good morning bright and early. if you're up earlier than normal i bet it's because of your taxes. i'm robin meade. morning, sunshine. it looks like police brought h haleigh cummings' former stepmom to the river. authorities are questioning a relative in the case for the third time. there are reports that tiger woods' wife is angry about him returning to golf. who is saying that a divorce is now eminent. hundreds of thousands of people who have lost their jobs and an important safe net could get a lifeline back today.

first it is tax day today. maybe you're holding your nose finishing up your taxes. some americans are getting ready to protest but get this, taxes are lower this year. taxes for middle class families anyway are basically as low as they've been in 50 years. still, in a new cnn poll, most of you say feel like your tax dollars are being wasted. here's where the money goes. mostly to defense, social security and health care, 14% is for safety net programs, that's unemployment and help for lower income families. there's money for vets and interest on the debt. that leaves 13% for everything else including education, protecting the environment, scientific research, infrastructure and food and drug safety. >> we don't want any more bailouts, no more stimulus bills. we are taxed enough already. so we're out here fighting for everybody else to take our message and your message to washington, d.c. >> in a few hours, tea party

activists outraged about tax spending are said to rally across the united states. expect a big announcement about the movement's political goals this year. that story is coming up in about 15 minutes. it appears that authorities brought haleigh cummings' former stepmom in handcuffs to a river they've been searching for two days now. mis misty croslyn has been in custody on unrelated drugs charges. she denies any role in haleigh's disappearance. florida authorities flew to tennessee to question her cousin, overstreet for the third time. he was in the area when haleigh was reported missing and here's what he had to say. >> i can't imagine what they're going through. i didn't do it. >> you didn't do it? >> no. >> do you know who did? >> if i knew who did, i would call the police and tell the

cops who did it. >> the putnam county sheriff's office is not commenting on any possible developments. they have not named any suspects in the 5-year-old's disappearance. croslin who was briefly married to haleigh's father, has said that she woke up at 3:00 a.m. that night to find haleigh missing and the back door propped open. authorities say it's unlikely that a stranger took her. a group of veteran astronauts is upset about president obama's new plan to overhaul nasa. now the president will unveil it today, while trying to reassure nasa workers. he's expected to emphasize job creation and private missions, but it also cancels a manned space flight program. neil armstrong and others say that would make the united states second or even third rate in space programs. tiger woods may have lost more than just a golf tournament at the masters. ray is in now for rafer with a report that tiger's marriage could be coming to an end. hi there, rafer. >> good morning to you, robin.

"people" magazine reporting that tiger's decision to play in the masters may have been the final straw for elin a cording to the magazine a friend says elin is furious over tiger's return to golf and although she has yet to take any legal action, another friend told "people" magazine she wouldn't be surprised if nordegren files for divorce soon. of course, elin was a no show at augusta. in the article, one friend was quoted as saying she wouldn't have gone near the masters under any condition. robin it doesn't end there. wait until you hear elin's reaction to tiger's controversial nike ad. >> that's interesting that point, thank you. people are still digging in the rubble with their hands for any survivors, after yesterday's big quake in china. chinese tv reports more than 1,000 people have been pulled from collapsed buildings. that's after a 6.9 magnitude quake hit near the tibet border. more than 600 people have been killed. thousands have been hurt. hospitals are overwhelmed, and

there are few doctors or supplies. get this -- a new document released in the rod blagojevich corruption case points a sordid picture of his time as illinois governor. it gives details on extortion and kickback allegations dating back to his 2002 election. it also accuses him of diverting tens of thousands of dollars to his wife, once he realized he was being investigated. blagojevich maintains his innocence and says there is nothing new in the document. in between tapings of reality tv shows. i kid, i kid. >> right. >> you know it doesn't help his case either, no, nothing new, diverting funds, extortion, nothing new. >> old hat. >> that's nothing, that's old news. five minutes after the hour, it's tax day. did you know that the biggest mistake people make is not signing their returns? so maybe if you're sitting at the kitchen counter, you might want to to that. >> is that right? >> yes. >> misspelling your name, anything like that? then you don't get credit.

