5:00 pm
breaking news, tiger woods will return to golf at the master's in april. is he ready? he's still threated for a sex addiction trying to get his personal life together, marriage on the rocks. we know the ratings will be off the charts, all eyes will be on him. how will he handle the pressure. a flight from los angeles to new york turns into what passengers call a 16-hour nightmare. now we go inside. we have video inside the chaos. >> the captain will then make
5:01 pm
the decision based on the safety for all of us on board whether well be diverting or continue to hold for -- >> see the look on that guy's face? endless hours, screaming babies, little food. some say they had to ration potato chips, four to each passenger? we'll talk to someone on board that flight of horror. you're a huge part of the show, love hearing from you, call 1-877-tell-hln. welcome. this is "prime news" on mike galanos. all right. breaking news in less than a month tiger woods will return to golf at the master's, augusta national. you know, we've been anticipating his comeback and now have a date, april 8th. only four months since the car crash, the sex scandal, so while he is trying to save his
5:02 pm
marriage he decided to come back and play golf, no warm-ups coming back in arguably the game's most prejudicious event. will he be ready? what do you think? will you cheer his name? call in, 1-877-tell-hln's the number. back with us, rafer and tj walker and mike utos from bloomberg news covering the master's every year since 2001, also one of the few reporters in the room with tiger during the dramatic february polling apolo. before we go on i want to read his statement and get everybody's take. here's what he is saying, part of the statement, anyway, the mast master's is where i won my first major and i view this tournament with great respect. he goes on to say i've undergone almost two months of in-patient
5:03 pm
therapy. rafe reds, a rafer, are you surprised it's augusta? >> very, mike. first this is will be the mostwatched comeback in the history of sports, because it is personal and professional. even non-golf fans are anxious to see how he will do. but why all that pressure? play a tournament to warm up or tune up before this. in some respects it makes sense, he's won it four times. the big aspect we've touched on the fact there will be media control. no tournament will be able to dare i say coddle him more than the master's. the tabloids won't be allowed to be there and even a separate locker room for past winners. he'll be removed from some of the other golfers, as well. does he make the cut by not playing a tournament before that? i don't necessarily think he
5:04 pm
will. but, obviously, elin had to sign off on it for him to play this tournament. >> you would think so. you hit on a like there. mike, how much do you think control plays a key here because, hey, fans at augusta, a certain decorum, they can't be wild or they will boot them and maybe can never come back. >> i think it plays a huge part in this. tiger is very controlling in pretty much everything he's done his career. before he took control of it his father was very controlling with it. there's a certain media circus that would go on he played in the other tournaments. the exhibition match some thought he would come back monday and tuesday in orlando, that course is accessible by land, sea, and air. you can get there by boat. it would be, you know, a fellow tell la. >> makes it sound like an invasion. >> yeah. the master's is definitely -- the fact it can be controlled is certainly one thing he didn't address but i'm sure is on his mind and rafer, you point out why not a warm-up tournament. he's been warming up since age
5:05 pm
3. he goes to a tournament and just wants to win. if he were to say i'm playing a warm-up tournament, then he's basically saying i'm just going to be there to show up and play. he is -- his statement if you read carefully says that is the earliest i think i would be ready to play and ready to win is basically what he's saying. >> and gives him a couple weeks to get ready. face it he's had great success there, winning the master's four times and had great success since the last time he won in 2006. >> but golf didn't get him in trouble, mike. >> d.j., go ahead. >> golf isn't what got him in trouble. >> no, it's not. >> it's not surprising he would try to go back to the master's, a closed cocoon. but i think he is in for a surprise if he thinks he's still in control. we saw typical arrogance when he released that on his website. why didn't he come on hln? he still needs a press conference and answer questions otherwise at risk for a free for all. the master's is certainly
5:06 pm
controlled of all tournaments but i wouldn't be surprised to see someone -- parachuting in to ask him tough questions. i think it is not at all beyond question that there couldn't be a free for all with reporters -- >> how do you advice him, then, tj, he gets in that press room and all of a sudden the personal questions start flying, is is it no comments, no comment, no comment, is that what he has to do? >> that makes him look more arrogant and out of touch. he needs to have a press conference a week or so -- he should have had it four months ago but certainly at least a week before the master's should have a press conference, go on your show and tell the reporters i'll take every single question you have. the problem, there is this pent-up demand, so many want to know about this lawsuit, when did this happen? he doesn't have to go into the nitty-gritty of every single aspect of tawdry relationships but has to answer questions. until then he still acts above all the rules that apply to
5:07 pm
everyone else. >> but he doesn't care. >> -- looks arrogant. >> that's the thing, mike, he doesn't care. his handlers do not care. his agent doesn't care how he is perceived. i skdz asked some of the other writers, if ask you a personal question, what do you think will happen and was told there will be a list made of writers they don't like. i really think they will try to control their access to tiger's personal life from this point forward unger tder the guise, h the victim. the media is ganging up on him, leave him alone. you know a camp is crying out that sentiment. >> the problem, nobody in the public buys that. he's failed to answer a single question. >> i agree he should answer them, i just don't think he will. >> it is one thing to be a barry bonds strategy, i don't care about endorsements i'll do what i want and thumb your nose but tiger from a very young age has
5:08 pm
cared about his image and these endorsements. he's gotten the $100 million endorsement deals, so he cares. >> let's take a quick break. i want to hear from you, by the way. there is a camp that says, leave him alone and let him play golf, are you in that camp? 1-877-tell-hln's the number. he's coming back to the game. will we see the same tiger on the course, cussing and throwing clubs or will he change his behavior? >> i do plan to return to golf one day. i just don't know when that day will be. i don't rule out that it will be this year. when i do return, i need to make my behavio more respectful of thgame.
