8:00 pm
tonight, superstar golf phenomenon tiger woods leaving his home at 2:00 a.m., i repeat, 2:00 a.m. and has a head-on collision. a major smash up with a tree and a fire hydrant. his young wife, mother of his two children hears the crash from inside the house, runs out and beats out both back windows of his cadillac. woods refusing to talk to police, not once, not twice, but three times. why?
8:01 pm
why did a neighbor have to call 911? we have the 911 call. woods pulling out of his own golf tournament because of an affair with a nightclub hostess hit the newsstands hours before the crash. >> tiger woods finds himself in a public relations bunker and police are in the rough. >> was he conscious or
8:03 pm
>> tiger woods makes a public statement saying he regrets his transgressions. he is apologizing for personal failings. >> joining us from wbdo, drew, from near tiger woods 'home. >> very interesting. they talked to the neighbors of tiger woods. one of the interesting things was that tiger woods was passed out cold, knocked out by the time they got there. what exactly knocked him out is unclear. there were no signs of alcohol or drugs. by the time they got there, he was out cold.
8:04 pm
a neighbor heard ten to 15 minutes of a knocking sound before they came downstairs. whether it was her knocking on the car to wake him up or her knocking on their door. i talked to someone close to the family, the sound of someone saying what's happened on 911, that was tiger woods mother. she was inside the house when this happened. very interesting new developments from this interview. >> well, nancy, we also learned, not only tiger woods 'mother was there, but elin's mother was there. they were all standing there while elin was tending to her husband, tiger woods. the neighbor describes tiger as having a cut lip. we don't really know much about what might have led up to the
8:05 pm
accident. now, kim from "in touch weekly" may have heard more about damage inside the house. >> it goes to the original rumors swirling around. once we heard about the accident, everyone was saying, was it precipitated by a fight inside the house. reports are coming out, was it because of text messages? did they have a fight. was it domestic violence? it all goes back to whether a fight happened in the house or the injuries came from the accident. >> also, drew, do we know anymore about why the alleged mistress, rachel uchitel cancelled the news conference? >> we're not sure. we thought this is where she was going to come clean and lie in her original statement to the "new york post" that everything was made up.
8:06 pm
she has a famous and well-schooled lawyer out there in l.a. behind the scenes, they must have made the decision, this is what's best moving forward. >> gloria was the one representing or is representing rachel uchitel. she's not denied any kind of payout. what do we know about rachel uchitel and other alleged miss tresses? >> this is what got coverage. gloria allred knows house to handal press conference. it was scheduled wednesday night. was supposed to be thursday. it was cancelled because of unforseen circumstances is what they said. there were some rumors swirling,
8:07 pm
there might have been conversations between rachel and tiger. there was talk about was there a payout. no, there's not a pay youth. tmz is stating rachel is quiet because she's squared. details are leaking out. so much is rumor. so much is speculation. we don't know at this point. >> take a look at these photos. these are model iling pictures tiger woods 'wife. this was back when she was living in sweden. she didn't really care about modelling, according to the photographer who photographed her. she quit modelling after taking a few of these pictures. went back to school to study child psychology and she also negotiate add deal, as soon as she became famous and linked to tiger woods, she went back to the photographer, negotiated a
8:08 pm
deal about which photographs he would release to the public. she's a very smart businesswoman in that account. drew, do we know anything about a prenup that elin may have sign ed? >> yeah. that's very interesting. apparently, there's some clause in the prenup where they would have had to have been together for a certain amount of time for the payment to be made. now that it's being re-negotiated, what's interesting is tiger woods is still here in orlando, held up in his mansion. they are going through intense marriage counseling. he has professionals coming in to try to work it out there.'s been a large sum of money put in an account controlled by tiger woods wife as a gesture of good faith that tiger wants to work this thing out. >> you said the payout before would be $20 million, is that correct? >> that's the figure i heard before.
8:09 pm
i haven't seen the legal jargon of what she would have to say. i'm not exactly sure what the contract reads. some of the reports, there were figures as high as $20 million. >> so, she gets 5 milli$5 milli for resigning the prenup, then, the daily beast is reporting, if she stays another seven years, she'll get $75 million. if she only stays two years, she gets $55 million. one thing, do we know, kim, are they in any sort of counseling or negotiations going on now? >> they are, apparently, according to reports in counseling. there's a new report out about a re-negotiated prenup. initially, the report says hers says she gets $20 million after staying with tiger for ten years.
