cigarettes and outrage aimed at "south park" from radicals who support osama bin laden. hello, i'm a.j. hammer coming to you from new york city. >> hi there, everyone i'm brooke anderson in hollywood. big news breaking today, judging kate winner or loser. >> brooke, i'm not exactly sure who was more relieved she was finally kicked off "dancing with the stars," the millions of people forced to watch her awful dancing week after week or perhaps kate herself. because "showbiz tonight" did some serious digging today and discovered kate may actually turn out to be a big winner by being such a big loser. yeah, yeah, i know what you're thinking, how could she be a winner by losing? let me make some sense of it for
5:02 pm
you. today, half the nation is in mourning. >> ohhh. >> and the other half is cheering. [ cheering ] >> kate and tony. >> kate gosselin is finally off "dancing with the stars." just minutes after she was eliminated, shobts shoib"showbi caught up with kate who thanked her fans. >> thank you to all of our viewers and voters who gave us the opportunity because that's really why we were still here. >> but now that the dance has ended "showbiz tonight" can tell you today kate gosselin finds herself in an interesting spot, the controversial time on "dancing with the stars" has made this mother of eight more loved and more hated than ever. kate gosselin made a big splash when first announced as a contestant on "dancing with the stars." >> i have eight children to provide for. >> she told everyone including "the today show" she was going on to support her kids.
5:03 pm
>> i'm enjoying what i'm doing and thankful for the opportunities i can provide for my kids. >> moms across the country identified with kate and voted for her to stay on "dancing with the stars." >> suddenly, it was the fans that kept kate on the show, the moms who wanted her to triumph and keep dancing week after week. >> still, kate suffered from one little problem. >> kate gosselin may be one of the worst "dancing with the stars" contestants we've ever seen. >> her lack of dancing skills earned her grief from judges. >> it wasn't very good, kate. and i'm sorry. >> she's an angry [ bleep ] this one. >> and as early as yesterday, the kate question was still splitting the hosts of "the view" into two warring factions, the anti-kate faction. >> she sucks! she's got to go. >> and the pro-kate faction. >> she is a single mom trying to take care of her kids, doing what she's got to do.
5:04 pm
>> reports of her difficult behavior behind the scenes didn't endear her to the masses. >> i'm stressed. >> really? start paying attention to my teaching then. >> back-stage video showed her as a less than pleasant student. at one point her dance partner even quit. in fact, kate haters even started selling t-shirts that read "free tony" but right after their elimination, they told "showbiz tonight" all that earlier friction was water under the bridge. >> that was a lot to deal with. >> i wouldn't say that. i mean, considering everything that was going on in her life, i thought she still gave me more than i could ever ask from her. >> also today, kate is still dealing with another problem from that gig. >> while she was off dancing her ex-husband jon petitioned the court to change their agreement. >> asking for primary custody of their eight kids who claimed her time on "dancing with the stars," based in l.a., turned
5:05 pm
her into an absentee mom to kids who live in pennsylvania. some viewers shared his concerns. >> people thought if you are so worried about your kids should you fly across the country doing this show three days a week or at home taking care of them. >> kate and tony. >> even though she's now off "dancing with the stars," she's still plenty busy. >> kate says her next steps to go home and spend more time with her kids. we'll have to see if that happens with her new tv show coming up, promoting her new book. i mean, she may still be away from her eight. >> thank you for believing me -- in me. >> whether more hated or more loved than ever before, one thing is certain, kate gosselin is dancing into the sunset a bigger star than ever. there you have it. all laid out. good things for kate and bad things for kate. did "dancing with the stars" make kate a winner or loser? think about that. we have fired-up folks ready to have at it in the great kate

debate on "showbiz tonight." for our exclusive "showbiz tonight" poll, kate gosselin, are you glad she got kicked off of "dancing with the stars"? you can vote: or e-mail us at cnn.com. to another great debate that exploded today after michael douglas's son was sentenced to prison for dealing drugs. was this a case of celebrity justice? a new york judge just sentenced cameron douglas for dealing huge amounts of crystal meth. after cameron's father, michael, his wife and others pleaded for leniency, cameron got five years in prison. here's the thing. that was only half of what he should have gotten under federal sentencing guidelines. right now in new york vein velez-mitchell host of "issues" every night at 7:00 p.m. eastern on hln and in philadelphia, danny bon due chaduci, former c

