>> very good morning. 935 britain's newsroom with andrew and bev until midday. now. >> the triple killer. you'd have heard it overnight. you've read it in the newspaper this morning. he's received a whole life. well, he's received three whole life sentences for the brutal murder of his ex—girlfriend louise, her sister hannah with a crossbow, as well as stabbing their mother, carol. >> so john hunt, of course, the father and his surviving daughter, amy hunt, attended court yesterday, but they were unable to face the killer as a judge let him off due to effectively being disabled. he's in a wheelchair. >> he's in a wheelchair because he turned the crossbow. crossbow on himself. how ridiculous is this as mitigation? so in my view, bev, the judge made a terrible mistake. he should have been compelled to be in court. the law is being changed to say that if they refuse, two years can be added to their sentence. well, that's no point if you've got a whole life sentence because he's never leaving prison. but why don't they say, okay, no visitor rights for a

year or two years? >> so it's funny because i remember us being on air when this was announced in the king's speech, that they were going to change the rules so. >> that the last tory government said they were going to do it. they never got round to it. >> that's right. yeah, i'd forgotten that actually, that the that the victim, the perpetrator should be in court so that the victims and the victim's families can have that sense of closure, of being able to articulate the impact on their life to the person who has, in many cases, absolutely ruined their life. and there is no case where that is more certain in in the situation with john hunt. but i also i have a slightly different view on this because i understand that need for retribution and that feeling to want to have a sense of justice, but in a way, as a, as a victim of, of that or the victims families, you have to be able to just move on somehow with your life without holding on to that sense of hatred and need for vengeance. the vengeance should come in a stricter, a strict enough

sentence that you go home and you sleep at night knowing that that person is locked up. >> for life. of course he has got the maximum sentence. he's never coming out of prison. well, john hunt, john hunt made a very powerful statement to the court yesterday. >> he did. let's let's read you a bit of it, because he said, i so wanted to deliver these words eye to eye with kyle. i will continue to act if i am doing so. and he says, because of course you forget that this was the boyfriend of his daughter. they'd had him in their life. and he says, do you recall, kyle, how kind we all were to you? >> and of course the mum is the wife. let him in the house because he'd come to the house to apparently see how his ex—girlfriend was, but also to collect some clothes. so she had compassionately said, let him in the house. and then, of course, he stabbed her to death. >> yeah. and he said, louise, that was his girlfriend. his ex—girlfriend conducted herself within a mature break—up on her part, understanding the conflict of saying goodbye to someone she