5:09 pm
5:10 pm
5:11 pm
hey. it's, uh, it's tiger. i need you to do me a huge favor. um, can you please, uh, take your name off your phone? my wife went through my phone and may be calling you. so, if you can, please take your name off that and, um, just have it as a number on the voice mail. just have it as your telephone number, okay? you have to do this for me, huge, quickly. all right, bye-bye. >> the alleged voice mail that blew the lid off this whole thing the sex scandal and everything that ensued after that. tiger woods ready to return to golf, set to play the master's augusta national early april. what do you say about this, our facebook question. here's what the poll there says right now, 40% of you will root for tiger. 60% of you will not.
5:12 pm
let's take a couple of phone calls. leonard in california. are you rooting for him or not? >> caller: sir, i'll be rooting for tiger to straighten his life out and make a model for our youth, who is coming up behind him. too many of these people are interested in money, money, money and they don't care about the example they are setting for his children or for the nation's youth golf players. thank you so much for taking my call. >> i agree with you. i hope there is a redemption story with him and he can tell the kids, don't do what i did in your personal life. good call there. jan's with us, colorado. go ahead. >> caller: hi. >> hi, jan. >> caller: i certainly won't be watching because i don't think he's anywhere near ready to even get into the public. he's a very, very sick man and totally arrogant. and if i hear about it, i hope
5:13 pm
to hear he falls flat on his face golf clubs! >> okay. interesting. let me throw this out to the viewers and hopefully get a couple more calls. do you want to see that? do you want to see him fail on the golf course then see broken man then you might be ready to root for him again? call in. 1-877-tell-hln. let me get mike in on this, again he's covered the master's. you've been there and you know the fans there at augusta national. what kind of reception? probably better than elsewhere, right. >> exactly. the only difference at the master's, you have the practice rounds that lead up, the monday, tuesday, wednesday, practice rounds a whole different crowd than the thursday through sunday crowd, who are long-time ticketholders. people that have been going there for generations, very respectful, very reserved. the only question you might have are the monday through wednesday crowd where people can essentially walk up on the street and buy a ticket for whatever price that somebody's willing to charge them. now, those you may get the occasional rowdy fan in there
5:14 pm
who doesn't necessarily care if he gets thrown out for the day. the people thursday through sunday, they are going to care because they can lose their tickets they've had for generations. it's a very different crowd and one i'm sure will be on high alert for augusta national officials this year. >> rafer, let me get him in, quickly, tj, then you. i still think people want that authenticity -- he said the right things with the apology but it was scripted. i want to see the open-hearted, roll up the sleeves tiger at some point. i think that is how he will win over the 60% who say they won't root for him. >> no question, mike. that will be his achilles heel. even if tears up the court and says i'm not going to talk about it, i'm not -- a percentage of people won't be happy with that because this man fooled us into thinking he was something that he was not. he led us to believe he was this role model, this family man, clean-cut image, it was all a lie. some people are going to want
5:15 pm
that may kulpa and ari fleischer, the word is he retained to guide him on this who had mark mcg require do an interview with bob costas and he said, i've already answered those questions. it would seem to be the direction he would take. sit down with "60 minutes" or oprah, do that interview and never address it on the pga tour. it's interesting to see if that's the avenue he goes. >> he has to do that otherwise we'll hear a lot more that we heard from the last caller. he's a polarized figure, used to being reviewed and never will be ready to come back in some people's minds until he opens up and as you said he was scripted in the press conference. i think it was pretty good but it was still a script. it has to be appear to be sp speaking from the heart. the only way is by answers
5:16 pm
questions. >> we'll continue to be all over this story for you. rafer be there as tiger makes his return. on "issues, jane velez-mitchell, what does this return mean for his recovery, is it too soon? on "the joy behar show," why did he pick augusta and the master's and the debate whether his fans will welcome him back to the game. we'll hit on a bit of all of that. love that hear from you. coming up a desperate search for a mom and her son. they were on their way to visit relatives this weekend. never made it. their van found partially submerged on a private beach.

a frantic search in washington state for a mother and her 8-year-old son last seen saturday then this eerie discovery their van found partially submerged on a private

map and getting directions to downtown olympia. an hour later, she showed up at this olympia restaurant, paid for food, but didn't take it. workers say her behavior was odd and she fell in the parking lot. before 10:00 this surveillance video from a gas station north of limb ba shows her van driving through the lot and headed towards town but she never made it. >> she seemed like a young ladies who was lost, that was it. >> she knocked on the door of dennis williams' north olympia home. he says she was frightened and lost but seemed perfectly normal otherwise. >> i thought she was fine. i gave her directions to get back down to i-5 which is what she was looking for. >> the next morning her van was discovered in the water at the other end of the peninsula. >> we are just hoping for the best and praying for the best. >> her grandfather says it is gut wrenching to see divers looking for his loved ones and hope the tracking dogs can find a good scent on land leading them to them, safe and sound.

