national who's accuse of this kind of tie in the united states. >> sources tell cnn that zazi had a video of new york's grand central terminal as well as shops and restaurants that see an average of a half million visitors per day. germany raised the threat level because of a new threat from al qaeda. germany is increasing security measures, especially at airports and train stations. it says a new video released by al qaeda yesterday suggests the group will hit germany if upcoming elections don't go the way it wants. some want to pull german troops out of afghanistan. the video didn't say which political party should win, but, the video says, quote, if the german people decide to continue this war, they seal their fate. authorities searching the property of phillip and nancy garrido today found another bone, but right now they can't say whether or not it's human. investigators are searching the back yard for the possible clues

oh. >> you know how the sec goes, they fight for every football game across the deep south. the rainfall will continue. the area of low pressure has been in place for quite sometime. to give you some idea as it taps the moisture from the gulf, we have seen already about eight inches of rabefall around nashville, tennessee where typically for this time of the month, we should see about two inches. their ground is saturated. to the northern tier, their temperatures are going to be warm. in some cases, it will be high. what do we mean by heavy rainfall? northern sections of alabama where you can see some of the purple-shaded areas, between 6 and 8 additional inches of rain as we go to the next 48 hours. but all across the deep south, we've seen various flooding situations and in memphis, they had to evacuate a day care. no injury there is, but the flooding was affecting the building. i'm cnn meteorologist karen mcguiness. that's a look at your forecast.

dave hopes one of them will land him a new job. an intense man hunt is under way in washington state for an escaped criminally insane killer. phillip arnold paul walked away from a group of patients during a field trip to a county fair in spokane on thursday. and now, state officials are facing intense criticism for allowing paul, who has a violent criminal past, to be on that field trip. he was committed to a mental hospital after he admitted to killing an elderly woman back in 1987. paul, who is schizophrenic said he killed her because he thought she was a witch. we all know that our cars are a big source of green house gases. a culprit in global warming, but some of our food is a concern as well. cows and sheep is responsible for 18% of green house gases. researchers are looking at a way to reduce that by feeding the

weekend here on hln. najibullah zazi was arrested on a terror plot and admitted to having ties with al qaeda. sources tell cnn the alleged plot may have been targeting a major transportation center like a large railroad or subway station. the attack allegedly was going to be carried out in the new york area where there are large crowds and nonairport security screening is lax. this case may be different. it doesn't seem to be informant driven but it seems to have been driven by telephone intercepts. that may make this case more real. another unusual thing is the allegation of a direct tie to al qaeda. many of the cases in the united states, we've seen, don't have that tie. and finally, another thing that is kind of unusual about this case is this is an afghan. actually, there are very few afghan members of al qaeda. and i think this is the first afghan national who's accused of

this kind of tie in the united states. >> sources tell cnn that zazi had a video of new york's grand central terminal as well as shops and restaurants that see an average of half a million visitors per day. germany has raised its terrorism alert level because of a new threat from al qaeda. germany's government said it's increasing security measures, especially at airports and train stations. it says that a new video released by al qaeda yesterday suggests that the group will hit germany if upcoming elections don't go the way it wants. some political parties in germany want to pull german troops out of afghanistan. the video didn't say which political party should win, but, the video says, quote, if the german people decide to continue this war, they seal their fate. authorities searching the property of phillip and nancy garrido today found another bone. but right now they can't say whether or not it's human. investigators are searching the garrido's back yard here for possible clues in the

disappearance of two other girls who vanished in the late '80s. the police say they have no evidence tieing the garridos to the disappearances. but they say the garridos can't be eliminated as suspects. the couple is charged with kidnapping jacee dugard 18 years ago. california won't be able to cut the prison population as much as the federal government wants. the state reduleased a plan to reduce the population by 23,000 inmates. but federal judges ordered california last month to cut it by 40,000. that's because the medical care in prisons is too poor. unclear what the states will do now. california did all it can to comply with the order. some people have been very vocal in their criticism of president obama's plan to reform the health care system. former president jimmy carter thinks some of the criticism is based on racism -- or is it just a matter of free speech? as joe johns reports, mr. obama

himself is trying to answer that very question. >> reporter: the president could no longer avoid talking about it -- race. it came up in interview after interview. this one with cnn's john king. >> are there people out there who don't like me because of race? i'm sure there are. that's not -- that's not the overriding issue here. i think there are people who are anti-governme anti-government. i think there are -- there's been a long-standing debate in this country that is usually that much more fierce during times of transition. where when presidents are trying to bring about the big changes. i mean, the things said about fdr pretty similar to the things said about me. he was a communist, a socialist. things that were said about ronald reagan when he was trying to reverse some of the new deal programs. you know, we're -- we're pretty vicious as well.

