right now because the funeral was held today for byrd and melanie billings, and the family spoke publicly for the first time since the couple was gunned down in their home. ed lavandera is in pensacola, and, ed, it's really unusual, i think, i can't think of a situation where we've heard from the family half an hour before a funeral. >> reporter: yeah, this is a rather shocking to kind of see that, to be honest, and we understand that those funeral services have just wrapped up and we know there's a great deal of turnout for it. family and friends, including the children that were there today as well. so -- but there was kind of a double-edged purpose to this. one of the family members came on and talked about how great byrd and melanie billings were and tried to get the focus on them, but it was the attorney for the family that has really drawn the headlines here this morning because what she has said has kind of got to the heart of a great deal of speculation and interest. that's exactly what was inside
2:02 pm
of that safe that was taken from the billings' home. the attorney says there was jewelry, family heirlooms, documents, and children's medications. doesn't sound like anything that you would think that a group of robbers would want to take out of the home. so their hope is that that would cut down on the speculation and the interest as to what was going on with byrd and melanie billings. of course, this investigation has gone off in many different directions and a lot of that based on authorities here saying that the dea had been called in to investigate as well, to assist in this investigation. family members of the billings and that attorney very sensitive to that fact. they're worried it was putting the billings family in a bad light. so that's really why you see this attorney coming out and saying the contents of that safe. but also that comes to the great dismay of sheriff's investigators and prosecutors who had spent a great deal of yesterday making sure that they kept the contents of that safe
2:03 pm
under wraps and close to the vest. >> well, and anybody who hears it, makes you wonder if that safe was in the possession of any of these suspects that maybe something else was in it that was taken out. we don't know that obviously, and only time will tell if that becomes available. but, you know, yesterday the sheriff's office was saying we pretty much wrapped up our investigation. so does that mean that no more arrests are imminent? >> reporter: well, let me get quick back to the safe. we do know that investigators are telling us that that safe was recovered at the property of that eighth person that was arrested, pamela long wiggins. we've been told by officials here at the sheriff's office that so far it does not appear that that safe was opened before hand. but beyond that they really haven't said much beyond that. as far as other arrests are concerned, authorities are telling us that there are still two or three other people of interest that they want to speak with and that we could expect perhaps another arrest sometime next week. so even though they say the bulk
2:04 pm
of their investigation has come to an end, authorities here say they're tying up loose ends and clearly more investigative work continues to occur. >> boy, it just leaves you shaking your head, doesn't it? you're down there covering it. the sheriff said it was a humdinger from day one. it just seems to keep going on. thank you for keeping us posted. we appreciate it. >> thanks, christi. >> sure. another story we're really watching today, six people dead, at least, from bomb blasts that hit two luxury hotels in jakarta, indonesia. this is video from inside the jw marriott that was hit. the unidentified man circled there walking through the hotel lobby with a suitcase is raising suspicions. seconds later a bomb goes off. investigators say suicide bombers checked in as guests before carrying out the coordinated attacks. the question is who was this man? was he an innocent bystander or
2:05 pm
was he a bomber? more than 50 people were wounded, including eight americans. the blast happened almost simultaneously at the marriott and the ritz-carlton. an unexploded bomb was also found on the 18th floor of a hotel. it's unclear what group was behind the attack. i-report greg wollstencraft was on the scene right after. >> there was a huge explosion, and i looked out the window and the first explosion was actually at the marriott. there was a big plume of black and brown smoke. i actually because i work for one of the local television networks on tv, i run downstairs with my phone just to see what it was all about. as i got down to the ground floor, there was another huge explosion at the ritz-carlton. when i got over there, there was smoke billowing out of the building all over the place and all the windows were blown out
2:06 pm
on the street side quite extensively with smoke and there was already some people starting to move outside, and i went up the driveway towards the lobby and all the windows were blown out on the lobby side as well. i was able to go into the restaurant and have a look around and having stayed in that hotel many times, there was just total devastation. you couldn't even recognize it from what it was before, and i did see one mutilated body on the floor which could have actually been one of the suicide bombers. and i did see some other people getting escorted out with minor injuries. >> our thanks to greg wollstencraft there. all of our i-reporters, thank you so much. if you have pictures or video of breaking news or cool stories from your part of the world, please go to ireport.com and click on the up load now link and thanks for sharing. happening right now, emergency crews on the scene of a train derailment. this is in montgomery, alabama.
2:07 pm
now, police spokesman says a dump truck collided with a slow-moving train. the locomotive and two freight stars actually went off the tracks. according to the police the truck driver didn't stop to cross the truck and has minor injuries. the two people on board the train weren't hurt. officials say no hazardous materials were spilled, which is good news there, too. space shuttle "endeavour" and the international space station are now docked. "endeavour" will stay at the space station for 1 1/2 weeks here. the seven-member crew is delivering the last piece of japan's space station lab to the iss. just before linking up the shuttle did a back flip so the space station crew could photograph the "endeavour" to check for damage. remember, some of the shuttle's thermal tiles were hit by foam during liftoff on wednesday. new information for you in the case of a surgical technician accused of putting patients at risk. kristin diane parker has hepatitis c. she's accused of swapping clean needles for dirty ones to feed