tea party activists are going to rally across the united states today, a big message for their movement is fiscal responsibility and reducing the size of the government. so let's talk with correspondent richard lui now. good morning. >> good morning to you, robin. >> so how do they want to get that beyond the protests? >> they make no bones about it here, robin. the name of the tour, the just vote them out tour and they want lawmakers basically voted out who support excessive spending. listen to their party favorite here. >> so the people in boston and all across the u.s. we're sending a message to washington

that come november that big government, big debt obama-pelosi-reid spending spree, that their little children we're here to take care of you, that agenda is over, we're voting them out, you're fired. >> also a move is made to attract supporters and is it t is having an impact. >> the talk though about how this movement has affected what's going on in politics, the landscape. >> so far, robin, as we allude to the impact, tea party candidates running for office have yet to make a large impact in republican primaries specifically. democratic house majority leader steny hoyer says the tea party movement is affecting some lawmakers' decisions about whether to run for another term. you remember congressman bart stupak, a key last-minute yes vote on the heal care bill. stupak insisting pressure from tea party activists did not affect his decision to retire so both sides of that. robin, they are naming names as well today, who they're

endorsing and who they are opposing in a few hours. >> richard, thank you so much. appreciate it. >> sure. we have a story coming up about who the tea party folks are in general. a man accused of robbing a burger king at gunpoint used a drive-thru window to get away. surveillance cameras caught him walking in through the front door waving a gun. after he gets the cash he realizes oops, somebody set off the alarm and the front door was locked by then. so he dove out the drive-thru window. michigan state police are still looking for this guy. nfl commissioner roger goodell says he'll decide soon on whether to punish ben roethlisberger for his off-field actions. ray's in for rafer this morning. i guess my question is how can he punish him if we're talking about an alleged incident at a nightclub in georgia when we don't have any findings.

>> there's no criminal charges pursued here but keep in mind these players do have moral clauses in their contract and that's the big question, did roethlisberger here violate that morals clause? these two met on monday and roethlisberger called the meeting very productive and roger goodell agrees a peering at a steelers function last night. the commissioner thinks roethlisberger understands how important the personal conduct policy is to the nfl. goodell adding the league will continue to go over the information available and will make a decision on roethlisberger sometime in the near future. again, the two men on tuesday a day after it was announced that charges would not be filed against roethlisberger in the alleged sexual assault of a 20-year-old college student. roethlisberger faces a civil suit that alleges he sexually assaulted a different woman in nevada. how about a big shout out to pro golfer ernie els. according to "the palm beach post" els was relaxing poolside, he noticed a group of disabled iraqi veterans getting off a fishing boat.

okay, how are you coming with your taxes? time is running out, because this is april 15th, and in a new cnn/opinion research poll, about half of the folks think that the tax system is unfair. 4 out of 10 say that you're angry about how much you pay in taxes. it looks like investigators brought haleigh cummings' former stepmother to the river that they have been searching. we don't know if misty croslin said anything. she's denied any involvement in the disappearance. foreclosure filings have spiked big time this year. we've seen more than 930,000 for

>> it's going to affect somebody, robin, because votes are going away from wherever they're coming from. the answer to your question depends on who you ask. representative michele bachmann saying the tea party and the gop are merging together. >> it's really merging into one single solitary unit. a number of tea party groups from around the country are coming together, unifying under the umbrella of economic fiscal conservativeism, because americans quite simply feel like they're taxed enough already. >> all right not everyone agrees with that. the chairman of the tea party express3 tour says "i got more knife wounds in my back from republican operatives than democrats could ever do," and adds the democrats stand there and tell me they hate me and tell me that they hate america. these republicans smile at me, shake my hand and then stab me in the back." so it looks like we have opinions on both sides. >> the activists are upset about what they call excessive

government spending. there's a new spending report. we have some numbers to latch on today. >> you know what we got for you, robin, the congressional pig book. love it! it shows you where the government is spending some of your tax dollars, citizens against government waste, they released it every year. here are the high or lowlights. about $5 million for wood utilization research in 11 timber states requested by 13 senators and 10 representatives. there's this one, democratic yvette clarke requested $400,000 for safety improvements at the brooklyn botanic garden. that's some of them. >> you trip over flowers? i'm not sure. >> you got to be careful. >> i'm sure they're legitimate. you can see people who are served by those get excited about what people call the pork barrel spending, while the rest of america goes, hey, how does that help me? >> stop the squealing is what they're saying. >> richard, thank you. >> sure. the man who rescued an 11-year-old girl lost in a

