the woman named ashley sinclair, who's 26, wants full custody as part of her petition. she said she shared