how does a five-hour flight from los angeles to new york turn into a 16-hour nightmare? that's what we're trying to find out. now there is video from inside virgin america flight 404 which left california saturday about 7:00 in the morning. that's 10:30 a.m. eastern. it was to land jfk, new york, that afternoon at 3:35. about five hours. but the winds were too strong to land. it circled jfk for a couple hours then diverted 90 miles away to stewart airport and sat on the tarmac for hours. the airlines say it took about
5:31 pm
four and a half hours and the passengers say close to seven hours, close to midnight they were put on a bus then a two and a half hour ride to jfk and arrived 3:00 a.m. eastern. that last hour went to daylight savings time, not much solace. in all their flight 11 hours late and they plane took off empty and the empty plane gets to jfk before they did, a little salt in the wound there. we'll take your calls on. this joining us david moartin, passenger who took the video we're about to see. david, describe what it was like in there. >> hectic at times and at times fun. a roller coaster for the hours we were stuck in the plane. >> you said fun? trying to make the best of it. >> yes. we had a couple of passengers a that were pretty in good spirits, we are socializing, updating our socnal net sial ne and wanted to put a positive
5:32 pm
spin on what was a negative situation. >> we've got about a 40-second clip. give us a feel what was like in there. let's watch it. >> at this point, the captain has told me jfk is currently closed, winds gusting over 60 miles an hour on the runway so there is nothing going in or leaving new york. a ramp area here, we won't be able to get off the airplane. we're going to fuel and see if that weather can move through new york here. i've got to make phone calls and get you an update. i just wanted to welcome you to stewart. >> we're going to look at the weather here every like five minutes. thanks for your patience again you guys have been great. >> the voice there sounds pretty polite. >> right. >> did the crew handle this -- emplsts the video is actually from contain.com but the captain
5:33 pm
came on and gave a lot of different explanations what's going on some of the passengers are befrazzled more than others. so we had a couple situations some people wanted to get off the aircraft approximately two hours sitting on the tarmac naturally. the problem was the stewart international airport supervisor that was pretty aggressive came to the front of the airplane and wasn't letting anyone off so virgin wanted to get people off when we went through a rough patch and wanted to get food and water to the passengers but they couldn't get anything because this supervisor wasn't really helping out. >> let me read a statement, from virgin america, here's what they're saying. the aircraft was held at stewart airport for four and a half hours. during this time water was provided for guests and guests had the ability to leave the aircraft throughout the -- to enter the airport. several of the guests did, in fact, leave the aircraft. five additional cases of water were delivered to the aircraft. food was limited and we ran out on board about the two-hour mark
5:34 pm
however guests had the option to leave the plane and enter the airport. so, were you able to get off the airplane on not? >> let me correct that. so, the water delivered courtesy of jet blue, it wasn't a virgin america airport but a jet blue airport. passengers eventually got off the plane after we had to through a lot of arguments with the supervisor of the stewart international airport. >> how long did that take before they let you off? >> several hours. >> several? >> the first five passengers got off and then they wouldn't let anymore off then eventually we got another, you know, 16 or so passengers off the plane. and then they said, look, no one else -- that's it, you are stuck here and not moving. that kind of sucked, right? >> it would seem. the way i'm reading the story it sounded like were you able to get -- everybody was able to get off if you wanted, you could get off the plain. >> oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. that was not the case that. was not the fault of virgin america but stewart international airport, believe me. >> the end game you ride a bus
5:35 pm
for a couple of hours and finally end up at jfk and gave you a refund and -- are you okay but still have a beef. >> a lot of us are not angry at all about the situation but very happy social media -- people like the ceo of a airline is able to see what's going on. you don't have to write a letter of complaint anymore, they come to you. that's what we're happy about and i think all the passengers have respect for the fact they have a refund and move forward. when i talked to the ceo, we need to lead by example and learn from the situation and go ahead in the future, i think, virgin america are going to be at the top of the game like they have been since they started. >> david, thanks for the video. thanks for your insight. we can all relate being on a plane that long can be hell. >> oh yeah. >> we appreciate your story. thanks so much. coming up, tough talk from john edwards former aide with plenty to say about the woman who had the affair with john
5:36 pm
edwards. >> you know, at the same time she was dating john edwards, she was also dating jeff goldbloom and led him to believe it was his baby, as well. >> how about that jab, hunter taking that from andrew young. she's also suing him and he's firing back, a -- rheal hunter rsus andrew young, want to hear from you about that. 1-877-tell-h.