the magnitude 6.4 quake was center in the resort island of bali. seven people were injured. people were running in to the streets for safety. earlier this month, another earthquake triggered a massive landslide that killed 65 people and injured hundreds more. check this out -- people living in an atlanta suburb are trying to figure out what to do about this massive sink hole. the hole is more than 25 feet long and it's threatening several homes. it opened up thursday after several days of heavy rain. and as you can see, it's taking up part of the sidewalk, the curb, and the street. the hole is in a private development, so the cost of fixing it will fall to the homeowners' association. when a huge water main broke, there was nothing to do but scramble for higher ground. >> deep freeze is underwater, my furnace is underwater. >> the torrid of water that flooded homes and cars. i'm lindy.

iran's highly contested presidential election. indonesian authorities say dna evidence proved they killed northern top. it was the most wanted terror suspect. he was accused of planning several deadly terror bombings including the 2002 bombings in bali. he was kill in a shootout this week. even though the police did not arrest raymond clark for several days, they pinpointed him early on as a suspect in the killing of the yale grad student annie le. they had good evidence to back up their case. ray clark knew he was in trouble. he knew he was followed by more than half a dozen police investigators. he also knew where the investigation of annie le's death was heading. he had his narcotics unit, which specializes in surveillance, track clark's every move, even before they found annie le's

body, the chief said he knew clark was the prime suspect. the head of the unit, lieutenant john valeka began following clark saturday night, the day before le's body was found. strangled and hidden inside the basement wall at the lab building where she worked alongside the man now accused of killing her. at first, narcotics officers didn't want clark to know they were on his trail. that first night, they camped outside of his parent's house in cromwell, connecticut, about 24 miles from yale's campus. the day le's body was found, clark played softball. detectives were in the crowd. by monday, the day after le's body was discovered, investigators changed their tactics. they wanted clark to know they were tailing him. they parked right in front of his apartment and let their badges show while they walked around. mind games they were hoping would lead clark to talk to them and maybe even confess. it didn't happen. tuesday morning -- investigators

went to him, armed with search warrants. they wanted hair and fingernail dna samples. investigators focused on clark in part because of what they saw in more than 700 hours of videotape from the lab building security cameras. on that tape, ray clark stood out. a source with knowledge of the investigation told me clark was seen leaving the building after someone, possibly him, pulled the fire alarm. he had his head in his hands and he looked distraught. after clark gave a dna sample on wednesday, he got a room at this super 8 hotel in his family's hometown. he stayed there with his parents, hiding from the media, likely knowing it wouldn't be long before officers came knocking again. by this time, investigators had interviewed 150 people and had collected 300 pieces of evidence. then came the dna match our source says clearly connects clark to the murder, indicating the victim's dna was found on

kind of tie in the united states. >> sources tell cnn that zazi had a video of new york's grand central terminal, as well as shops and restaurants that see an average of a half million visitors per day. germany has raised its terrorism alert level, because of a new threat from all died. germany's government says it's increasing security measures, especially at airports and train stations. it says that a new video released by al qaeda yesterday suggested the group will hit germany if upcoming elections don't go the way it wants. some political parties in germany want to pull german troops out of afghanistan. the video didn't say which political party should win, but the video says, quote, if the german people decide to continue this war, they've sealed their fate. authorities searching a property of phillip and nancy garrido say they found another bone. but right now, they can't say whether or not it's human. investigators are searching the garridos' backyard for possible clues in the disappearance of

two other girls who vanished in the late '80s. police say they have no evidence tying the garridos to the other disappearances, but say they also can't be eliminated as suspects. the garridos are charged with kidnapping jaycee dugard 18 years ago. the state released a plan yesterday to reduce the population by about 23,000 inmates. but federal judges ordered california last month to cut it by 40,000. federal courts concluded the medical care in prisons is too poor. it's unclear what the judges are going to do now. the state's correction secretary says california did all it can to comply with the order. some people have been very vocal in their criticism of president obama's plan to reform the health care system. former president jimmy carter thinks that some of that criticism is based on racism. or is it just a matter of free speech? as joe johns reports, mr. obama himself is trying to answer that