2:09 pm
the california department of health says this is the second fine for kaiser permanente's bell flower hospital. in may it had to pay $250,000 because employees looked at suleman's medical information. an official said an investigation found eight employees looked at four of the babies' records. pope benedict will be wearing a cast on his arm for about a month. apparently he fell and broke his right wrist. the vatican sis the 82-year-old pope was on vacation when this accident happened. he celebrated mass and had breakfast before heading to the hospital before having that bone reset there. oh, your teenager's texting habit could cause injuries. have you yet heard about texting tendinitis?

a federal judge has dismissed a civil lawsuit against him. the securities and exchange commission had accused cuban of dumping his shares in 2004. the s.e.c. said cuban avoided a $750,000 loss by selling the shares after getting confidential information about a private offering. cuban's lawyer argued the nba team owner wasn't legally an insider. so a car dealer believes he knows how to drive up sales. starting next month the owner of a dealership in butler, missouri, is giving free ak-47s to anyone who buys one of his pickup trucks. actually, you get a voucher to take to the gun store i should point out. mark muller says he has a motto. quote, god, guns, guts, and american pickup trucks. he says everyone who works for him has carry and concealed permits. >> we're country folks down here. we live down here. and we're real firm believers in the second amendment and we don't want to become victims. i live out in the country 15

president obama said his urged teachers, parents, and students to do more. >> they might think they have a pretty good jump shot or a pretty good float, but our kids can't all aspire to be lebron or lil wayne. i want them aspiring to be scientists an engineers, doctors and teachers. not just ballers and rappers. i want them aspiring to be a supreme court justice. i want them aspiring to be the president of the united states of america. >> president obama says he's working to remove what he called structural inequalities left behind by a legacy of discrimination. the naacp is celebrating its 100th anniversary which was the occasion for which he was speaking. we want to know your views. do you think that there is still a need for the naacp? 1-877-tell-hln is the number to call. we'd love to hear from you.

2:36 pm
i think one of the reasons may be the economy, and a lot of the deterioration or some of it is with independent voters. >> compare for me, if you will, just so we have some perspective, how these numbers stack up to other presidents at this same point in their administration. >> exactly. our polling director put this together. take a look. six months into a presidency, you can see george w. bush back in 2001 was also at 57%. bill clinton back in '93 was was only at 48%. the senior george bush was at 66%, and ronald reagan back in july of 1981 was at 60%. so barack obama is kind of right in the middle there, christi. >> all right. very interesting to see those numbers. paul steinhauser, always good to see you. thank you so much. >> thank you. well, for some drug addicts feeding their addiction is as easy as calling a dentist. >> the moment somebody hangs up the phone on me, i know they're literally going down the book.

the astronaut is putting it on the moon, but it doesn't really move after that. so, again, christi, a lot of therorrists, a lot of critics out there, but some people say it would have been impossible to keep this thing a secret for the tens of thousands of nasa employees that were working on that launch in the first place. it's hard for people to keep mum about a secret like that. >> i would think so, and i'm so curious to know, you know, what aldrin and armstrong would say about it as well. >> they take on their critics, yeah. >> yeah. i know we need to move on to another real popular story today. first lady michelle obama's family history. >> we haven exclusive look at the rice plantation actually, christi, in georgetown, south carolina, where her great great grandfather jim robinson worked as a slave. it's called friend field plantation. about 350 slaves worked there in hot, humid, mosquito-filled