star and now hosting a radio show. danny, beginning with you, like cameron douglas you, yourself, have spent a good part of your life battling drug addiction. do you agree with those who are outraged today, myself included, calling this a case of celebrity justice? celebrity treatment. >> no, because -- and as you, brooke, i'm sorry, you are mistaken about what happened. michael douglas writing a letter on behalf of his child did not get him five years at club fed which is half of the time he should have gotten. you know who did this, the d.a. who begged the judge for leniency because he was a police informant. you cannot put a guy like that in jail. he'd be killed. when you are in jail, the government is responsible for your health and welfare. and if they put him in jail after admitting he was a snitch, he'd have been killed within 90 days. >> but, danny, think about all
5:08 pm
the many lives, all the many families that this guy has destroyed through dealing drugs. i mean, those are the real victims here. i think drug dealers -- because people die all the time from abusing illicit drugs. so i think drug dealers in a way are essentially murderers. lock them up. >> you are mistaking me completely. i'm just telling you he didn't get celebrity treatment but from the d.a., i don't care if he catches fire. meth is the great white shark of drugs. it is the worst scourge of the earth. this guy can make big rocks into little rocks for the next 300 years. i think drug dealers should be imprisoned and stop being coddled like crazy. i just wanted to answer your question about celebrity treatment. >> thank you for doing that. he pleaded guilty to distributing large quantities of meth and cocaine and perhaps -- >> large quantities of death. >> -- listen to this, in the "new york post i've "today, a.j., i want you to tell us

about that. >> i want you to see what the columnist wrote about what she feels is celebrity treatment. she says were this man's name smith, jones or rodriguez, this would not be. so, is she dead on there? is this a case of celebrity justice or just plain old injustice? we are back in 30 seconds. that is what drives us. we are back with danny bonaduci and jane velez-mitchell. jane, do you agree with what she wrote, if cameron douglas were not the son of a celebrity he would have been thrown in prison for a really long time. >> absolutely, she's 100% correct. this is a case of celebrity justice. this was not just a user. they keep saying, oh, treatment over incarceration. i believe that but he was also a dealer as you've established and even after he was busted on dealing meth, major amounts, when he was in house arrest, his mother's fancy amountment he was caught trying to smuggle drugs in and a history of many run-ins with the law. anybody else would be doing serious hard time there. are hundreds of thousands of men behind bars as we speak serving many, many more years for far

5:17 pm
from what you see, from all of these reports, do you think lindsay needs serious help? >> she absolutely does. this is a life-and-death matter. thank got i'm not hanging out with her but every published report i've read photos of her tripping, blocked from going into clubs because of her erratic behavior. her mother is not the answer. she appears to me classic enabler, co-dependent co-signing her bad behavior and dad is not the answer either going about it way too publicly with his own set of problems and history in this regard. maybe there is a grandmother who can step in and do an intervention. >> maybe we can get you two to step in. let's take a look what her mom is saying about all this. a brand new interview out today with lindsay's mom. >> what you read in the press is completely fabricated. if a girl -- not -- any child in the business, any girl in the

i think the perception. >> sorry for interrupting. >> listen -- go ahead. >> go ahead. this is my thing, she wasn't in pain, it wasn't that she was dancing bad. she doesn't know how to dance. she was literally doing the best she could and had nothing to do with was she not giving it enough time or spending too much time with her kids, not enough time? she doesn't know how to dance, that's the whole point of the show and you have people on there that really can, dancing all their lives and there is a huge comparison. but i'm telling you she was trying her hardest. >> there have been people in the past without dance skills -- >> she was completely out of her element. it was not natural for her. she obviously was not comfortable with it but doing the best she could and, you know, i talked to her monday night and said, at least this time at least were you smiling during the dance but that did not come easy for her. she really, really had to give