today. the magnitude 6.4 quake was centered near the resort island of bali. seven people were injured. it sent people running into the streets for safety. earlier this month, another earthquake triggered a massive landslide that killed 65 people, and injured hundreds more. check this out. people living in an atlanta suburb are trying to figure out what to do about this massive sinkhole. the hole is more than 25 feet long, and it's threatening several homes. it opened up thursday after several days of heavy rain, and as you can see, it's already taken out part of the sidewalk, curb and the street. the hole is in a private development, so the cost of fixing it will fall to the homeowners' association. when a huge water main broke, there was nothing to do but scramble for higher ground. >> deep freeze under water, my furnace is under water. >> reporter: what authorities are saying about the torrent ofg water that flooded homes and cars .

they were upset over the highly contested presidential election. dna evidence sayston was the country's most wanted terror suspect, accused of plotting terror bombings, including the 2002 bombings in bali. officials say he was killed in a shootout? java this week. that's a quick check of your headlines. even though police didn't arrest remained lark for several days, they pinpointed him early on as a suspect in the killing of yale grad student annie le. police think they have good evidence to back up their case. >> reporter: ray clark knew he was in if trouble. he knew he was being followed by more than half a dozen police investigators. he likely also knew where the investigation into annie le's death was heading. new haven police chief, gyms lewis, told me, he had his narcotics unit, which specializes in surveillance, track clark's every move, even before they found annie le's

body, chief lewis says he knew clark was their prime suspect. the head of the unit, lieutenant john valeka, began following clark saturday night, the day before le's body was found, strangled and hidden inside a basement wall at the lab building where she worked alongside the man now accused of killing her. at first, narcotics officers didn't want clark to know they were on his trail. that first night they camped outside his parents' house in krcromwel cromwell, connecticut. the day le's body was found, clark played softball. detectives were in the crowd. monday, the day after the body was discovered, investigators changed their tactics. they wanted clark to know they were tailing him. they parked right in front of his apartment, and let their badges show while they walked around. mind games they were hoping would lead clark to talk to them, and maybe even confess. it didn't happen. tuesday morning, investigators went to him.

armed with search warrants, they wanted hair and fingernail dna samples. investigators focused on clark in part because of what they saw on the more than 700 hours of videotape from the lab building security cameras. on that tape, ray clark stood out. a source with knowledge of the investigation told me clark was seen leaving the building after someone, possibly him, pulled the fire alarm. he had had his head in his hands and looked distraught. after clark gave a dna sample, on wednesday, he got a room at this super 8 motel in his family's hometown. he stayed there with his parents, hiding from the media, likely knowing it wouldn't be long before officers came knocking again. by this time, investigators had interviewed about 150 people, and had collected 300 pieces of evidence. then came the dna match our source says clearly connects clark to the murder, indicating the victim's dna was found on ray clark. early thursday morning, clark

earthquake triggered a massive landslide that killed 65 people, and injured hundreds more. government lawyers are trying to stop a controversial book project. of online search engine google and the author's guild have an agreement, google will digitally scan massive libraries of books and place them online. but the justice department says the agreement poses class action, copyright and antitrust concerns. the justice department says it does want to see a settlement, and it's urging both sides to continue negotiating. the government says if proper changes are made, the potential could be an important benefit for society. check this out. people living in an atlanta suburb are trying to figure out what to do about this massive sinkhole. the hole is more than 25 feet long, and it's threatening several homes. it opened up thursday after several days of heavy rain, and as you can see, it's already taken out part of the sidewalk, curb, and the street. the hole is in a private development, so the cost of

