killed his former girlfriend louise hunt, and her sister hannah with a crossbow after he had already killed their mother, carol, with a butcher's knife. kyle clifford was also sentenced to 20 years for raping louise, in what prosecutors described as a violent sexual act of spite. well, to tell us more, i'm now joined by gb news home and security editor, mark white. mark, a. whole of life tariff seemed inevitable. despicable, premeditated, cowardly attack, and he will now rot behind bars for the rest of his life. >> yeah, i think it was the only option. really open to the judge given the aggravating circumstances here, the fact that it was not just one but three victims, that it had been premeditated over at least 11 days, in which this young man had been planning those brutal murders, had gone out to purchase rope and petrol cans, a

pet grooming business, and for most of that afternoon she was in this pod. cctv had shown her coming out of the pod briefly. there was a couple of customers. then at one point she went walked through the garden into the back of the house. and at that point, according to the court, she will have been confronted by kyle clifford. we know now, of course, that she was raped, tied up, and then shot and killed by this crossbow. and a lot of criticism, not only of kyle clifford for being too cowardly in refusing to attend court today for the sentencing, but also for the fact that in spite of overwhelming forensic evidence pointing to the fact that he raped louise hunt, he had refused to plead guilty to that, and then the family had to
3:10 pm
suffer the ordeal of going through a criminal trial before a jury eventually found kyle clifford guilty of the rape of louise hunt. he did, of course, plead guilty to murdering louise, her sister hannah and their mother carol, and in ordinary circumstances that would have resulted in a mitigation time off your sentence. but given the very many aggravating factors here, the judge had no choice. he felt but to hand down this whole life tariff. >> summing up