8:10 pm
this new one gives her $5 million up front and $55 million if she stays with him another two years and up to $80 million to stay with him another seven. >> i know we touched on this briefly, but is there a payout to the other women allegedly linked to tiger woods? do we know about money changing hands from tiger woods to these women or are they paid to tell their story? >> there was a large sum of money for the audio recording tiger left on an answering machine. upwards of $150,000. whether uchitel was paid out, she's denying that. it's a shady situation. the money is being paid out. at this time, it doesn't seem like tiger is paying for anyone to keep quiet. >> it sounds like tiger woods wife said very little to the
8:11 pm
neighbors as she was comforting them. she apparently told the neighbor, i need help. please help me. please call 911. she said nothing else after that. she attended to tiger woods. never said anything about what precipitated the early morning crash the night after thanksgiving. >> when i talked to this person, someone close to the family of tiger woods 'neighbor, they were confused. when all the details come out, they are thinking was there a fight? what caused the crash? that's the biggest question. what caused the crash?
8:15 pm
8:16 pm
happen, again. >> what happened? what does tiger woods have to tell us? >> he was backing out of his drive way, hit a fire hydrant and sub se quetly a tree. he's suffered some injuries. >> his wife came out of the house when he heard the accident, him hitting the fire hydrant. used a golf club, we were told, to gain entry to the vehicle. >> my wife elin was the first person to help me. any assertion is absolutely false. >> every time you stone wall the cops, three days in a row, you look like you are hiding something or giuilty of something. >> as tiger woods hovers in and out of consciencens, woods' wife asked them to call 911.
8:24 pm
>> sir, for troop d with the florida highway patrol. major cindy williams. >> good evening. when he appreciate your attendance here, today. the florida highway patrol concluded this investigation of the vehicle crash involving mr. tiger woods. the investigation determined that mr. woods is at fault in the crash. this afternoon, fhp is in the process of issuing a uniform traffic citation for careless driving to mr. woods. any person operating a vehicle
8:25 pm
upon the streets and highways is required to drive in a careful and prudent manner, so as not to endanger the life, limb or property of any person. failure to drive in such a manner is defined as careless driving. careless driving is a moving violation. upon conviction, may result in a fine of $164 and four points on a driving record. this was a single vehicle crash, with a single occupant. unfortunately, it is one of thousands that occurs in our state each year. mr. woods has satisfied the requirements of florida law by providing his driver's license, registration and proof of insurance to us. with the issuance of this citation, the florida highway patrol completed the investigation. thank you. >> is there any truth --
8:26 pm
>> i have a few additional comments i would like to add. the fhp is not pursuing criminal charges in this matter. there is no testimony other than the charge of careless driving. after reviewing the evidence available to us and in consultation to the office of lawson lamar, it was determined there was insufficient evidence. we cannot speak to the existence of blood evidence. there are no claims of domestic violence by any individual. we will not answer any questions today. we believe these comments and our crash investigation report will speak for themselves. we will not conduct additional press conferences or interviews. despite the celebrity status of mr. woods, the florida highway
8:27 pm
patrol finished the investigation as any traffic investigation. our approach may vary depending on the status. >> i'm kind of feel sorry for elin since me and my wife are at fault, hooking her up with him. we thought he was a better guy than he is. i would probably apologize to her and hope she uses a driver instead of a three iron next time.
8:30 pm
8:31 pm
8:33 pm
8:34 pm
she woke up her brother. he sees tiger woods laying in the street. elin asked him for help. the thing that's not clear, drew, correct me if i'm wrong, we still don't know exactly if the neighbors heard anything or not. are there various reports of whether people heard an argument before it happened? >> these neighbors didn't. there are reports other neighbors did. i looked at an aerial shot and it seems like it would be hard for other neighbors to hear anything. these are huge houses. the only neighbor next to or remotely close to tiger woods house is far off in the corner of the street. it would strike me as strange if other neighbors were able to hear it. it would be difficult for another neighbor to hear a fight, even if there was one. >> kim, what does elin say?
8:35 pm
did she hear the crash? why did she end up outside? >> again, this is interesting. we don't know much about elin. according to the neighbors, she was there, asked for help, she was in shock. she was quiet, focused on tiger, asked for help. that's about it. it goes hand in hand with what we know about elin, which is not much. like tiger, she is very, very private. we have not heard much about her. she's not the typical celebrity wife that starts a clothing line and does interviews. she's been at golf games. she was a beautiful former swim suit model. other than that, she's stayed private. didn't want to live the celebrity life. told people or people said she never wanted to be a celebrity wife or girlfriend. she didn't want to be tiger's
8:36 pm
arm candy. she was attentive, but staying to the privacy that's important to them. >> she was attending to tiger woods after the crash. it's interesting. when he was first admitted into the hospital, the first reports, the police reports, said the injuries were serious. he was treated for a bit, then released. a neighbor saying he was snoring. i don't understand the snoring. dr., what would snoring, why would a person be snoring after a car accident? >> in a trauma incident, it's the hallmark feature of a temporary loss of consciousness. a head injury can quickly put someone in a deep sleep. the body will repeatedly gasp for air. it's a fight and flight response. it's a function of a loss of consciousness and related to your head position and swelling in the air area.