fixing it will fall to the homeowners' association. it is a big football weekend, so how is it looking in the deep south? are people going get drenched? meteorologist karen mcginnis has look at your forecast. >> you know how the sec goes, they fight for every football game across the deep south. it means the rainfall is going to continue. because this area of low pressure has been in place for quite some time. just to give you some idea as it taps that moisture from the gulf, we have seen already about eight inches of rainfall right around nashville, tennessee. where typically, for this far into the month, we should see about two inches. so their ground is absolutely saturated. into the northern tier, those temperatures are going to be quite warm. in some cases, it's going to be hot. now, what do we mean by that heavy rainfall? take a look at this. in northern sections of alabama, where you're seeing some of those purple-shaded areas between six and eight additional inches of rain. as we go into the next 48 hours. but all across the deep south,

a massive water main break flooded large parts of a neighborhood in suburban baltimore. rushing water submerged cars and sent water into several homes here yesterday. check it out. the water also collapsed a road and knocked out power to about a thousand homes. people in the neighborhood seemed to take it all in stride. >> my husband did make a joke of this. he said, get a for sale sign on the house right away, because now we have waterfront property. >> it took about two hours to get the water shut off. baltimore city officials say the water main break is part of a larger issue, with failing infrastructure in many u.s. cities. golfers are happy to see birdies and even eagles, but foxes? they're a different matter. in colorado, tom houk has a very unique problem with his backyard

this week following raids in new york and denver. sources tell cnn, the alleged plot may have been targeting a major transportation center like a large railroad or subway station. the attack allegedly was going to be carried out in the new york area where there are large crowds where there are large areas and the airport security screening is lax. >> this case may be different. one thing is, we haven't -- it doesn't seem to be informant driven. it seems to be driven more by telephone intercepts. that may make this case more real. another unusual thing is the allegation of a direct tie to al qaeda. many of the cases in the united states we have seen don't have that tie. and finally, another thing that is kind of unusual about this case, this is an afghan. actually, there are very few afghan members of al qaeda, and i think this is the first afghan national who is accused of this kind of tie in the united states. >> sources tell cnn that zazi had a video of new york's grand central terminal, as well as

shops and restaurants that see an average of a half million visitors per day. germany has raised its terrorism alert level, because of a new threat from al qaeda. germany's government says it's increasing security measures, especially at airports and train stations. it says that a new video released by al qaeda yesterday suggested the group will hit germany if upcoming elections don't go the way it wants. some political parties in germany want to pull german troops out of afghanistan. the video didn't say which political party should win, but the video says "iffed german people decide to continue this war, they've sealed their fate." authorities searching a property of phillip and nancy garrido say they found another bone, but right now they can't say whether or not it's human. investigators are searching the garridos' backyard for possible clues of two other girls who vanished in the late 1980s.

police say they have no evidence tying the garridos to the other disappearances, but say they also can't be eliminated as suspects. the garridos are charged with kidnapping jaycee dugard 18 years ago. california won't be able to cut its prison population as much as the federal government wants. the state released a plan yesterday reducing the population by about 23,000 inmates. but federal judges ordered california last month to cut it by 40,000. federal courts concluded the medical care in prisons is too poor. it's unclear what the judges are going to do now. the state's correction secretary says california did all it can to comply with the order. some people have been very vocal in their criticism of president obama's plan to reform the health care system. former president jimmy carter thinks some of that criticism is based on racism -- or is it just a matter of free speech? as joe johns reports, mr. obama himself is trying to answer that very question. >> reporter: the president could no longer avoid talking about it. race.

suspect. they began following clark saturday night the day before le's body was found. strangled and hidden inside a basement wall at the lab building where she worked alongside the man now accused of killing her. at first nar walk s narcotic officers didn't want clark to know they were on his trail. they camped outside his home, 24 miles from jail's campus. the day yale's body was found, clark played softball. detectives were in the crowd. by monday, the day after le's body was discovered investigators changed their tactics. they wanted clark to know they were tailing him. they parked right in front of his apartment and let her badges show while they walked around. mind games they were hoping would lead clark to talk to them and maybe even confess. it didn't happen. tuesday morning, investigators went to him, armed with search warrants, they wanted hair and fingernail dna samples. investigators focused on clark, in part, because of what they

saw on the more than 700 hours ever videotape from the lab building security cameras. on that tape, ray clark stood out. a source with knowledge of the investigation told me clark was seen leavinged building after someone, possibly him, pulled a fire alarm. he had his head in his hands and looked distraught. after clark gave a dna sample on wednesday he got a room at this super 8 motel in his family's hometown. he stayed there with his parents hiding from the media likely knowing it wouldn't be long before officers came knocking again. by this time, investigators had interviewed about 150 people, and had collected 300 pieces of evidence. then came the dna match our source says clearly connects clark to the murder indicating the victim's dna was found on ray clark. early thursday morning, clark was arrested and charged with killing yale medical student annie le. he's being held on $3 million bond.

