back to the michael jackson story now. evidence mounts suggesting michael jackson had a very serious drug problem. confidential court documents show jackson had at least 10 xanax a day, a habit he formed back in 2004. not only that, the documents obtained by cnn show he asked his employees to get the anti-anxiety and sleep aid under their names and that they personally traveled to doctors' offices in other states to get those drugs. last night chief medical correspondent dr. sanjay gupta described to erica hill how addictions spiral out of control. >> people start off taking a few, and they take more and more and they build up a tolerance. that's something that people are familiar with. you vept geventually get to a p where you're taking more and more. when we were studying addiction, one of the pain doctors told me he had a patient who took 80 vicodin a day. so you can get to that point. it is very, very rare, but it can happen.

2:06 pm
we finally -- we very quickly came to the conclusion it was the original casket that emmett till was buried in. >> till was killed back in 1955 after reportedly whistling at a white woman during a visit to mississippi. images of his battered body helped spark the civil rights movement. he had been exhumed during an investigation of his death and reburied in a new casket. his family now wants that casket moved to a civil rights museum. certainly a busy day for a bomb squad in north miami beach. a short time ago they detonated a suspicious package in front of a check cashing place along biscayne boulevard. you see the pack an under that sign. wsvn is reporting a second package in the back of the store, it has 23409 been detona detonated, but it is there. no reports of any injuries. there's no word on what was inside the package that was detonated. that boulevard was closed for a short time. it's now open again, biscayne boulevard. we have just learned the man

welcome back. gm is officially reborn today. now, 61% government owned, the troubled automaker is leaner after exiting bankruptcy in just six weeks. it retains four brands, chevy, cadillac, gmc, and buick, but the question is can the automaker really reinvent itself. cnnmoney.com's poppy harlow is joining us with all the details on this. hi, poppy. >> hi there. i just finished a conversation with the ceo, fritz henderson. he truly thinks this company has what it takes at this point to turn around after $50 billion in u.s. aid propping it up.
2:17 pm
here is how gm will try to turn around. they are really shedding dealerships, cutting from 6,000 dealerships down to about 3,600. what you're seeing there is the goal that gm has to improve that market share that's been declining for decades. let's show you some video and talk about the plants because gm is closing 16 plants. they'll cut 20,000 workers by the end of the year. they're also going to cut a lot of executives, about 35% of their executives there at headquarters. they're going to have significantly less debt thanks to the u.s. aid and it's going to try to make more attractive products. they'll launch ten new vehicles in the u.s. and 17 new vehicles around the world in the next 18 months. the ceo said in the press conference this morning his three priorities are simply this, customers, cars, and culture. but can you really change culture through the bankruptcy process? that's financial. culture is another thing. i asked fritz henderson that exact question. how do you change the culture at
2:18 pm
this company? take a listen to what he told me. >> i have always been a believer that culture is about how you act and how you perform, and where you spend your time, and where we're going to be spending our time as a leadership team from me on down is great cars, customers being singular focused on customers, and finally making sure we have a culture which is faster, leaner, which has accountability embedded in it and it's all about winning. so that's where as the president of the company i will be spending my time. >> susan, so that is what the goal is for the company, change the culture there, turn it around, but, again, a lot of jobs are going to be cut. a lot of plants are going to be closed. they'll try to get that market share up. >> and the ceo, as you said, we just saw him talking about this. he's very confident, but the question is will this new gm be able to turn things around and how will the customer react. >> that's exactly the question because you have gm vehicles that are very popular outside of the u.s. china is a big market. europe is a big market. but u.s. consumers year after year buy fewer and fewer gm
2:19 pm
vehicles. they still sell 1 in 5 vehicles on the road in this country but it's down from a peak of having 50% of u.s. market share a matter of decades ago. what you will look at when we pull up this graphic is there's been a steady decline in the number of cars gm can sell in this country at this point. when you have a problem with market share, you have a problem with viability, and steve gratner, the head of president obama's auto task force, said this this week. he said no company can be truly viable with declining market share. they need to figure out some way to increase that to get more americans to buy their cars, susan. >> that's the goal. a lot of changes. we'll see if it works. thanks so much. for much more on this subject and other business news, go to cnnmoney.com. aig executives may still get millions of dollars in bonus payments. the insurance company is asking the government to approve $2.4 million in scheduled bonuses to

reggie aqui is joining us with more details. >> the newspaper in question is "the news of the world." it's a tabloid newspaper in england, and it was another newspaper in england, "the guardian," that brought these allegations up in an explosive article that they now have on their site and in their printed edition. here is what they're saying. they're accusing "the news the world" which is the country's most popular sunday paper, of paying private investigators to obtain voice mail messages, private phone numbers, bank statements, and other information from as many as 3,000 public figures. so who are we talking about here? well, some government figures in england, but also some really big names in hollywood, including gwyneth paltrow, jude law, singer george michael, and the list just goes on and on. now, uk police say they have investigated this before. they say they are not opening up a new investigation, but they are going to review the details of these latest allegations.
