cut military aid for ukraine. trump concluded correctly by adding this is going to be great television. >> he wants to make a deal. i don't know if he can make a deal don't know if he can make a deal. the problem is, i've empowered you to be a tough guy, and i don*t think you'd be and i don*t think you*d be a tough guy without the united states. and your people are very brave. but you're either going to make a deal or we're out. and if we're out, you'll fight it if we*re out, you'll fight it out. i don't think it's going to be pretty, but you'll fight it out. but you don't have the cards. but once we sign that deal cards. but once we sign that deal, you're in a much better position. but you*re not acting at all thankful. and that*s not at all thankful. and that*s not a nice thing. i*ll be honest. that*s not a nice thing. >> well, volodymyr zelenskyy left the white house early. shortly after that fiery meeting. a scheduled news conference was also cancelled at. trump's team have since confirmed the rare minerals deal confirmed the rare minerals deal, which ukraine hoped would provide security guarantees, has not been signed, and trump has

since posted on social media that zelenskyy is not ready for peace. but he can come back when he is. and the kremlin has simply described the meeting as historic. the chancellor says it's disappointing to lose a good colleague over cuts to the foreign aid budget, but she supported the increase to uk defence spending. the minister for overseas development, development, anneliese dodds, has resigned over sir keir starmer's decision to reduce the international aid budget and use it to boost defence spending to 2.5% of gdp. or miss dodds says she disagrees with how it's she disagrees with how it*s being funded, suggesting in her resignation letter there ought to be a debate about tax and borrowing instead. but rachel reeves has backed the prime minister*s decision. >> the decision to spend 2.5% of gdp on defence is the right decision. the world has changed. we can see that all around us in europe and beyond. we have to uplift what we spend on defence and we are funded that by reducing the international aid

budget, that is the right decision in the circumstances that we face today as a nation. >> and pope francis, who has been critically ill in hospital for two weeks, has had what's been described as an isolated breathing crisis at the vatican, says the pontiff has received non—invasive mechanical ventilation to help him breathe as he continues to battle double pneumonia. a statement from the vatican says. the pope's alert, but his prognosis remains guarded. pope francis was admitted to rome's gemelli admitted to rome*s gemelli hospital earlier this month with severe respiratory infection, severe respiratow infection, which triggered other complications. that is it for the moment. i'll be back with more at 10:00. >> for the very latest gb news direkt, your smartphone. sign up to news alerts by scanning the qr code or go to qr code, or go to gbnews.com/poll.

your country. >> and let's be honest, it looks like a deal is off the table. >> he wants to make a deal. i don't know if he can make a deal don't know if he can make a deal. the problem is, i've empowered you to be a tough guy. and i don't think you'd be a tough guy without the united states. >> and then trump told zelenskyy to, frankly. jog on. go home and come back when he's ready for peace. there's a clip on your screens right now of zelenskyy getting in that armoured car and indeed, well, going home, i imagine, i suppose. but i mean, have we ever seen anything quite like that. remarkable. i*ll just like that. remarkable. i'll just ask again so we can get a feel for the room before i go to my panel here tonight. having seen all of that, who's team? trump. all of that, who*s team? trump. >> yeah. >> yeah. >> okay. now there are a few people who are very much team zelenskyy, i think. is that right? yeah. 0h, zelenskyy, i think. is that right? yeah. oh, yes. oh, yeah. yeah. so just to introduce my panel right now, we've got barry gardiner, labour mp on the end there. emily carver gb news star here of course jj. obi christo foufas as well. okay. so first

point i*m going to go to you jj. point i'm going to go to you jj. do you think that trump was right to dress zelenskyy down. >> yeah. by the way when you asked who supports trump everyone said yes you're right. yes. i noticed that. yeah. but davel yes. i noticed that. yeah. but dave i noticed i noticed them do it man. the thing is, zelenskyy, you're going to the highest office, the most esteemed office in the world. put on a suit at the very least. why is he coming in again? always dressing like he's on the front line. he's not a general. he's a president. act like it. and he has done great pr thus far for the last three years. you know what trump's like. go to trump and it's your meeting. sza bow to him and say thank you so much for bringing it for the hope of peace. thank you for everything you're doing, blah, blah. do what you have to do to get that money. but the fact he went in there and was saying, what are you talking about, jd, yada yada yada. no, trump was right to use force. we used to complain about america being the world police. now it's fine. we have a president who
3:07 am
says we*re not in charge of the world. if you want us to help you, it's going to cost you. so i think that*s completely fine. >> now i*m going to go to you, >> now i'm going to go to you, barry. i'm going to take a question from michael in the crowd. so, barry, your views, crowd. 50, barry, your views, i*m just saying question. do you think trump was right to dress him down a bit like that? >> i think it was an ambush, and i think it was deliberately done in that way. the whole point here, you said there's not going to be a deal. i actually think what trump said at the end was, what trump said at the end was, make a deal or you're out. and so i think there is going to be a deal, but let*s let*s work out a deal, but let's let*s work out what that deal is going to cost, because trump has said that it's they*ve already put in $350 they've already put in $350 billion to ukraine. well, actually, it's 182. and that's if you count all the other stuff around it, including the training of the u5 personnel. training of the us personnel. it's more rightly called $119 billion, but still it's a lot of money. but what trump is trying to do by putting that pressure on, by getting zelenskyy
3:08 am
absolutely where he wants him on camera, i think, is to make sure that he gets the deal for the minerals, but he also needs the deal with putin because putin at the moment is in charge of the eastern part of the country, where a lot of those minerals are. so he's trying to play both sides. we'll come back. maximum advantage for the united states, not for europe, for the united. >> okay. right. let*s, let's >> okay. right. let's, let's let's bring the audience in the first one tonight. michael, what have you got to say, mate? >> so interesting one. >> so interesting one. >> interesting what you just said. i 1511 00:08:31,330 --> 00:0
