dna of a lab instructor to see if he is linked to the killing of grad student annie le. they questioned raymond clark last night. they searched his apartment. >> reporter: no one came to the door when eyewitness news cameras arrived. the man who lives in this company, number 1-a,is ray clark. he apparently lives here with his girlfriend. the manager of the apartment complex tells us no one has seen him since thursday. although undercover new haven detectives have been closely watching his apartment ever since yesterday. >> it's very nerve-racking because the detectives are here and our kids are her and they haven't told us anything that's going on here. >> reporter: while ray clark has not been officially named a suspect, he is a person of interest. he is listed in the yale directory as a lab technician for the animal resources center. it's believed some of the animals used for research are are kept in the basement of the

street annie le was working on, as a graduate student in pharmacology. after miss for five days le's body was found sunday in the baseme basement, hidden behind the wall. and the office where clark worked was very close to where le was doing her graduate work. while people here in middle town have noticed a police presence, they are shocked to hear that it may be connected to the yale murder. >> shocking. >> wow. >> yeah. just saw it on the news this morning. guy is right next door. >> our thanks to daniels of affiliate wsb for that report. the senate finance committee will take up a health care reform plan next week. that is by far the most modest proposal yet considered by congress. it would cost $856 billion over ten years.

chairman max balk cuucus holds hope. republican olympia snow of maine hopes to negotiate the plan and won't commit to supporting it. it will require every american to buy private health insurance. there's no government-run plan, though. it would be non-profit co-ops that could provide some coverage. the proposal for bids, insurance companies from dropping policyholder it is they get sick and it also includes protections for people with pre-existing medical conditions. baucus has tax credits for lower and middle income families to help pay for insurance and creates exchanges for small groups to compare plans when they shop for coverage. that's kind of a wrap-up for you. well, a fallout is growing over the congressman who shouted "you lie" during the president's speech to congress on health care. yesterday the house passed a resolution mostly along party lines, formally admonishing representative joe wilson.

facebook page. just search r richelle carey. if you want to text, send them to hlntv. standard text messages will apply. california authorities are back again searching the home of kidnapping suspect phillip garrido. they started searching yesterday for clues in the disappearance of two young girls who went missing in the late '80s. investigators suspect the search will take several days. garrido and his wife are already charged with kidnapping jay see dugard, keeping her captive for 18 years. jaycee's kidnapping had similarities to the disappearance op garrett in 1988 and the other in 1989. they were both abducted from cities less than 50 miles from antioch. and dugard and garrett, they pretty much look alike. you can see in the pictures.

not only that, a sketch of the suspect in garrett's abduction resembles pictures of phillip garrido at the time. there were also similarities in the get-away vehicle and the scar found on garrido's property. we'll keep you posted on that. a huge fire engulfed a multi-million dollar home in los angeles this morning. looks like an apartment complex. that's a house. fire officials say no one was hurt. the flames did not spread to any they bo neighboring properties. the fire has now been put out. no word on what caused it. we are getting word on a stabbing in a home in southern california. police say they suspect a mother stabbed her two young daughters and then herself. 911 call sent us aers to that home this morning. they found a woman and her two daughters, ages 3 and 5, all stabbed. they are all in the hospital now. police say one of the daughters

is in critical condition. injuries to the mother and the other girl are not considered life-threatening. an idaho woman said one minute she was walking, talking with her husband. the next minute she had a tree limb sticking out of her throat. the pictures are very difficult to see. last week newlywed was taking a scenic drive and all of a sudden a limb from a spruce tree came through the passenger window and impaled her neck. she doesn't know exactly what happened. she says she remembers a strange pressure on her neck and shoulder and the panic on her husband's face. >> i would say, i love you, but i couldn't hardly move my jaw because that tree was stuck and had my jaw stuck. i was praying all the way. take my baby from me. she was just beautiful i was just thankful she was alive.

ohio authorities spent two hours trying to give a death row inmate a lethal injection but his veins kept collapsing. we told you that yesterday. well, now, the governor of ohio has called off the execution for at least a week. he was convicted of raping and murdering a 14-year-old girl in 1988. one death penalty scholar says the problem surrounding his execution open the door to a legal challenge that could complicate things even more. police are looking for a brazen drugstore bandit. it shows him walking into a walgreens in clear water, florida, monday. police say he jumped the pharmacy counter and pistol whipped a pregnant pharmacist. he stole a lot of pain medication before he ran out and other employees didn't even realize this robbery was going on. one guy got himself arrested after he decided to take a ride on his motorcycle. not a problem. he didn't have any clothes on. police pulled him over in marion county, florida, yesterday. he said the last thing he

california. this is why. it is a scene of a bloody stabbing. police say a mother is suspected of stabbing her two young daughters, and then herself in what they say was a murder suicide attempt. these little girls are 3 and 5. the 5-year-old girl is in critical condition. police say the mother and the younger daughter who was stabbed several times are expected to survive. a georgia man is charged with punching and kicking a female army reservist outside a cracker barrel restaurant while her little girl looked on in terror. 47-year-old troy west beat up hill just because she told him to be careful. apparently he almost hit her 7-year-old daughter while he opened the doors to the restaurant. police say west forced her to the ground and kicked her in the head while yelling racial slurs. >> it's clearly a shocking incident, to where a man that's twice the size of this female

a man spent the night in police custody after being questioned about the death of student annie le. a woman takes home an unwanted souvenir from a drive in the country. we'll show you pictures to prove it. it's hard to believe. forensic experts are testing the dna of a yale university lab technician to see if he might be linked to the killing of graduate student annie le. police questioned raymond clark iii last night and searched his connecticut apartment in middletown. he was released into the custody of his attorney about 3:00 in