5:40 pm
it would be a talker but this has taken on a life of its own. first, it was these provocative photos, there she is cozying up to barney, dora, the explorer but some of the quotes, she talks about elizabeth edwards, quote, i have such compassion for her but it's also sad to me her unwillingness to take pont for her part in the marriage. big time jab. also this, a big one, she says, quote talking about john edwards he, in fact, did say to me the first night falling in love with you could really "f" up plans for becoming president. then this one a slam at his former aide saying, quote, i believe he loved johnny, what she calls him, more than his wife, cherri, so johnny was the third person in their relationship. young's response to all that in an interview with hln's joy
5:41 pm
behar. >> i loved john edwards, i believed in john edwards and clearly believed in the causes he espoused. but the reason i worked as hard for john edwards was because i wanted a brighter future for my wife and for a my kids and for everybody else. i truly believed in those causes. but, to say that i loved john edwards more than my family is just ridiculous. >> well, she's implying you were gay, i think. it sounds like that to me. >> well, you know, i can -- well, i'm not going to say that, i might get into some trouble. i don't think there is any doubt anybody who knows me i'm not gay and to quote the old "seinfeld" line, not that there's anything wrong with it. >> no. >> what do you make of all that? 1-877-tell-hln's the number. joining us our sipsychotherapis stacey kaiser. do you see unhealthy devotion to
5:42 pm
john edwards from andrew young? he was willing to take the fall and say he was father of the baby. >> i do think so but it doesn't mean he was in love with him. it is typical for people trying to climb in a work environment to do whatever it takes to keep their job and he may have been willing to do that. >> young firing back here's what he is throwing out on the cbs "early show" baking saying hunter is getting the money to pay all her lawyers from john edwards. let's watch. >> i think john edwards is telling them whatever he needs to tell them to make them in do what he wants them to do. >> are you saying you believe he is still in touch with her? >> very much so, yes. >> why? >> well, last week i was in court being atacked by at least seven corporate lawyers and if she can't afford to pay for a $1500-a-month house, i don't know how she's paying hundreds of thousands for lawyers to put my through my paces for weeks. >> you are saying you believe john edwards is not only still
5:43 pm
in touch with her but possibly paying her legal fees? >> i can't thi of anyone else who would do it other than him. >> quite an allegation. in court because of this alleged sex tape andrew young, the judge believes he might still have retained a copy of all that. through all this, though, stacey, hunter believes john edwards, johnny she calls him, still loves her, she loves him, what do you make of all that? what do you think john edwards is going through as he watches this unfold. >> first what i want to tell you, she was no one before him and very much has her identity tied to being connect to him and i think that's part of why she continues to talk about their love and romance and how close they are. as for john, well, if it's true, that's a whole other story. but if it's not, he's just continuing to have put into his face what he did wrong. >> yeah. let's get a call, neil with us from arizona. your thoughts on all this? neil? are you with us? no neil. call in, 1-877-tell-hln.
5:44 pm
let's listen to lisa depaula who did the interview for "gq" magazine and she insists, talking about hunter, telling her that john edwards is no liar. let's listen to that. >> i said, you know, right now a lot of people in america think he's probably one of the most untruthful men in america. we know he lied to his wife, you know he lied to his staff and to the country. you don't think he lies to you? and she said, he doesn't lie to me. she believes that. >> what do we have there, stacey, the mind of a mistress, he's going to be truthful to her all of a sudden? >> i think two things working, first of all anyone willing to have an affair and end up with crumbs in a relationship is someone with low self-esteem and she will believe what he says but i think there is another component, that is, she was the special one on the inside telling her the truth about their relationship, supposedly
5:45 pm
and so she still thinks she's on the inside. >> couple of facebooks, mike writing she is the other woman and homewrecker not the vehicletism. dar darla writes: pretty insightful. stacey, great to have you aboard. thanks again. coming up a wisconsin middle school principal took drastic measures to improve student performance posting a list of all the kids failing, the "f" list, he says it is to give them some urgency. is this the best way to encourage our kids? >> helping you navigate a tough economy. anthony in louisiana writes, i'm 55 years old and i'll be retiring at the end of june 2010. i will get just over $20,000 paid to me at that time for unused sick time. i need to know the best way to invest or save this money to decrease the loss to taxes and
5:46 pm
increase the value of it. i don't know your particular situation, anthony. if that can come to you as money that can go into an i.r.a. that, would be the best suggestion. you pay taxes on it but it grows tax free for the next several years. the other option, of course, whether or not you are investing it in a tax-preferred type of account what do you with that money is important. you are 55 years old and you will need it in a while. i don't know the rest of your situation but that is enough to put into mutual funds and dividers disverse fiing it prop inin ini. remember, this is probably not the only $20,000 that you are putting away for retirement so do something with this that compliments the rest of your strategy so when you look at that pie chart make sure you look at your whole picture, not just this. the first option, to get it into a tax-preferred account. if that isn't an option for you, invest it in a way that is
5:47 pm
diversified that allows you to make money off the stock market not putting in an account with one or two percent interest. love hearing fruom you. e hamail your questions to: i'm ali velshi.

5:51 pm
and then i was pretty distraught when i went there, i saw it took a picture of it. >> reporter: his daughter 1 of 100 names on the "f" list posted for the entire school to see. >> she couldn't believe it. that she was on that -- on that list. she was very upset. >> reporter: principal shepsky was his intent wasn't on embarrass the students. >> what the kids are known for quite a long time if they have their names on a failing list on a natural grading period they do not have the opportunity to go it a dance, field trip or something like that, their privilege is gone. >> reporter: it's first time that he's posted the "f" list in public. it was his way of motivating them to get their assignments in so they can go to the school dance. and it seems to have worked. >> i also told the kids once you get that stuff turned in and we can get you taken care of off of the list today and then you'll be eligible of going and i think that we're about halfway through our list and we probably have half of those kids who are already getting homework turned in and assignments turned in and

