we know that he took the boat across the peninsula. we know that he was spotted in that marina and they are saying that they know that he's in canada. but this is the first i've heard about the -- >> that's incredible. >> the orange county district attorney's office, have you ever heard of someone managing to outrun the coast guard in a high-speed boat chase? >> no, i have not. that's, of course, very unusual. and he has abandoned his boat and got it to shore and he fled on foot after that and hasn't been seen since. this is a very unusual case but, you know, he'll turn up and we'll get him pretty soon. >> you're seeing now at the canadian border, explain to me how he did it. >> how he took off? you're talking about the time line? >> yes. >> basically, they went to san

diego thursday night, supposedly checked into this upscale reports. there are reports that they had a pretty good blow-out fight that night at the hilton. he checked out the next morning. >> a fight over what? >> my understanding, from the reports i'm seeing, is that he is just very jealous and it has to do with other men. but basically the report i saw said they went back to the hotel, continued the argument. and then the next morning he took off. friday he filed a missing person's report on saturday night. he said the last time he had seen her was friday afternoon when she dropped him off at his apartment in l.a. on saturday night he goes in to file the missing person's report and disappears. but the body was found saturday morning but obviously they couldn't identify it because of the teeth and fingers missing. >> that's in direct

thorough investigation to figure out if he's here. >> have you received tips from the public? >> we have received a relative number of tips from the public. there's been media attention and we get calls when people think that they see someone that looks like him. there's been nothing that corroborates that he's here at this time. >> sergeant, i understand that he has a pilot's license. how do you prevent him from going to an fbo, a fixed base operator, a private air strip, and taking off? because there is very little safeguards. you don't even have to show ids to hop on one of those plans. >> absolutely. that's one of the things we're trying to do is being very proactive with the media to get all of the information out there so we can dose policing where the community can assist us in look forge a pirn. >> sergeant, where does he get

his pilot's license? because i'm wonder fg he wouldn't try to go back somewhere else familiar to escape the country. >> that's a good point, nancy. certainly we have a bunch of things that we're doing on our investigation. we have a lot of people on the ground working on things. at this point, obviously, we don't want to fairly tip our hands at where we are looking or how we are looking because we don't want the information to get back to the wrong people. >> what type of operation are you -- do you have in place to try to locate him? >> the royal canadian mounted police has a command post here in the lower mainland of the vancouver area. we've disseminated the area to all of the surrounding attachments and police forces. we've partnered up for the canada border service agencies. and we've worked very closely with the u.s. marshals. so we have an extensive network right now and we have, based on information provided by the u.s. authorities, i can tell thaw

there is now a provisional arrest warrant here in canada. >> what is a provisional arrest warrant? what is that? >> that's the warrant that would signal the start of an extradition process. there's been an extradition process where the canadian courts would rule whether or not he's been extradited. >> right now, i'm being joined by carolyn jarvis with the global national report, from cnn affiliate news, she's there at the point roberts border crossing. thank you for being with us. >> thanks, nancy. >> whal can you tell me, was there an alert there posted there at the border crossing where we believe he entered

there have been cases fs that pushed to the absolute limits. god forbid a child is be a ducted and is still alive and these are very strict key hypotheticals. >> is that correct? >> absolutely. there are some incidents where it's been pushed but i would agree with gloria where it's attorney-client privilege. ip don't think you can go to the authorities and say, this is where my client is. >> and now cnn heroes. >> i've been unemployed and basically have no income. >> and they told me, i have breast cancer. and i did not have insurance. so i came here. >> if they have no insurance and they have no money, what's going to happen to them? in 2003 i discovered that i had kidney cancer. i'm a nurse practitioner. but i had no health insurance. i was able to mort ganl my house