"consumer reports" called the gx460 unsafe to drive, jennifer? >> toyota will safety test all of hits suvs, basically doing damage control after the story where "consumer reports" found a rollover problem with one of their top of the line cars, the lexus gx460 suv, one ever their most expensive vehicles, cost about $60,000. so they really want to protect it. yesterday toyota told dealers to stop selling the suv for awhile before it runs tests. it wants to restore trust in toyota and luxe ris lexus brand because it makes so much money in that brand. they got to sell ten corollas to make what they make on one lexus according to auto researchers. the dow jumped to a new high amid a recovery, nowhere near our old highs but we'll take it,

♪ police are trying to figure out how a third grader got 60 bags of heroin he started passing out at school in pennsylvania. police say the kid handed out the bags before a teacher found out. there's no evidence that any of the kids ingested the drugs. police contacted the boy's parents and the school september a letter about the incident home with the other kids. new this morning, mazda has

involved in two alleged sexual assaults in the past eight months. roger goodell was like, that's it. we need to bring this guy in to talk. he thinks roethlisberger understands how important the personal conduct ipolicy is to the nfl. these guys do have moral clauses in their contract. goodell adding that the league will go over the information available and will make a decision on roethlisberger some time in the near future. now, again, the two met on tuesday, a day after it was announced that charges would not be filed against roethlisberger in the alleged sexual assault of a 20-year-old college student. roethlisberger, however, still faces a civil suit that alleges he sexually assaulted a different woman in nevada and roethlisberger denies the accusati accusations. just say no to tobacco. they want products like dip and chewing tobacco banned during games. you may have noticed it is already banned in the minor

new this morning, a volcanic eruption in iceland is causing a lot of canceled flights today. aviation officials closed the air space over the uk for six hours because of volcanic ash. other airports in europe are warning of possible cancilations. that volcano erupted yesterday for the second time in less than a month. tea party activists are using this tax day, april 15th, by the way, to spread their message across the country today. they're going to push for fiscal responsibility and reducing the size of the government at a number of rallies. now, correspondent richard lui is joining us. i mean, it's a good day to push for fiscal responsibility when you feel like you're paying in. >> a lot of us paying on this tax day. folks are pretty upset on the tea party express and what they want to do, they want to try to make a change. the question is, who might it hurt? well, it depends on who you ask. representative michele bachmann saying, hey, you know, the tea

everybody else to take our message and your message to washington, d.c. >> all right. we have live pictures of some of those folks right now getting ready in washington, d.c. tea party activists are expected to hold rallies across the united states today. this hour in d.c. a tea party group is naming the candidates that they are endorsing for elections in november. in about 30 minutes you're going to hear how the tea party movement may change another political party. it appears that authorities brought haleigh cummings former step mom in handcuffs to the river that they have been searching for two days. misty croslin was baby-sitting when haleigh disappeared. croslin has been in custody on unrelated drug charges. she denies any role in the 5-year-old's disappearance. meanwhile florida authorities flew to tennessee to question croslin's cousin, named joe overstreet, for the third time. he was in the area when haleigh was reported missing.

cesar chavez day. that was a labor leader, a mexican labor leader holiday that is celebrated mostly in western states. for the second day in a row corporate earnings are strong. u.p.s. first quarter profit jumped more than 30%. shipping volume grew for the first time in two years. u.p.s. is also a good indicator of the whole economy because it carries packages literally for every industry and shares are up 5.75%.