right place for the comeback or not. >> i really didn't. i thought he should do a tune up tournament and first of all that's standard for most golfers. they'll play a tune up and then go to the masters. the second thing is the problem is the luster of the masters has taken away from the masters itself and put on tiger woods so if i'm trying to be fair to other golfers for i'm really trying to make a statement, if i'm trying to invite the press in then maybe i do that at a smaller tournament and come out for masters and do the best that i can. >> that's what we thought. if we could get the first part of his statement up again, and even if not, let me paraphrase. he says he has great respect for the tournament. to your point, ryan, i want to read a statement from the second-ranked golfer in the world, friend of tiger, steve stricker, he said said this "whenever he comes back it will draw a lot of attention to that tournament. i don't know if augusta would like that to know, you know, to turn it into tiger's comeback tournament, instead of the masters, itself." rafer weigel, is he -- does this effect the other golfers? if so, how much? and is there a lack of respect to the holoed ground of augusta
6:04 pm
by turning had into tiger's comeback? >> it is a catch-22, mike. stricker's absolutely right. a friend of tiger woods coming out and saying come on, please do not play this tournament first. play another one before this. all of this is about access, mike. that's exactly what it's about. it's about his team, once again, looking to control media access around this man. there is no more restrictive tournament than the masters tournament. the tmzs, the radaronlines they will not be there and the golf media that's there what will happen once we ask a question that tiger woods doesn't want to answer? the masters has no problems taking away your media -- your media credential. so in my opinion it's a very selfish move. >> yeah. >> shudo the media first. do the mea culpa and come out in another tournament. face the media like a man instead going in there trying to inch your way in and insulate yourself. again, it's all about spend, spend, spend, spend and controlling what he wants us to
6:05 pm
know about. >> right control, control, control and i agree with you ryan, by the way. this is augusta, the masters. other golfers shouldn't have to answer questions after question, let him deal with it at bay hill, the arnold palmer tournament. but that's what we have. and to rafer's point, ryan, this is about control. you get more control at a place like augusta, right? >> you really do. you get to control exactly what questions are asked. you get to control who's there. you're not going to see the tmzs, all of those folks. at the same time i feel for that golfer if it's not tiger woods who wins the masters and gets that green jacket and wakes up on monday morning and sees not one single article about himself, but 20 articles about tiger woods. and that's why this is a selfish move and it peeks the larger picture here, which is instead of really trying to be a good person, it just always seems like the attention is still on him and he doesn't mind that it overshadows other golfers. >> rafer, stay with you. how will the media treat him? the first thyme he takes that podium you have to go for the jugular, right, although he's not going to answer.
6:06 pm
>> at a place like augusta, i think that he'll see a golf writer ask him a golf-related question and they might follow it from there. maybe a question or two but he's not going to answer it because that's what he's been doing so far and i think the problem is, it's not going to remove him from the current situation. which is, people want to know about his personal life. he hasn't really spoken about it, and he will continue to be followed on that sfwhies rafer, you'll be there at augusta. i know that you'll go for the tough questions. >> reporter: mike, i want to ask him some questions but at same time be respectful. this is my take on it this a professional and a personal comeback. he has allowed us in a little bit, a window, into his personal recovery. told us he is in rehab -- or rather he is in therapy to be specific. at this specific, what are you willing to share with us about that personal recovery? you've already let us in. you already know what you are dealing with. what are you going to tell us about it? because if you can reclaim your life and win your wife back, then you can win your fans back, then you can win your sponsors
6:07 pm
back. they are intertwined, mike. they're not mutually exclusive so i hope that he doesn't think that he can go forward trying to separate them completely. >> let's get i call in. ernestean's with us from maryland. your thoughts? >> caller: hi. >> hey. >> caller: first of all, i don't agree with what he did, but i don't think anyone has a right to shoot at someone's private life. if it were pertaining to his professional life i could understand that. but private means private. unless he went on tv and spilled what he had done, then he's out for scrutiny. but unless he did that to snoop, not unless everyone else who does something wrong, they want their life posted on tv, but what they've done, no one is perfect. >> right -- thanks for the call. he did eye mean he gave the mea culpa. the cat's out of the bag at this point and we know what we know. a facebook poll, go to our facebook page, will you be
6:08 pm
rooting for tiger woods or not? at this point, 43% of you. 57% of you will not. want to hear from you so call in 1-877-tell-hln.
6:09 pm
6:10 pm
hey, it's -- it's tiger. i need you to do me a huge favor. um, can you please take your name off of my phone? my wife went through my phone and made me call you. if you can, please take your name off that. and just have it as a number on
6:11 pm
the voicemail. just have it as your telephone number okay? you have to do this for me, huge, quickly. all right, bye." >> all right that's what got party started the alleged e-mail -- or the alleged voicemail from the alleged mistress, jamie grubbs. you guys are weighing in on facebook in a big way. lisa writes "all a joke with hill, his girls, the girls that he cheated with." thomas writes "i will root and watch if someone slams him into the water." one more from courtney "she is rooting for him so maybe he can get back on track with golf, faith and family." our facebook poll question, you are going to be rooting for tiger or is not right now 43% say you will root for him. 57% of you say, no. and i think that, ryan, that's a huge difference, obviously we took that poll before this all happened. 80%, 90%. he was revered by anybody because when we heard the name tiger woods, we thought of good man, family man, arguably the
6:12 pm