8:37 pm
we know he has an injury to the lip, so it does make sense. >> could that have been from striking the steering wheel or could it be something as simple as he bit his lip when he crashed the car? >> it could have been either of the two. we know -- i would feel comfortable concluding he sustained a concussion. it's somebody who lost consciousness, then had a normal head scan. it's the only way to get out of the hospital after a head injury. we know he was rushed to health central hospital. the troopers described his injuries as incapacitating. it's difficult to assess. he was treated and released the same day, which is a common pathway for a trauma patient with a mild concussion and head scan after a car accident. >> we didn't learn much about the injuries.
8:38 pm
the hospital reports are kept secret. the highway patrol said there's no probable cause to obtain medical records. they wouldn't say if there was blood taken. we know tiger bloods was not given a blood-alcohol test. we know all tiger woods said about his injuries, he pulled out of his own golf tournament. no details about the injuries he actually has.
8:43 pm
8:44 pm
>> it was very close, outside his house. >> i understand it was two houses away? >> correct. a neighbor's house. >> two houses away, but his wife says she heard him hit a tree, two houses away from inside tiger woods' home? >> that's what she says, yes. >> okay. she hears the crash, according to to her and she races out with a golf club? >> there's been two conflicting stories. one story, she ran out, the other story, she drove a golf cart. she smashed in the window of the backseat. >> wait, wait, wait. maxine page with us. >> yes. >> you said two conflicting stories. from where are they coming? >> she has. elin has. she said first of all she ran there, the second statement, she said in a golf cart.
8:45 pm
>> with her, she happened to bring a golf club. >> very handy. yes. >> maxine page, she beat out the back windows in order to pull him out of the driver's seat? >> correct. apparently, she smashed out the back window and pulled him out. >> okay, maxine, one more clarification, it's my understanding, she smashed out both back windows, right and left. yes or no? >> yes. correct. >> why? why smash out both windows? >> that's the question. it seems like excessive force. to smash the back windows seemed strange. >> maxine. >> yes. >> the likelihood of this incident occurring, the same day as the "enquirer" hits the
8:46 pm
stands. in new york, the "enquirer" can hit the stands thursday, thanksgiving. then, it gets to the rest of the country, friday, saturday, sunday monday, sometimes later. but, i believe it's on the front page of the "enquirer" about an alleged fair between tiger woods and a hostess -- what is a hostess for a nightclub? whatever. the lady and woods denies, hits the stands that day. in a couple hours, smash up and wife runs out of the house or comes out in a golf cart armed with a golf club. thoughts? >> it's a big coincidence. we have reporting that they had a heated argument over this woman and the affair. she spoiled their thanksgiving before running out of the house. >> of course, nobody can know what happened inside the house.
8:47 pm
it can't be confirmed unless he or she told people. it hit that is day. this happens that night. maxine page, isn't the woman denying the affair, the hostess at the nightclub? >> she's denied it. there's a lot of inconsistencies in the story. >> the executive editor of the ""national enquirer." you broke the story. tiger woods and the woman deny the affair. we don't know if there was a domestic dispute in the home because there's no witnesses inside the home. >> we are standing by our story. obviously an argument took place, from what we have been told. we specifically reported it a day before the accident that tiger was involved in a cheating scandal with a woman named
8:48 pm
rachel uchitel. she was a party girl. she went to australia to hook up with tiger. we followed her half-way around the world to australia. we saw her get off on the 35th floor of the hotel where tiger was staying. rachel is denying this. we feel comfortable with our report. we have multiple sours. >> let me ask you this. >> sure. >> has anybody threatened to sue you over the story? >> no. we have not received any threats of a lawsuit. tiger's people denied the story. we went to them for comment. rachel denied the story. i'm told she has an attorney, a great attorney, gloria allred in california. we have not received
8:49 pm
communication. >> that's one of the last things i would want is gloria allred chewing my behind, i can tell you that. let me ask you this, the alleged other woman gave her side of the story. let bego to our chief editorial director. she's denying the affair. >> rachel uchitel gave a very long interview -- >> rambling. she kept saying the same thing over and over. >> it happened last week, before she was using the services of gloria allred. she tells the post it's ridiculous. it's not true. the sources were out for a payday. she met tiger woods twice, very short meetings. she never spoke to him on the phone. she never exchanged text messages with him. they are not having an affair. >> okay.
8:50 pm
barry, the executive editor of the "national enquirer." what is your response to the things the so-called other woman had to say, giving her side of the story. >> i read her account today and posted a point-by-point denial. we believe in our sources. they passed polygraph tests. in addition to that, we saw in our own eyes, rachel uchitel goes to australia to meet with tiger woods. we had a team on the story for several weeks. we have dealt with these types of women before. it's not uncommon that somebody will deny an involvement with a major celebrity or news maker.
