russian backed separatist regions in the donbas. to mark the event. ukrainian president volodymyr zelenskyy is currently welcoming leaders to the support ukraine summit in attendance. our european commission president ursula von der leyen, european council president antonio costa and the leaders of canada, finland, denmark, norway and sweden. downing street says the prime minister spoke with nato secretary general mark rutte, where they agreed there would be no negotiations about ukraine without ukraine. president zelenskyy says he's willing to give up his position as president in exchange for peace, or at least nato membership. sir keir starmer has urged donald trump to stand by ukraine with a security guarantee, and warned a bad peace deal would be a disaster for everyone. now bringing you some breaking news, local media are reporting that an explosion has been heard near the russian

consulate in the french city of marseille, with fire and rescue services on the scene. russian state media are now reporting that there has been an explosion inside of the consulate, and they say it looks like an act of terrorism. there was no word on any casualties as of yet, and no immediate information on the extent of the damage. we'll of course, bring you the very latest as and when we have it moving on. the vatican says pope francis remains in hospital, where he's also experienced mild kidney problems but continues to be alert and well orientated. pope francis has asked for prayers as he continues to receive treatment in hospital for double pneumonia. the vatican also says the 88 year old spent a tranquil night in hospital in rome last night. germany's conservative christian democrat party have won the country's election. frederick merz party finished well ahead of rival parties, but short of the 30% vote share they had

expected. the other winners of the night were the right wing alternative for germany party, who are celebrating a record second place result of just over 20% share of the vote. the cdu leader now begins the arduous task of forming a new coalition government . nigel farage has hit government. nigel farage has hit out at sir keir starmer after the pm accused the reform leader of perpetuating dangerous policies. in a major speech at the labour conference in glasgow, the pm condemned what he is calling the dangerous right wing politics of reform uk. >> a dangerous right wing politics. even here in scotland. that will say they are the ones who can tilt politics towards the interests of working people. they claim to be the party of patriotism, but their fawning over putin. no, they are not the answer for working people in