greatest golfer in the world and now we hear of tiger we think of something else. >> if you're just a golfer it's one thing but you're selling yourself as a person -- as a person. a personality. that's what made you the number one athlete in this world and so at this point, people are now looking at him a little bit differently. he will always be a great golfer. but the question is, who do you want to be? do you want to be that great person again? do you you want little kids walk up and say, i want to be like tiger woods. that's the issue here and i think that your viewers are saying it. might not cheer him but question is will they see him as a good person and that makes people cheer a little bit less. >> the great thing at that mea culpa, apology press conference, he made a special point to apologize to the family, families of kids who as you said, ryan, looked up to him. i want to listen to a sound bite again from that kprerchs. it's about when he does return to golf. and he eludes at the end of this about how he will behave on the course. let's watch that. >> i do plan to return to golf
6:13 pm
one day. i just don't know when that day will be. i don't rule out that it will be this year. when i do return, i need to make my behavior more respectful of the game. >> okay because we know -- and i hope he does because we've seen tiger woods -- and i know that's the part of his competitive fire but i know we also want to see a changed man, rafer. i don't want to see him out there cussing and throwing clubs. do you think that we'll she from tiger? >> reporter: yeah and you know what he'll have to clean that up because you're absolutely right, mike. people who don't follow golf, may not realize, you but the slightest noise would distract him, cause him to go off on the galleries. well, he'll be hearing noises. hear it at the masters, probably not. because that's a very limited access tournament even from a fan's standpoint. it's tough to go in there and if you do get in there you getting to pay thousands of dollars to get in there. he will have to clean up his behavior and he's definitely going to be facing -- that's what's so interesting to be on
6:14 pm
this tournament. what's going to happen after this? yeah this is going to be a control environment. how will he do? but after this, what's going to happen when the circus comes to town, the pga tour says they are gearing up right now for the logistical nightmare that will be the media requests that will be coming in from all over to follow this man every tournament he plays from here on out. it's going to be the story outside of the story, the coverage of him and his golf game. >> and we wonder how fans are going to react to the augusta. yes we expect a special decorum at the masters. they pay thousand for these badg badges. last hour we talked about those practice rounds, monday, tuesday, wednesday a little bit more open. ryan smith, i see you nodding your head. >> yes he's going to get some heckling and this is -- i hate to say this but he and his representatives have brought this on himself. if he would have said, some be
6:15 pm
up-front with people, people want to forgive. hey, tiger woods, we love you, we love you as i golfer, as a person. we want to forgive. he chose this route so now what will happen is those practice rounds will be very interesting to see. what's funnier, mike, if he wins in tournament there's even more attention. so if you win you get attention, if you lose you get attention and he's looking to get away from the attention. i don't get it. tune up would have solved this. telling exactly what happened would have helped it but now he's going right to the masters and all the attention. >> a call in, rich's with us from hawaii. rich, your thoughts? >> caller: yeah, hey, no, i just wanted to say this is classic twigs. he's selfish, arrogant. obviously nothing's changed. the sad thing this is completely overshadowing such a great event happening on sunday. ernie els, a real true family guy. >> hey, thanks for the call. everybody wants in on this. i think another call was trying to chime in. rafer, gets back to the tradition of augusta. about 30 seconds. let you wrap it up.
6:16 pm
>> reporter: yeah and that's absolutely right. speaking to what that caller said. i mean imagine if you were buying diet coke thinking it had no sugar, calories all of this time and then you found out it was loaded with calories. that's what tiger woods did. he sold us a certain way, and it was a fake. and people are upset about it. he is not doing a service by trying to control the media. as ryan said, everybody likes a good comeback story, as long as you let us in on it. just sit down, just tell us what really happened. be honest and we will welcome you back, tiger. don't keep trying to spin and control. >> we'll see if that day comes. guys, thanks so much. ryan, rafer. hln we're all over this story. janewill have more on and en it happens rafes going to be there.

right now there's a frantic search in washington state for a mother and her 8-year-old son. she and her little son, they were last seen saturday and then this eerie discovery. their fan found partially

i own a small law firm and i'm a much better lawyer than i am an accountant. so, when i wasn't getting paid as quickly as i would like, i did what came naturally. i threatened to sue. turns out, that's not the best way to keep clients. so i went looking for answers online at openforum.com it's a place where i can talk with other small business owners like thomas and connie and learn about tools like acceptpay. it's a new way to bill online that can help me get paid much faster, without the need for any legal intimidation, which gives me a warm fuzzy feeling... sort of like these super comfortable socks made from the soft, supple wool of alpacas. looking good. thank you. owners are asking questions.
6:30 pm
owners are getting answers. and american express open is building the tools they need. tools like acceptpay, which lets owners take their accounts receivable online. acceptpay. invoice digitally. get paid faster. only from american express open. how does a five-hour flight from los angeles to new york turn into a 16-hour nightmare? that's what we're trying to find out. now, there's video inside of virgin america flight 404 which left california saturday about 7:00 in the morning. that's 10:30 a.m. eastern. it was supposed to land jfk airport, new york. that afternoon at 3:35. about five hours. but the winds were too strong to land. it circled jfk for a couple hours then diverted 90 miles away at stewart airport. that's where it sat on the tarmac for hours. the airlines say it took about four and a half hours and the passengers say close to seven
6:31 pm
hours, close to midnight they got off and put on a bus and then a 2 and a half hour ride to jfk. they arrive 3:00 a.m. eastern. that last hour went to daylight savings time, not much solace there for these passengers. in all their flight 11 hours late and they plane took off empty and the empty plane gets to jfk before they did, a little salt in the wound there. we'll take your calls on this 1-877-tell-hln. joining us, david martin, a passenger, he took the video that we're about to see on this flight. david, describe what it was like in there. >> it was pretty hectic, at times, and at times it was really fun. it was like a roller-coaster for the 13, 16 hours stuck in the plane. >> you said fun? trying to make the best of it. >> trying to make the best of it. we had a couple of passengers a that were pretty in good spirits, we are socializing, updating our social networks that contained twitter and facebook and we wanted to make sure that we put a positive spin on what was a pretty negative situation.