2002 murder of a virginia man at a gas nation in nanassas. he and his accomplice shot 13 people in the d.c. area killing ten of them. they tried to put a man to death by injections but his veins kept collapsing. he was convicted of raping and killing a boy in 1984. the problem surrounding the execution opens the door to a legal challenge that could complicate things more. california authorities back searching the home of kidnapping suspect phillip garrido today. they began searching yesterday for clues into the disappearance of two young girls who went missing in the late '80s. investigators expect the search will take several days. garrido and his wife nancy are charged with kidnapping jaycee dugard and keeping her captive for 18 years. both have pleaded not guilty in the case.

police say jaycee dugard's 1991 kidnapping had a lot of similarities to the disappearance of michaela garecht in 1988 and ilene misheloff in 1989. both garecht and misheloff were abducted from cities less than 50 miles from antioch. not only that, a sketch of the suspect from garecht's abduction reveals pictures of phillip garrido at the time and similarities in the getaway vehicle in both garecht and misheloff's cases and a car found on garrido's property. a huge fire engulfed a multimillion dollar home in the hills overlooking los angeles this morning. fire officials say nobody was hurt. the homeowner said his priceless art collection is gone. his ferrari collection also damaged. flames didn't spread to any neighboring properties in the hollywood hills. the fire was put out but it's just rubble now. no word on a cause. the fallout growing for the

of interest. i hate that term. you are a suspect or not. >> what does your gut tell you? >> it looks like he was in handcuffs right there so he is in custody. they took a dna sample from him. some people are saying why did they release him. they basically said they knew where he was all the time they took over the case. it sounds to me like they have been focusing in on him. they are looking at other people to make sure there are not other suspects. the other day they believe this is not random act and no one else is in danger. if no one else is in danger, other suspects are out there. why did they take his dna? did they take anyone else's dna? not that we have heard of. >> how difficult is it to get that warrant to take someone's dna? >> it is basically a search warrant on a body. they are taking dank and other things, probably hair samples. we don't know and it hasn't been

mentioned, we don't know if she was sexually assaulted. these are things you have to consider. they may have taken dna from her body, wounds on him from her fighting him off. these are things they can compare. it could take a couple of days. compare the dna with what they found on her body, around her body. they found clothes on saturday, possible bloody clothes. were they connected to this guy or other people they are calling potential suspects? these are things they are looking at right now. the other thing, too, richelle, if he did kill her there, you have these bloody clothes and we know she was strangled, where was the crime scene? where did it happen? did he try to cover something up. working in the lab you have a lot of cleaning materials. when someone is strangled, other bodily fluids are expelled. did he try to clean these up.

police in cincinnati say gloria fowler was arrested and accused of spanking a 2-year-old boy in a salvation army store. she is facing an assault charge. the toddler said something that apparently annoyed her. she told the boy's mother she didn't know how to take care of her son and put him over her knee and spanked him three times. earlier this month a georgia man was arrested for slapping a woman's daughter in a walmart. he was charged with cruelty to children in the first degree. we are following a drive-by shooting in antioch, california. a male student was shot several times by deer valley high school. these are live pictures of some of the students in the parking lot right now. school officials say the teenager was shot after an argument with another group of people. that led to a lockdown at all

they wanted to make sure the offices would be open the day before the execution in case something happens. muhammad was convicted of the 2002 murder of a virginia man at a gas station. in all, he and his teenage accomplice shot 13 people in the d.c. area in 2002, killing ten of them. investigators are searching again at garrido's home. investigators expect the search will take several days. certainly the rest of the week. garrido and his wife nancy are already charged with kidnapping jaycee dugard and keeping her captive for 18 years. both have pleaded not guilty in the case. police say jaycee dugard's 1991 kidnapping has similarities to the disappearance of two other girls. you see all three one women

we're just getting this picture in. we know very little about it. the smoke you see at the top of the screen is the wreckage of a plane that missed the runway at the hayward, california, executive airport. a small plane literally missed the runway, went over a road. there's a better shot. went over the road and caught on fire. right by a series of buildings and what looked like railroad tracks. which paralleled the runway. it is said to be a king air twin turbo. the plane had taken off. it was returning. obviously some sort of mechanical issue. that's why it would return. it missed the runway all together and burst into flames. we don't know the fate of those on board. four men are charged with