he hasn't entered a plea. his lawyers aren't talking and neither is he. randi kaye, cnn, new haven, connecticut. california won't be able to cut its prison population as much as the federal government wants. the state released a plan yesterday to reduce the population by about 23,000 inmates, but federal judges ordered california last month to cut it by 40,000. federal courts concluded the medical care in prisons is too poor. it's unclear what the judges are going to do now. the state's correction secretary says california did all it can to comply with the order. germany raised its terrorism alert heavy because of you new threat from al qaeda. it's increasing security measures especially at airports and train stations. it says that a new video released by al qaeda yesterday suggested the group will hit germany if upcoming elections don't go the way it wants. some political parties in

germany want to pull german troops out of afghanistan. ed video didn't say which political party should win, but the video says, "if the german people decide to continue this war, they seal their fate." authorities searching the property of phillip and nancy garrido today found another bone. right now they can't say whether or not it's human. investigators are searching the greed op backyard for possible clues in the disappearance of two other girls who vanishrd in the late '80s. police say they have no evidence tying the garridos to the other disappearances but also say the garridos can't be eliminated as suspects. the couple is charred with kidnapping jaycee dugard two decades ago. ed man considered the godfather of neoconservatism saying irving kristol passed away after complications from lung cancer. he later switched to conservatism and became the leader of the conservatism

trying to stop a controversial book project. online search engine google and the author's guild have an agreement. scanning massive numbers of books and post them online. they're claiming copyright and antitrust concerns. just it department says it does want to see a settlement, and it's urging both sides to continue negotiating. the government says if proper changes are made, the potential could be an important benefit for society. check this out. people living in an atlanta suburb are trying to figure wlut to do about this massive sinkhole. the hole is more than 25 feet long and it's threatening several homes. it opened up thursday after several days of heavy rain, and as you can see, it's already taken out part of the sidewalk, curb and the street. the hole is in a private development. so the cost of fixing it will fall to the homeowners' association. it is a big football weekend.

so how's it looking in the deep south? are people going to get drenched? meteorologist karen ma begin ig looks at your forecast. >> you know how the sec goes. fighting for every football game across the deep south. it means 9 rainfall will continue because of this area of low pressure herb that's been in place for quite some time. to give you some idea, as it taps that moisture from the gulf, we have seen already about eight inches of rainfall right around nashville, tennessee, where typically for this far into the month we should see about two inches. their ground is absolutely saturated into the northern tier, those temperatures will be quite warm. in some cases it's going to be hot. now, what do we mean by that heavy rainfall? take a look at this. northern sections of alabama, the purple shaded areas, between six and eight additional inches of rain as we go into the next 48 hours, but all across the deep south, we've seen various flooding situations. in memphis they had to evacuate a day care knop injuries but the

sources tell cnn, the alleged plot may have been targeting a major transportation center like a large railroad or subway station. the attack allegedly was going to be carried out in the new york area where there are large crowds where there are large areas and the airport security screening is lax. >> this case may be different. one thing is, we haven't -- it doesn't seem to be informant driven. it seems to be driven more by telephone intercepts. that may make this case more real. another unusual thing is the allegation of a direct tie to al qaeda. many of the cases in the united states we've seen don't have that tie. and finally, another thing that is kind of unusual about this case, this is an afghan. actually, there are very few afghan members of al qaeda, and i think this is the first afghan national who is accused of this kind of tie in the united states. >> sources tell cnn that zazi had a video of new york's grand central terminal, as well as shops and restaurants that see

dna evidence says the country's most wanted terror suspect is accused of plotting terror bombings, including the 2002 bombings in bali. officials say top was killed in a shoot-out in java this week. jabba this week. ray clark new he was in trouble. he knew he was being followed by more than half a dozen police investigators. >> reporter: ray clark knew he was in trouble and knew he was being followed by or than half a dozen police investigators. he likely also knew where the investigation into annie le's death was heading. new haven police chief james lewis told me he his narcotics unit which specializes in this track clark's every move. even before they found le's body, they knew clark was the prime suspect.

