nationwide tour to urge kids to avoid dog fighting. on his first stop in the atlanta area, much of his targeted audience was shut out. thanks for joining us. i'm natasha curry in today for susan hendricks. our top story, the search is scheduled to resume this morning for the victims of a midair collision here in new york. a small plane collideed with a helicopter yesterday and both fell right spot hudson river. new york mayor michael bloomberg said it is believed that all nine people from the aircraft, both of them, were killed. a source close to the investigation tells us that four bodies have been recovered so far. now, this is how one witness described the crash. >> there was a plane, a small plane like a cessna cutting back towards new jersey side, helicopter heading southbound about 1100, 1200 feet. the plane rolled spot helicopter, hit the side of it. the helicopter went straight down the water.

there was a poof of smoke and a bang. the plane hit and went down by the hotel, came down in a couple of pieces. >> a law enforcement source tells us the chopper wreckage was found in about 30 feet of water while the plane is believed to be even deeper. sonar has also identified a third debris field. >> we know the hudson river is an extremely difficult river to dive in. currents are very difficult. you have to contend with tides and the ability to see is very limited. two to three feet at most. very much concerned about diver safety. >> on the plane, the pilot, his brother and nephew. the chopper, five tourists and a pilot. stay tuned to hln for the latest on the search throughout the day.

several inmates have not been injured in a prison riot. violence broke out at the institution for men in encino. it was set on fire. inmates self-evacuated into a yard. still wasn't clear whether all of them made it out of the building. >> i just ask everybody to be as curt reduce and civil to everybody else as possible. >> reporter: congre-- congressional vacation is anything but relaxes, town halls are turning into screaming matches as health care reform are shouting down legislators. a protest here outside democratic congressman harry mitchell's office in scottsdale. traditionally town hall meetings have been fairly sedate affairs of the recent health care debate is changing that.

our affiliate kcci in des moines tells us about a meeting held last night by iowa senator tom harkin. >> it reads like mongolia that was thought up in the early 1930s in germany. >> reporter: people from both sides of the health care debate packed a room at the des moines health care center to here senator harkin talk about health care. the angriest ones were the loudest. >> how dare you -- >> the senator tried answering questions and concerns, but it wasn't easy thanks to the lively crowd that spilled into the hallway. >> i think he heard me, yeah. i think he heard there's a lot of people out here angry that congress proposes bills, doesn't read them. and then when the people out here read them, congress gets angry that we're reading the bill. >> denise groves has experience in nursing and went to the meeting to get more information on health care. >> i didn't really think i was going to get up and talk but i

really get tired of listening to them. >> she says the opposition should have come up with more ideas than complaints. >> i would like to ask these people what solution do you have? >> i feel a lot of these people that are here have no clue other than making comments that, you know, sure, they are going to be afraid. people's lifestyles are going to change. >> a lot of that fear is being stoked by those who don't want to change the system. >> even though tempers flared, senator harkin said the meeting went well and that people have legitimate questions. >> i think when people get the right information, and they missouri what we're trying to do and how this is going to all wash out, i'm not saying 100% of the american people before, but the vast amount of the american people will see this as a guide goode things to change the system we have. >> that was kcci in did he maui,

authorities in hawaii are beginning to close beaches on the big island as hurricane felicia approaches. forecasters are predicting heavy rain and possible flash floods. reynolds wolf will have the latest details on felicia just ahead in weather. a typhoon is lashing parts of china. a million people evacuated in the country's eastern areas ahead of the storm's arrival. look at the pictures. yesterday it passed over causing the worst flooding in 20 years. they are blaming the storm for 20 deaths. police in one community are trying toting folks to drop their guns and hold out their hands. >> not a bad trade for some old unsafe guns. >> see what authorities are using to get people to give away their guns.

police in fresno, california are using a new approach to get guns off the streets.

the idea here is to get people to hand over guns voluntarily and then go on a shopping spree. as john thomas kovos reports, it's working better than anyone expected. >> reporter: rugers, lugers, rifles and even a tommy gun. some may be used for sport but some have been used for crimes. fresno police collected this weapons cache during the first event. >> these are firearms used for drive by shootings, in the hands of the wrong people. >> reporter: a wide range of people showed up saturday morning all guaranteed amnesty. >> doesn't matter if you're getting gang bangers, you're getting guns off the street. >> we're about to move to the old folks home. i don't think they would want them there. >> reporter: this was like

a blind man says an overnight trip to the emergency room turned into an eye-opener. he returned home with his sight.