gang raping a student at long island university. newspaper reports say the man snatched an 18-year-old woman's cell phone as she was dancing at a party on the campus. he used that phone to lure her to a dorm bathroom where she was tied up and gang raped. some students are upset with university officials because they first learned about the attack on facebook. police are still searching for a fifth suspect. there's word from hill college in texas that three basketball players are being held in connection with the alleged rape of a fellow student. the school's president said the incident occurred monday night at a campus dorm. the victim was treated at a hospital and is now home with her feap. family. an idaho woman says one minute she was talking and laughing with her husband, and the next she had a tree limb sticking out of her throat. we have to warn you, these pictures are hard to take. last week newlyweds michelle and her husband were taken a scenic drive and somehow a limb from the spruce tree came right through the passenger's side window and impaled her neck. she doesn't know exactly what

connecticut, have scheduled a news conference for about an hour and a half from now. they're going to talk about the latest developments in the investigation at the killing of a yale grad student. in the medical examine's office in new haven, connecticut, says 24-year-old annie le was strangled to death. the office also says it cannot say anything at this point about whether there were signs of sexual assault. forensics experts are now testing the dna of a yale university lab technician to see if he might be linked to her. they searched raymond clark's apartment yesterday. they also towed away his mustang. clark's attorney says he is cooperating with investigators. his sister, his brother-in-law, and fiancee, all are all technicians that the lab where annie le worked. new haven's police chief saysta clark is not the only person they are investigating. >> we're also making sure that there's not other potential suspects. and so avoiding the issue of tunnel vision, we're looking at everyone that had access to that

some students of upset with the university officials because they first learned about this attack on facebook. police are still searching for a fifth suspect. california authorities are -- again, back at the home of kidnapping suspect phillip garrido. they started the search yesterday. and they're looking for clues into the disappearance of two young girls who went missing in the late '80s. investigators expect the search will take several days. garrido and his wife are already charged with kidnapping jaycee dugard, keeping her captive for 18 years. they have pleaded not guilt nethat case, and police say that jaycee dugard's 1991 kidnapping, that it has similarities to the disappearance of two other young women, michaela garecht in 1998 and ilene misheloff in 1989. both garecht and misheloff were abducted from cities less than 50 miles from antioch. and dugard and garecht when you put their pictures side by side, you can see they look-alike. and not only that the sketch of the suspect and in garecht's abduction resembles photos of phillip garrido at the time.

and also this, police say that there were similarity in the getaway vehicle in both garecht and misheloff's cases and a car found on garrido's property. got some live pictures to show you right now. there's a plane that crashed in the bay area in california. this is hayward, california's municipal airport. apparently a twin-engine beach craft king air had just taken off. there were some sort of mechanical problem. the plane tried to get back. didn't make it to the runway and you can see the result. crashed and there was a fire. no word yet on how many people were on board. how many injuries as a result of this, but this plane tried to come back after mechanical problems and then ended up crashing right there at the airport. a virginia judge has set november 10th as the execution date for convicted d.c. sniper john allen muhammad. prosecutors have requested muhammad be put to death before, a monday, but judge wanted to make sure government offices will be opened the day before the execution.

last week president obama laid out what he believes are the key criteria for reform. it is to provide more security and stability for those with health insurance today, it should expand coverage to those who don't. age it should slow the growth of health care costs, and it should keep insurance companies honest. >> so here is a few bullet froints this plan. the plan will require every american to buy private health insurance. there's no government-run insurance plan. there would be nonprofit co-ops that could provide coverage. the proposal also forbids insurance companies from dropping policyholders if they get sick and it includes protections for people with preexisting medical conditions. baucuy is also proposing tax credits to help middle and low-income families to pay insurance and the measure would create insurance exchanges to help individuals in small groups, compare plans when they shop for coverage. so stay tuned when how it's

nobody was hurt in all this, but the homeowner, he says he lost priceless art collection. a faberge egg and a violin. investigators say it will take a while to confirm all of his losses. able to keep the flames from spreading to a neighbor's homes. this is in a hollywood hill's area. fire's out. no word on wa caused it yet. an update on a plane crash in the bay area. this is hayward, california's municipal airport. authorities say the only person on board was the pilot. firefighters pulled him from the wreckage, got him to the hospital. don't know how he's doing. but apparently this twin-engine beech craft king air had just taken off. some sort of mechanical problems so the pilot tried get back to the airport. did to the make it to the runway. you can see right there, the plane crashed and caught fire. only person on board is the pilot. white house spokesperson robert gibbs says president obama doesn't think criticism of his policies are based on the

color of his skin. that's just part of the growing fallout since a congressman shouted "you lie" during the president's speech on health care last week. yesterday the house passed a resolution mostly along party lines. this resolution formally admonished south carolina republican joe wilson. house democrats wanted him to apologize to congress right there on the floor for his behavior, but wilson says his personal apology to president obama applied to everyone and he wouldn't apologize anymore and now former president jimmy carter says he thinks wilson's outburst was rooted in race pichl he told nbc's "nightly news" it's part of a bigger backlash against the country's first black president. >> that racism in the nation still exists. and i think it's bubbled up to the surface because of a belief among many white people, not just in the south but around the country, that african-americans are not qualified to lead this
