arrested a man they are linking to the death of 7-year-old sommer thompson. gerald harrell already in custody. he has been charged with the young girl's murder. thompson disappeared on her way home from school last october. her body was found two days later in a landfill. at a news conference yesterday, the girl's mother called harroll a monster. >> he had an impulse, and he too something away from me that no one will get back to me. i never liked mondays, but as far as i'm concerned, there will be no mondays in my life, because that's the day my life ended. >> so devastating for the mother. dna taken from harroll and other evidence placed him at the scene where the young girl was killed. rescuers are looking for survivors in the hull of this sunken ship right here. the south korean warship went

fishing line. there is not a good prognosis unless something is done and fast. a team is on stand by in case the whale is spotted. how is it looking, reynolds? >> a pretty interesting forecast. last week, the official beginning of spring and yet winter is still holding on in parts of the central rockies. the map, a line of areas shaded in green and parts of grand junction, colorado, even areas of red. winter storm warnings and advisories in effect for some places in the rockies. could see up to a foot of snowfall today. here is the reason why. scattered snow showers and area of low pressure will bring moisture way back into the rockies, and as it falls through the lower layer of the atmosphere, they could receive a foot of snowfall. look for storms in parts of arkansas in the late afternoon hours. little rock, west memphis, might

authorities in florida have arrest sfd man they are linking to the death of 7-year-old somer thompson. jared harrell was already in custody on child pornography charges. he has now been charged with the young girl's murder. thompson disappeared on her way home from school last october. her body was found two days later in a landfill. at a news conference yesterday, the girl's mother called harrell a monster. >> he had an impulse and he took something away from me that no one will ever be able to give back to me. i never liked mondays, but as far as i'm concerned, there will be no mondays in my life. because that's the day my life ended. >> so devastating for the mother. authorities say dna taken from harrell and also other evidence placed him at the scene where that young girl was killed. at least 100 guns were stolen from this gun shop in

it is still unclear why, but a south korean news agency quotes military officials who say an explosion punched a hole in the ship. >> the ship was the called the "choenan," we had 104 crew members aboard. apparently 58 men have been rescued which means 46 still missing. it's unseasonably cold in korea, at the moment and last night when the incident occurred there were actually snow flurries. so these are very, very negative conditions for any men who might be still in the water. i should add that we are having reports of three-meter high seas, divers have apparently been dispatched. we have seen only one photograph been released of the incident and that shows, as you may have seen, a kind of an upturned hull, part of the ship is still just about on the surface of the water, which indicates that there may be crew still alive inside the hull.

of the whale yesterday and one official says the whale does not have a good prognosis unless something is done and fast. a team is on standby in case the animal is spotted. how is your weekend shaping up weatherwise? we go to meteorologist reynolds wolf. >> a pretty interesting forecast. last week, the official beginning of spring and yet winter is still holding on in parts of the central rockies. you look at the map, you're going to see a line of areas shaded in green and back in parts of grand junction, colorado, even some red. those are your winter storm warnings and advisories that could be in effect for some places in the rockies. could see up to a foot of snowfall today. here is the reason why. scattered snow showers and area of low pressure will bring moisture way back into the rockies where it's going to interact with a layer of very cold area and as it falls through the lower layer of the atmosphere they could see a foot of snowfall. look for storms in parts of arkansas in the late afternoon hours. little rock, west memphis, might have rough weather to deal with. maybe some strong thunderstorms, heavy rainfall.

not have a good prognosis unless something is done and fast. a team is on standby in case the animal is spotted. so how is your weekend shaping up weatherwise? we go to meteorologist reynolds wolf to find out. how is it looking? >> pretty interesting forecast for you because last weekend was the official beginning of spring. and yet, winter is still holding on to parts of the central rockies. you look at the map you're going to see a line of area shaded in green and back into parts of grand junction, colorado, even some red. those are your winter storm warnings and advisories that will be in effect. some places into the rockies could see up to a foot of snowfall today. and here's the reason why. you've got, of course, the scattered snow showers. this area of low pressure here is going to bring some moisture way back into the rockies where it's going to interact with a layer of very cold air. as it falls through the lower layer of the atmosphere they could see up to a foot of snow fall. other than that a chance of severe storms in parts of arkansas today, especially into the late afternoon hours. little rock even over to west memphis, you might have rough weather to deal with.

kentucky's governor offered his condolen condolences. president obama's second nominee for the transportation security chief is calling it quits. major general robert harding withdrew himself from the nomination yesterday. he blamed what he called distractions caused by his work as a defense contractor. he admitted he made mistakes when his former company overbilled the government in 2004. the issue was later settled, and investigators concluded there was no fraud. the first nominee, errol southers, withdrew after a controversy over an old personal matter. authorities in florida have arrested a man they are linking to the death of 7-year-old somer thompson. jarred harrell was already in custody on child pornography charges. he has now been charged with the young girl's murder. thompson disappeared on her way home from school last october. her body was found two days later in a landfill. at a news conference yesterday, the girl's mother called harrell a monster. >> he had an impulse, and he took something away from me that no one will ever be able to give back to me.

general motors has just announced a recall with very important warning about 5,000 heavy duty vans because of an engine fire risk. the recall involves chevrolet express and gmc savannah passenger and cargo vans that were built in february and march of this year. in a statement, gm urges customers to stop driving the vans and park them outside, away from buildings and other cars. people are also being told to disconnect both battery cables if at all possible. production and sale of the recalled vans will be stopped until gm can fix what is believed to be a faulty alternator. a california high school student is taking vice president joe biden to task for using a bad word. he was caught whispering the word in president obama's ear this week, before the signing of the newly passed health care bill. here it is. >> ladies and gentlemen, the president of the united states of america, barack obama. this is a big [ bleep ] deal. >> thank you. thank you, everybody.