he had called 911 after feeling dizzy, still isn't clear, though, how exactly he regained his sight. he had been legally blind for several years and could only see a foot or so away. >> the camera man, i'd have to be 12 inches from him. now i see your face and you're a good looking gal. i see everything, the car here, building here. >> marty is so overjoyed he says he hasn't slept much lately. he's enjoying his newfound independence and eyeing the ladies. he says he's looking for a nice gal no younger than 75. the kennedy family continues to gather at a massachusetts hospital where eunice kennedy shriver is listed in critical but stable condition. it's still unclear why she went to the hospital. shriver had a series of strokes in recent years. she's best known as the founder

of the special olympics which helps millions of people with disabilities worldwide. her daughter, maria shriver and maria's husband, arnold schwarzenegger, have also been at the hospital. police are getting new clues about the murder of a couple known for adopting special needs kids. they are coming from a man arrested last week. sean callebs reports investigators are looking at business debt and connections to the mexican mafia. >> reporter: 61-year-old henry "cab" tice was a long time friend and business associate of byrd and melanie billings according to the escambia county sheriff david morgan. >> they were business partners in a series of businesses, in a finance company that financed cars and other things and a couple of car dearly ships. >> reporter: the relationship soured. tice owed billings and was arrested or writing bad checks to the billings. the sheriff also says he's not

ruling out that the billings murders could be a contract hit. another in freaking connection, tice was close to patrick gonzalez jr., the man authorities portray as the ringleader in the killing of the florida couple that adopted children with special needs. >> he's had an ongoing relationship, he described it as a father and son relationship where they spoke on a daily business. >> reporter: the sheriff says he's surprised by information volunteered like connection to organized crime. >> he affirmed that because he got into financial trouble in the business and he needed some money that he made connections with what he referred to as the mexican mafia and secured a loan from them in order for the business not to fail. >> reporter: cnn was unable to locate tice but in an interview with nbc, he said he had nothing to do with the killing. >> anybody say that i had anything to do with the murder of bud or melanie is a liar.

>> reporter: the billings family issued a statement saying we have faith sheriff morgan will be diligent in determining whether there's any connection with cab tice and the murders. the big break in the case came when someone involved with the murder failed to turn off the security system. cameras rolled as the gang roamed the house and caught images of the suspects and a red van leaving the house. >> it would not be unrealistic to assume that mr. tice was aware of a security system. he had been in the home many times. will at the office mr. billings was known to pull up on his security system his home system so he could observe the children and how the home life is going. >> tice had been working at this car dealership and apparently living there as well. he's been fired and told to move on. he frequently goes to mexico for business dealings and also travels to columbia where he has a wife or a girlfriend.

nagasaki. in a speech the mayor called for a global ban on nuclear arms. he said without it the world could once again suffer destruction like that of hiroshima and nagasaki. as a quick check of sunday headlines on hln i'm natasha curry in for susan hendricks. more on our top story. investigate are trying to figure out how a small plane collided midair with a tourist helicopter sending them plunging into the hudson river. susan candiotti has more. >> reporter: as the sun set divers who could barely see in the waters of the hudson promised to return to work sunday morning painstakingly looking for victims and wreckage in the water. >> the ability to see is very limited, two to three feet at most. >> reporter: on a bright, sunny day, it was hard to understand why a small plane and sightseeing helicopter should collide over the hudson river. the small plane with one pilot and two passengers including a child took off from new jersey's

police in fresno, california, have a new approach for getting guns off the streets. they ask people to hand over their guns unanimously and get gift cards in return. they tried it for the first time yesterday and it actually worked. the turnout was so huge police ran out of cars in less than three hours. they collected nearly 450 guns in return for $35,000 worth of gift cards. >> these are firearms that are being used on the streets of fresno to do drive-by shootings in the hands of the wrong people. >> doesn't matter whether you are getting gang bangers hurt or not, you're getting guns off the street. >> a second event like this one is already being planned. your canine companion may be

a blind man says an overnight trip to the emergency room turned into a real eye opener. the 92 year old returned home with his sight. he called 911 after feeling diz dizzy. it isn't clear how he regained his sight. he had been legally blind for several years and could only see a foot or so ahead. >> i would have to be about 12 inches from the cameraman before he was clear. now i see your face. you're a good looking girl. i see everything. i see a car there. the building here. the tree there. >> marty is so overjoyed he hasn't slept much lately and enjoying the new found independence and eyeing the ladies. he's looking for a nice gal. no younger than 75.