they began following clark saturday night the day before le's body was found. strangled and hidden inside a basement wall at the lab building where she worked alongside the man now accused of killing her. at first narcotic officers didn't want clark to know they were on his trail. that first night, they camped outside his parents' home, about 4 miles from yale's campus. the day le's body was found, clark played softball. detectives were in the crowd. by monday, the day after le's body was discovered investigators changed their tactics. they wanted clark to know they were tailing him. they parked right in front of his apartment and let her badges show while they walked around. mind games they were hoping would lead clark to talk to them and maybe even confess. it didn't happen. tuesday morning, investigators went to him, armed with search warrants, they wanted hair and fingernail dna samples. investigators focused on clark, in part, because of what they saw on the more than 700 hours

of videotape from the lab building security cameras. on that tape, ray clark stood out. a source with knowledge of the investigation told me clark was seen leaving the building after someone, possibly him, pulled a fire alarm. he had his head in his hands and looked distraught. after clark gave a dna sample on wednesday he got a room at this super 8 motel in his family's hometown. he stayed there with his parents hiding from the media likely knowing it wouldn't be long before officers came knocking again. by this time, investigators had interviewed about 150 people, and had collected 300 pieces of evidence. then came the dna match our source says clearly connects clark to the murder indicating the victim's dna was found on ray clark. early thursday morning, clark was arrested and charged with killing yale medical student annie le. he's being held on $3 million bond. he hasn't entered a plea.

his lawyers aren't talking and neither is he. randi kaye, cnn, new haven, connecticut. california won't be able to cut its prison population as much as the federal government wants. the state released a plan yesterday to reduce the population by about 23,000 inmates, but federal judges ordered california last month to cut it by 40,000. that's because federal courts concluded the medical care in prisons is too poor. it's unclear what the judges are going to do now. the state's correction secretary says california did all it can to comply with the order. germany raised its terrorism alert level because of a new threat from al qaeda. it's increasing security measures especially at airports and train stations. it says that a new video released by al qaeda yesterday suggested the group will hit germany if upcoming elections don't go the way it wants. some political parties in germany want to pull german

online search engine google and the author's guild have an agreement. google will digitally scan massive numbers of books and place them online. the judge's debt says there are copyright and antitrust concerns. the justice department wants to see a settlement and is urging both sides to continue negotiating. the government says if proper changes are made, the potential could be an important benefit for society. check this out. people living in an atlanta suburb are trying to figure out what to do about this massive sinkhole. the hole is more than 25 feet long and it's threatening several homes. it opened up thursday after several days of heavy rain, and as you can see, it's already taken out part of the sidewalk, curb and the street. the hole is in a private development. so the cost of fixing it will fall to the homeowners' association. it is a big football weekend. so how's it looking in the deep south?

are people going to get drenched? meteorologist karen maginnis takes a look at your forecast. hey, karen. >> you know how the sec goes. fighting for every football game across the deep south. it means the rainfall will continue because of this area of low pressure here. that's been in place for quite some time. to give you some idea, as it taps that moisture from the gulf, we have seen already about eight inches of rainfall right around nashville, tennessee, where typically for this far into the month we should see about two inches. their ground is absolutely saturated. into the northern tier, those temperatures will be quite warm. in some cases it's going to be hot. now, what do we mean by that heavy rainfall? take a look at this. in northern sections of alabama, where you're seeing the purple shaded areas, between six and eight additional inches of rain as we go into the next 48 hour, but all across the deep south, we've seen various flooding situations. in memphis they had to evacuate a day care knop injuries but the

killer. phillip arnold paul walked away from a group of patients during a field trip to accountedy fair in spokane on thursday and now state officials are facing intense criticism for allowing paul who has a violent criminal past, to be on that field trip. he was committed to a mental hospital after he admitted to killing an elderly woman back in 1987. paul, who is schizophrenic, says he killed her because he thought she was a witch. we all know our cars are a big source of green house gases. a cull flit global warning. but some of our food is a concern as well. cows and sheep are responsible for about 18% of green house gases. researchers are looking at a simple way to reduce that by feeding the animals garlic. that's right. cloves of garlic. we have more in today's "ecosolutions."