6:32 pm
>> okay let's watch. again, you took this video. we've got about a 40-second clip. kind of give us a feel what it was like in there. let's watch it. >> at this point the captain has told me that the jfk is currently closed. winds gusting over 60 miles an hour on the runways so there is nothing going in or leaving new york. >> land area here where we will not be able to get off the airplane. they're going to mustair stair up to give us the paperwork. the weather here through new york i have make a phone call and i'll give you an update. i wanted to give you the story. >> going into kennedy. so we're going to look at the weather here every, like, five minutes once we see that the winds are starting to die down because it's supposed to here in the next half hour to 45 minutes. thanks for your patience, again. you guys have been great and i'll keep you guys updated. >> david other than the crew sounds, or the voice there sounds pretty polite. did the crew handle this well or what. >> one thing the video is contained.com. not youtube.com. but what happened. the captain came on, he gave a
6:33 pm
lot of different explanations of what's going on. some of the passengers were a little bit frazzled, more than others. so we had a couple of hectic situations where some people they get off the aircraft, approximately you know two hours after sitting on the tarmac naturally. the problem was the stewart international airport superricer that was pretty aggressive came up to the front the airplane and wouldn't let anyone off. it was virgin who let the people off when we went through a rough patch and they wanted to get food and water to the passengers but they couldn't get anything because this supervisor wasn't really helping out. >> a statement from virgin america, what they're saying "the aircraft was held at stewart airport for 4 1/2 hours. during this time, water was provided for guest and guests had the ability to leave the aircraft throughout the holt to enter the airport. several guests 20 of the 126 did in fact leave the aircraft. five additional cases of water were deliver to the aircraft. food was limited and we did run out on board at about the
6:34 pm
two-hour mark, again the guests did have the option to least plane and enter the the airport." so were you able to get off the airplane or not. >> let me correct that, water was delivered court avenues jetblue because it wasn't a virgin american airport, it was a jetblue airport. passengers did eventually get off the plane after you know we had to go through a lot of arguments with the supervisor of the stewart international airport. >> how long did that take before th they let you off. >> several hours. >> several? >> the first five passengers got off. and then 16 or so off of the plane. then they said look no one else is getting off. you're stuck here, not moving. so that kind sucked, right? >> yeah it would seems. the way that i'm reading the story it sound like you are able to, everyone could get off if you wanted. >> no, no. >> get off the plane, get something to eat. >> no, no and not the fault of virgin america, that was the fault of stewart international airport, believe me. >> the end game is you end up riding the bus for a couple of hours, finally end up at jfk.
6:35 pm
a full refund, plus, what, $100. you talk to the ceo. you are okay or a beef with anybody? >> no, no ra lot of us are not angry about the situation at all. we're happy that social media like contain.com and update like the ceo of an airline is able to see what's going on so you don't have to write a letter, complaint. they come to you. that's what we're happy about and i think that passengers have tremendous respect for the fact that they want a refund and move forward. when i talked to the ceo, i said ceo, lead by example, make sure that we learn from this situation, and go ah in the future, i think that our virgin america are going to be at the top of the game here like they have been since they started. >> okay, david, thanks for the video. thanks for your insight. i mean we can all relate being on a plane that long can be hell. so we appreciate your story. thanks so much. coming up, tough talk from john edwards' former aide andrew young. he's got plenty to say about rielle huntir. we had plenty to say about her yesterday. again the woman who had the
6:36 pm
affair with john edwards? >> you know at the same time that she was dating john edwards she was also dating jeff goldbloom and left jeff gold bloom to believe it was his baby as well. >> how about that jab? hunter taking that jab from andrew young. she fired a few shots in the "gq" article and she's also suing him so he's firing a back. a rielle hunter versus andrew young.
6:37 pm
6:38 pm
6:39 pm
john edwards' mistress just gave her first interview to "gq" magazine and we knew it would be a talker but this is taking a life on its own. first it was these provocative photos that really got our attention. cozzing up top barney, kermit the frog, dora the explorer but listen to some the quotes in this interview. she talks about elizabeth edwards "i have so much compassion for her but it's also
6:40 pm
sad to me her unwillingness to take responsibility for her part in the marriage and her unwillingness to face the truth." and this is a big warnings quote, talking about john edwards, he in fact did say to me the first night falling in love with you could really "f" up plans for become president. wow and then this one a slam at edwards' former aide andrew young she says quote -- so johnny was the third person in their relationship. now here's young's response to all that. an interview with hln's joy behar. >> i love john edwards. i believed in john edwards and i clearly believed in the causes he expoused. but the reason i worked as hard for john edwards was because i wanted a brighter future for my wife and for my kids and for everybody else. i truly believed in those
6:41 pm
causes. but to say they love john edwards more than my family is just ridiculous. >> well, she's implying that you were gay, i think. that's what she's implying, that sounds like that to me. >> well, you know i can -- well i will not say that i might get into some trouble. i don't think that there is any doubt of anybody who knows me that you am not gay. and to quote that old "seinfeld" line, not that there is anything wrong with it. >> 1-877-tell-hln is the number. sort through some of this our psychotherapist stacy kaiser. welcome back. young taking the shot -- or getting the shot from rielle hunter. do you see some unhealthy devotion from john edwards to andrew zbloung he did claim he was willing to take the fall and say he was the father of the baby there. >> i do think that it was unhealthy devotion but it does not mean that he's in love with him. >> yeah. >> it is very typical for people who are trying to climb in a work environment to do whatever it takes to keep their job and he may be willing to do. >> young firing back, throwing
6:42 pm