police are getting new clues about the murder of a couple known for adopting special needs kids. they're coming from a man who was arrested last week. as sean callebs reports, investigators are looking at business debt and possible connections to the mexican mafia. >> reporter: 61-year-old henry cab tice was a longtime friend and business associate of byrd and melanie billings according to sheriff morgan. >> they were business partners in a series of businesses both in a finance company which financed cars and other things and of course in a couple small car dealerships. >> reporter: however, the relationship soured. tice owed billings $30,000 and he was arrested thursday on a year old charge of writing more than $17,000 in bad checks to the billings. the sheriff also says he's not ruling out the billings' murders could be a contract hit. another intriguing connection, tice according to the sheriff was also close to 35-year-old

patrick gonzalez jr., the man authority portrays as the ring leader in the murder of the florida couple who adopted 13 children, many with special needs. >> he's had an ongoing relationship with patrick gonzalez jr. he described it as a father and son relationship. they spoke on a daily basis. >> reporter: the sheriff says he's surprised by information tice volunteered like a connection to organized crime. >> he affirmed that because he got into financial trouble in the business and he needed some money, that he made connections with what he referred to as the mexican mafia and secured a loan from them in order for the business not to fail. >> reporter: cnn was unable to locate tice but in an interview with nbc, he said he had nothing to do with the killings. >> that anybody would say i had anything to do with the murder of byrd or melanie is a lie. >> reporter: the billings family issued a statement saying we have faith that sheriff morgan will be diligent in determining if there's any connection

can you bank on sunshine for the rest of your weekend forecast? let's check in with meteorologist reynolds wolf, but first let's check in with him about felicia and the hurricane. a lot of people are still worried about flooding. >> this storm is going to produce quite a bit of surf and of course the rain you were talking about. here's the good knnews, though, about the storm. it's begun to weaken considerably. just over a few hours ago it was a powerhouse of a storm. we're still seeing convention, but as time goes on we anticipate it will be moving into much cooler water and as it drives its way toward the easement it will be moving into cooler water and upper level sheers will begin to rip this thing apart. as a it begins to make landfall it could bring at least a depression or a weak tropical storm. so rain is certainly going to be in the mix for them. anything else we're going to see, storms across parts of the midwest and great lakes today.

called for a global ban on nuclear arms. he said without it, the world could once again suffer the destruction like that of hiroshima and nagasaki. and as a quick check of your sunday morning headlines here on hln, i'm natasha curry in for susan hendrix. more on our top stories. investigators are trying to figure out how a small plane collided in midair with a tourist helicopter sending both plunging into the hudson river. susan candiotti has more from the scene of the accident. >> reporter: as the sun set, divers who could barely see in the murky waters of the hudson, promised to resume work in the morning, painstakingly looking for victims and wreckage in up to 50 feet of water. >> the ability to see is very limited, two to three feet at most. >> reporter: on a bright sunny day it was hard to unwhy a small plane and sightseeing helicopter should collide over the hudson river. the small plane with one pilot and two passengers, including a child, took off from new jersey's teterboro airport and

turned south over the hudson. at the same time five italians took off in a small helicopter. there was a helicopter heading southbound about 1100, 12 hup feet. the plane rolled into the helicopter, hit the side of it. the helicopter went straight down in the water. there was like a poof of smoke and a bang. the plane went down and hit the water. those waiting for their friends and family, they were stunned. they told me they have friends, not relatives but -- >> they're inside the water? >> yeah. but we don't know anything. we asked if they are alive. >> right. what do they say? >> nobody -- >> reporter: were they crying? >> no, no. they are very upset bus they're not crying. >> reporter: the ntsb says just before the accident another pilot on the ground saw the

sheriff morgan will be diligent in determining whether there is any connection between cab tice and the murders. authorities said the big break in the case came when someone involved in the murders failed to turn off the billings' security system. they caught images of the suspects and a red van leaving the house. >> it would be not be unrealistic to assume that mr. tice was aware of the security system. he had been in the home many times, also at the office mr. billings was known to pull up on his security system his home system so he could observe the children and how the home life was going. >> tice had been working at this car dealership and apparently living there as well. tice has since been fired and told to move on. tice frequently goes to mexico for business dealings, and he also travels to the country of columbia where he has a wife or girlfriend. while he remains free on bond, the sheriff has told tice not to leave this area.

area, much of his target audience was shut out. thanks for joining us here on hln. i'm natasha curry in today for susan hendricks. our top story, the search for victims in a midair collision in new york is scheduled to resume this morning. a small plane collided with a helicopter yesterday. both aircrafts fell into the hudson river. new york mayor michael bloomberg says it is believed all the 19 people on both aircrafts were killed. a source close to the investigation tells us that three bodies have been recovered and another was located in the water. now, here's how witnesses describe the crash. >> there was a plane, small plane like a cessna, cutting back toward the jersey side and a helicopter heading southbound about 1100, 1200 feet. the plane rolled into the helicopter, hit the side of it. the helicopter went straight down the water. there was like a puff of smoke and a bang. the plane went down and hit water by the hotel.

