language. one picture shows him shaking hands with a message saying one of our men is missing. return the soldier to his home. the other one said if you don't release the soldier then you will be hunted. in a statement his family asks friend and family members to, quo, please continue to keep bowe in your thoughts and prayers. a russian civilian plane crashed in afghanistan today. it is the third major accident this weekend involving aircraft in the combat zone. it comes as violence escalates there. ivan is in afghanistan. >> reporter: they are not releasing the nationality of the passengers, but none of the passengers or crew were military personnel. they are also saying that this was not a result of any kind of

hostile fire. there will be an investigation into this. this is the third crash in the last two days. earlier today there was also a hard landing, an emergency landing by a u.s. military helicopter in eastern afghanistan and we are told the passengers and crew were being treated for injuries. we don't have further injuries on that except there was not hostile fire. yesterday, we had an 5-15, f-15 war plane that crashed in the predawn hours with two crew members killed, so a difficult day for aviation. despite that, we traveled with marine helicopters and i believe we have video to know you, we traveled around held hellman province. i traveled with 10,000 marines that have moved into the area. 4,000 launched an offense i have

earlier this month moving into the area that the taliban soldiers had control. during the trip, we stopped at several bases and it was very clear -- i was in the same last year, the small operating bases have tripled in side. the base that i'm at right now has perhaps a couple hundred british soldiers and marine. now it has 2,000 personnel, a sign that the u.s. and the nato allies are watching up efforts here trying to reach out and extend the afghan government's authority in the very contested ream where drugs are produced in massive quantities and this ahead of the august 20th presidential elections scheduled to be taking place then. >> ivan watson reporting from camp dwyer in afghanistan. 50 coalition troops died this month, the highest of any month since the 2001 invasion. investigators are trying to figure out what caused a train

trash in san francisco. dozens of people were injured when a train slammed into another at a boarding plat tomorrow here. three people are hospitalized in serious condition. a transit system spokesman says investigators are looking into mechanical and human errors. one witness says the train operator was not looking where he was going. >> he came barreling in, not slowing down, the driver's head was down, he looked like he was asleep or passed out or -- i couldn't tell, but he was not looking up or slowing down or braking. no signals, nothing. i could tell we were not going to stop and we crashed into the rear of the train. >> this is the third serious crash on u.s. transit systems since may. the other two were in boston and washington, d.c. a 30-year-old man is in custody in connection with the killings of six people in two states. jacob shafer was iowa state

arrested yesterday. five people were found at two homes in fayettesville, tennessee. another body was found in huntsville, alabama. one of the victims was the suspect's wife. a family friend says the couple's relationship was shaky. >> i knew she was having problems with him and she was already having her personal problems to deal. with she kind of had a hard time in life, but she was a very kind-hearted person and definitely loved her children and her family and was the typical concerned mom. >> the police have not released any names of the victims. the killings were connected to a domestic dispute and some of the killings were related. the fbi has caught up with one of the most wanted. the suspect was arrested friday night in mexico. he spent nine years on the run. he is wanted for the 2000 shooting of a los angeles deputy

during a traffic stop. the deputy was severe lid wounded in the face. he has since recovered. several million dollars of artwork have been lost in a home in michigan. the man and his wife es open cad escaped, but the mansion was overtaken with fire in five hours. about 100 people are homeless after a fire destroyed 24 condo units in dallas. it took firefighters hours to get the flames under control. two people, including a child, were taken into the hospital for smoke and inhalation. >> she just started knocking on people's door and we came out of the building. >> investigators don't think the fire was deliberately set. this is the third major apartment fire to hit dallas in just four days.

president obama is still trying to pass health care reform and to do it immediately. a new report from the budget congressional office says a plan now emerging from the house could add to the deficit. the president promises he won't sign any bill that increases the federal deficit, which could mean some new taxes. >> first, we need to get this done because it has not been done in 50 years. we can't go on with not only such rapidly rising costs but

individuals facing constraints on pre-existing conditions and difficulty obtaining insurance what have you. it needs to be deficit neutral, and in the short run, additional revenue is going to be required. >> reporter: the republican leader in the senate says the united states has the best health care system in the world. kentucky's mitch mcconnell says there's no need to give eight complete overall. >> this is the same kind of where you shall and spend strategy we saw on the stimulus bill. we are going to have a deficit this year, $1.8 trillion. bigger that the gaps of the last five years combined. they pushed a budget to put us on the path to triple it in ten and here comes health care on top of it. >> president obama will hold a primetime news conference on wednesday and he is expected to talk about health care. the next day he heads to ohio where he's going to continue his