out on the cbs "early show" basically saying that rielle hunter is getting the money to pay for all of her lawyers from john edwards. let's watch. >> i think john edwards is telling rielle and elizabeth whatever he needs to tell them to make them to do what he wants them to do. >> you are saying that you believe that he is still in touch with her. >> very much so, yes. >> why? >> well, last week i was in court being attacked by at least seven corporate lawyers and if she can't afford to pay for a $1,500 house i don't know how she's paying hundred and thousands of lawyers to put me through paces for two, three weeks. >> so you are saying that you believe that john edwards is not only still in touch with her but possibly paying her legal fees? >> i can't think of anyone else who would do it other than him. >> quite an allegation there. and they're in court because of this alleged sex tape that andrew young, the judge believes, he might have retain a copy of all of that. through all of this though, stacy, rielle hunter believes that john edwards, johnny again as he calls him, still loves
6:43 pm
her, she loves him. what do you make of that? what do you think that john swaurds going through as you watch in unfold. >> what i want to tell you is she was no one before him and she very much has her identity tied connected to him. and i think that's part of why she continues to talk about their love and their romance and how close they are. and as for john, well, if it's true, that's a whole are story. but if it's not you know he's just continuing to have put into his face what he did wrong. >> yeah, let's get a call in. neil's with us from arizona. hey, neil, your thoughts on all of this? neil? neil, you with us? no, neil. call in, 1-877-tell-hln's the number. let's listen now to lace di paulo. she did the interview for "gq" magazine and she insists that -- i'm talking about rielle hunter telling her, di palo that john edwards is no liar. let's listen to. >> >> i said you know, rielle right now a lot of people in america thinks that he's
6:44 pm
probably one of the most untruthful men in america. he -- we know he tried his wife. you know he lied to his staff and to the country. you don't think that he lies to you? and she said, he doesn't lie to to me. she believes that. >> what do we have there, stacy, the minding of a mistress that he's going to be truthful to her, all of a sudden. >> you know i think that there's two things working. first of all, anybody who is willing to vana, for a and end up with crumbes in a relationship is somebody who has low self-esteem and so she's going to believe what he says. but i also think there's another component. and that is, that she was the special one. she was on the inside. he was telling her the truth about their relationship, supposedly. and so she still thinks that she's on the inside. >> wow couple of facebooks to wrap up. mike writing "she is the other woman and the homewrecker, not victim." daf darla write it's pretty insightful stuff there. stacy, great to you have above. coming up this -- we'll be talking about tiger
6:45 pm
woods. his return. here's the question to you, is it too soon? we'll hit that on a couple of fronts. what do you think? i'll bring in my colleague jane velez-mitchell. she says, yes, it is too soon for a comeback. >> i had affairs. i cheated. what i did is not acceptable. and i am the only person to blame.

welcome back to "prime news" hln. we're picking a car chase and on queue we're zooming in on the vehicle in question here. midwest city, oklahoma. outside of oklahoma city. there is, it looks like a dark-gray silver vehicle. and you saw the police cars that were in hot pursuit. we're not sure how this started. we're just getting this into us from our affiliate kwtv. right now we believe this is about 50, 60 miles an hour, that's what we're following here as this silver vehicle is leading a parade, it looks like, police vehicles. we're going to get you the most information on this, as to what started this. there you see the right front tire out. so you wonder how long can a car like this go. well, again, they can go as long as they have gas, we will say that. how effective can they be?
6:49 pm
that's where it might get a little easier with authorities when you are working with somebody who has a no right front tire, might be easier to get around them. use the pit maneuver to spin them off a little bit or throw out spike strips in front of them and disable a vehicle that way. again a car chase just getting word of this. this is midwest city, oklahoma, just outside of oklahoma city. we'll get you more information as it comes into us, as to how this started. why we're in this situation now. it looked like there was five or six police vehicles following in the back. right now we're getting live shot there. it looks like two police vehicles following. mike brooks joins us now, hln law enforcement analyst, an expert on these types of situations. mike, we're trying to get more information but you see now, it looks like two lane, mountain road. start there, you have to be extra careful with something like, this right? >> absolutely, mike. the normal technique, they're trying to do a pit maneuver, something like that, may not work on something like this
6:50 pm
because you see, not much road to work with. abo it did look like the right front tire was going down -- >> it's out, mike. >> not thick tires, it's kind of low profile. >> yeah that right front tire is out and this is a like a closeu there. seemed somewhat calm, both hands on the wheel, mike. >> yeah, she has her hands at 10 and 2. i was going to say right when we first looked at this, it looked like a female driver. but i can tell you, mike, she's not going to have too much steering, you know, with that front tire, on the right front without having any rubber on there. that's the problem you're going to have, especially maneuvering these windy, mountainous roads. >> with that said, windy, mountain roads. it looks like the officer is getting a little closer. when do you make your move on this, mike? >> you know, you might -- it looks like she's making a left turn here. you might just want to follow at
6:51 pm
a safe distance behind because, you know, just go ahead and wait to see how it plays out. because of that tire. so, you know, they just want to keep a safe distance because -- oh. >> okay, it looks like some smoke coming out of that vehicle when this driver made the turn. so police vehicles still in pursuit. somewhat at a safe distance right now. it looks like multiple car. so a two-lane road like this, does that make your job more difficult? >> no, it almost makes it a little bit easier, being on a road like this. the police cruiser is a better performance vehicle than that vehicle she has now without that right front tire. because that's all you're steering right there, mike. so, you know what, just go ahead and keep a safe distance. you i've got an air unit, you've got ground units, coordinate everything from there and let it play out. >> we're going to take a quick break. we'll be watching through the
6:52 pm
break. if anything happens, we'll bring it to you. keep it right here. eeeeeee