it came down in a couple pieces. pretty bad. >> what did you think when you saw it? >> tragic, sad. the fact it happened here. you look up and see all the planes, so i'm surprised -- this thing happens, but, you know, the fact that it does happen -- it doesn't happen more often is mazing. >> it was turning, and the head went down first, and about three or four seconds later, i saw the wind of the helicopter, but there's no wind for helicopters, probably the rotor blades. so if this is the head, i think it went down like this. so it was quick. i see a lot of people come and start trying to rescue and lots of boats start to drive towards the helicopter. i was just very shocked. i think i was screaming for a few seconds and then two of us, we started calling 911.

>> a law enforcement source tells us that the chopper wreckage was found in about 30 feet of water while the plane is believed to be even deeper. sonar has also recognized a possible debris field. >> you know the hudson river is an extremely difficult river to dive in, currents are very difficult, you have to contend with tides and the ability to see is very limited. two to three feet at most. so it's a difficult working environment and we're very much concerned about diver safety. >> the victims on the plane were the driver, his father and nephew. more news about the search throughout the day. 40 inmates are in the hospital following a prison riot here in california. a spokesman says some of the injuries are life threatening.

audience was shut out. thanks for joining us here on hln on your sunday morning here. i'm natasha curry in today for susan hendricks. our top story, a search for victims in a midair collision in new york is scheduled to resume this morning. a small plane collided with a helicopter yesterday. both aircraft fell into the hudson river. michael bloomberg says it is believed all 19 people on both aircrafts were killed. a source close to the investigation tells us that three bodies have been recovered and another was located in the water. now, here's how witnesses describe the crash. >> there was a plane, small plane like a cessna, cutting back towards the jersey side, a helicopter heading southbound about 1100, 1200 feet. the plane rolled into the helicopter, hit the side of it. the helicopter went straight down to the water. there was like a puff of mosmok and a bang and the plane came

police in fresno, california have a new approach for getting guns off the street. they ask people to hand over their guns anonymously and get gift cards in return. they tried it for the first tichl yesterday and it actually worked. the turnout was so huge, police ran out of cards in less than three hours. they collected nearly 450 guns in return for $35,000 worth of gift cards. >> these are firearms that are being used on the streets of fresno to do drive-by shootings. they're in the hands of the wrong people. >> it doesn't matter in you're getting gang bangers in here or not, you're getting guns off the street. >> they're already planning another event like this one.

targeted audience was shut out. hi there, thanks for joining us on hln this sunday morning, i'm natasha curry in today for susan hendricks. a fourth body was recovered this morning as the search for victims in a midair collision in new york continues. a small plane collided with a helicopter yesterday, both fell into the hudson river here. new york mayor michael bloomberg says it's believed all of the nine people on both aircraft were killed. here's how witnesses describe the crash. >> there was a plane, small plane like a cessna cutting back towards the jersey side, the helicopter heading southbound about 1,100 to 1,200 feet. the plane rolled into the helicopter, hit the side of it, the helicopter went straight down the water. there was a poof of smoke and then a bang and then the plane went further down, hit the water over by the hotel and came down in a couple of pieces. pretty bad. >> what was your thought? >> tragic, bad. the fact that it happened here.

but you look up and see all of the planes going around here, it's kind of hectic. surprised it doesn't -- unfortunately, you know, this thing happens. but, you know, the fact that it does happen, it doesn't happen more often is kind of crazy. >> i was turning and then the head went down first. and then about three or four seconds later i thought it was a wing of the helicopter, but there's no wing so it was probably the blades. >> what did it look like? >> so if this is the head, i think it went down like this. so it was quick. i see a lot of people come and start trying to rescue and then lots of boats start to drive towards the helicopter. i was just very shocked. i think i was screaming for a few seconds. and then two of us started calling 911. a law enforcement source tells us that the chopper wreckage was found in about 30 feet of water while the plane is believed to be even deeper.

police in fresno, california are using a new approach to get guns off the street. the idea here is to get people to hand over guns voluntarily and then go on a shopping spree. and as john thomas from kfsn reports it's working better than anyone expected. >> reporter: rifles and even a tommy gun. some may be used for sport, but some of these weapons could be used to commit crimes. fresno police collected this weapons cash during the department's first cash for guns even event. >> these are firearms used on the streets of fresno to do drive by shootings. >> reporter: a wide range of people showed up saturday morning all guaranteed amnesty. >> it doesn't matter if you're getting gang bangers in here or not, you're getting guns off the
