they want smaller class sizes but the school district says classrooms are not overcrowded. good morning. as you get ready to down your oatmeal, 30 minutes past the hour. i'm robin meade. welcome. more on the top story, the apparent murder of yale grad student annie le. we know she was last seen on university surveillance video. correspondent richard lui, have police found anything else on those tapes? >> yeah. they are really looking at them. there are more than 70 cameras focusing on the outside of that building and nearby garage. you can imagine the tape they go through. the only time police spotted le was when she arrived at the lab around 10:00 a.m. last tuesday. a fire alarm also went off that same day which sent people streaming out of the building. it's possible her killer was concealed by the crowd. >> i think this news would have students and faculty worried about their safety. we're learning that annie le wrote an article about crime on

campus. >> she did. it was published in the medical school's magazine. she interviewed people on tips to stay safe. >> richard, thank you. the health care debate moving toward a compromise. top senators on both sides of the argument now say that a house health care bill drafted by democrats and strongly opposed by republicans is dead. the focus is on a compromise being work eed on in the senate. president obama is sure that the congress will pass a good health care bill but the buck stops with him. >> i intend to be president for a while and once this bill passes, i own it. if people look and say, you know what, this hasn't reduced my costs, my premiums are going up 25%, insurance companies are still jerking me around, i'm the

westhoven is here. take us back. >> thank you, robin. it was a year ago that lehman brothers collapsed. nothing like that had really ever happened. there was so much concern about how that would ripple out across the world financial system. we went into a freefall of confidence. credit froze up. today, one year later, president obama will make a major speech on the financial feltdown from the heart of wall street. last night on cbs's "60 minutes." >> when i walked in, the banking system, the financial system was on the version of collapse. and what have i done? i've essentially taken the program that was voted on by the previous congress, supported by the previous republican president, and we've made it work. >> he's also expected to talk about the next steps, an exit strategy, meaning getting the government out of the markets and corporate america. and he'll argue that the congress needs to make stronger rules to make sure this never

yesterday. instead, police have found a body that they now think is 24-year-old annie le. investigators are doing tests, trying to positively id her. correspondent richard lieu, the investigation had gone from a missing persons case to a homicide now. so what is next for the police? >> yeah, you know what they're doing right now, focusing on some clothes that are bloodstained that they had found there on the location. officers finding it hidden in the ceiling tiles where le was last seen alive. they're not the same clothes she was wearing in surveillance video. police are testing the clothes. it's possible the clothes aren't linked to the case at all. it's one piece at this moment. >> there was also a lot of police activity at a trash facility. what are they looking for there? >> the fbi is saying it's routine here to follow the trash. it's in hartford, connecticut, where all the trash from the yale lab usually goes. it's possible the evidence could be destroyed.

police near chicago want to know if drugs had something to do with a possible suicide of a top aide to former illinois governor rob blagojevich. it could take weeks before a toxicology report is finished. christopher kelly was found friday night slumped in his car. police say drugs were also inside the car. kelly was just days away from going to jail on tax fraud charges. police in kansas searched two days for a wanted fugitive. they found him thanks to a pair of newlyweds, a blanket and some pillows. new for you in about 30 minutes.

the body of a young woman believed to be missing yale student annie le has been found. the remains were discovered in a wall at the medical building where she worked. they've not been identified, but police assume that they are hers and they're calling it a homicide. four u.s. troops were killed in afghanistan over the weekend. nato says two service members died when their patrol hit a roadside bomb in the wardak province. two more service members died in a gun battle that lasted six hours in the farah province. thousands of students in washington state could be going back to school tomorrow. teachers have been on strike for the past two weeks. a union official said teachers will vote on a tentative deal

breaking news this morning. three men convicted of plotting to blow up planes flying from london to north america have now been given life sentences. now, the ring leader has to serve at least 40 years. they were responsible for the restrictions that only allow you to carry small amounts of liquid on a plane. british security say it was an al qaeda scheme to sneak explosives on board in soft drink bottles and could have killed thousands. italy's coast guard came to the rescue of 42 people whose sailboat got stuck on some rocks. this is some of the video. three children and a man were pulled out of the water by helicopter. poor little child. the rest were rescued by boat. they were apparently trying to immigrate to italy from several

different countries. the so-called tea party express ended saturday with tens of thousand of people attending a rally in washington. >> can you hear me now? can you hear us now? >> the group opposes what it calls out of control government spending. particularly the proprosed health care overhaul. now, protesters carry signs reading "government is the problem" and "stop the spending." the group began a cross country bus tour in sacramento last month and held rallies in 30 cities. expect your next flight to be a little more crowded than usual. every seat's taken on the flights i'm on. where are they going to stick people? >> that's not going to really let up. maybe there used to be a couple of seats, like if you were in a really bad seat in the middle you could find a side seat somewhere. not likely. airline bosses still making cuts.

they've made some of the biggest cuts on the number of seats flying since right after 9/11. that's capacity. basically, it's recession. they can't afford to have empty seats right now. how you're really going to see it is fewer flights for you to choose from. normally it would also mean higher prices. but experts say they're not so sure about that. maybe fares will go up a little bit, but not by too much. at least not until the economy recovers. they say there's just not enough demand right now for them to really raise the ticket prices. i'll tell you what could become more expensive, though. a new set of tires. basically, the cheapest tires that are on the market are going off the market because of the big trade fight between the u.s. and china. the president slapped new tar f tariffs of up to 35%. the cheapest tires probably all but going to disappear for a little while. the big picture, too, besides just tires, there is a lot of fear that this is going to start basically a trade fight between

35,000 jobs by 2011. we don't know where those jobs will be. the majority in the u.s., whether they'll be spread out through the the world. this is the multinational company and we don't know the percentage of the workforce. it says it plans to cut costs by $1 million, so heads are rolling and the stock is rallying because it seems to be a cruel sort of twist of fate, but stocks often rally when companies take extreme measures to repair their finances. and unfortunately, in this case, many people will be suffering. we're also seeing the markets selling off a bit in the first few minutes of trading. a growing trade dispute between the u.s. and china. late friday, the u.s. administration raised tariffs on tires. what oftentimes you see then, there's retaliation and the

chinese have indicated they may do just that. a lot of the excitement here on wall street because president obama is coming. he's going to make a major address on the financial crisis one year after the collapse of lehman brothers. we expect the president to call for reform efforts and quick action. and finally, airline passengers, believe it or not, are getting to their destinations on time a little more than they were a year ago. the department of transportation says 78% of flights arrive on time in july. the most punk yul airline, hawaii airline. i think bob could tell us, probably 93% of the days in hawaii are sunny, clear. >> no problem. >> true. >> thank you so much.

this just in. we have a new clarification on a story we just told you about. eli lilly, had a story about them cutting their jobs. it is reducing its global workforce to 35,000 people by the end of 2011. we don't know yet exactly how many jobs will be cut, i'm not sure what led to the misunderstanding here. we had reported they were cutting 3500 jobs, but they're cutting down to 3,500.