to sell magazines, if she say she's great and a princess, it doesn't sell magazines, as much as like saying she's a diva and she's evil and not around her kids. she's really not that person. i have talked to her numerous nights. she is a genuine sweet girl and she loves her kids and she's working hard and to say she's addicted to fame, come on, you could say that about anyone on tv. she's trying to support her children. she is a single mother. her ex-husband, by the way, not really working. she's doing the best she can and there's nothing you can say that will change my mind. i know people love to hate her but she's a great woman. >> i don't disagree with you but on the addicted to fame thing, i mean certainly we've seen evidence of that before. she got a little taste of it and really wanted to be on tv and also, you know, i admit she realized this is probably an easier, better way to earn a lot more money to support my family but there was a lot of drama created by kate on the set of "dancing with the stars," we can't deny that and the show definitely capitalized on the fact her partner, tony, almost quit on her at the very beginning, right?
5:38 pm
"showbiz tonight" was right there on the set of "dancing with the stars" last night after kate was blown off the show. kate did freely admit to us she was a handful. watch what she said about that. >> i was a lot to deal with. >> i wouldn't say that. i mean, considering everything that was going on in her life, i thought she still gave me more than i could ever ask from her because most people would have crawled in a corner and just cried themselves, you know, to sleep. this woman still stood up, dusted herself off time and time again, every day and came to rehearsal and gave me the best she could at the time. >> rachel, i'm seeing an evolved woman, she admits she wasn't so easy to be with. i'm thinking, you know, her actually admitting that, you've got to admit you have a problem, right, her admitting that is actually a good thing and we can squarely put that one in the winner's column. can you? >> yes. >> oh. >> i think we can definitely put that in the winner's column. check one for kate, actually

>> a.j., kelly clarkson in a smokin' hot controversy today on a day of outrage, is the former "american idol" pushing a cigarette campaign with her tour. more big news just in on this day ever outrage a frightening threat against "south park" from radicals who support osama bin laden all because it dared to spoof the prophet muhammad again but this time in a bear suit. celebrity journalist and entertainment reporter. i want to begin with kelly clarkson. first, take a look at this giant billboard in the middle of jakarta indonesia promoting a concert of hers. take a look at that huge logo for a big indonesian cigarette company called "la lights." in her defense, she did not know these ads were going up and i want to ad the same thing
5:45 pm
happened to alicia keyes a couple years ago and she demanded that they be pulled. ben, i think kelly should do the same thing, get those ads pulled. what about you? >> i'm pretty sure after this controversy, her people won't let any tobacco sponsors promote her future concerts. they have to accept different countries have different values and you can't criticize them for being california on an issue like smoking. i think it is unfair to criticize her about it but i think this rey are, dare i say, cultural elitism. >> i agree, maybe sit down with her management team and figure out how they want to proceed. a.j., she posted a blog today. what did she have to say.
5:46 pm
>> i was happy to hear she did speak out about it. she said she had nothing to do with the billboards. this is what she wrote on her blog this afternoon. i was not made aware of this and am in no way an advocate or an ambassador for youth smoking. look, i have no doubt she didn't plan on this happening. she even called it a lose-lose situation. michelle, should she put her foot down about these ads? it is her tour, after all? >> i totally understand why she doesn't believe in smoking with a big voice like that she couldn't be a big smoker herself but has actually the biggest platform if she goes on in front of her fans and say, hey, smoking is bad. she has the platform to tell people what she thinks about smoking and she could just smoke her sponsors, basically. i wouldn't want her to roll out on her fans anyway. she should perform.
5:47 pm
>> yeah. buff maybe find middle ground. maybe find a replacement sponsor. i've got to move on on this day of outrage to a frightening controversy over a "south park" episode a radical islamic group supporting osama bin laden issued a warning and veiled death threat against its creaters after their spoofing the prophet muhammad in a bear suit. watch. >> hold on a second. stop. there's some extremists threatening that if we give muhammad to the celebrities, they are going to bomb us. >> what? >> just a stupid threat. come on we don't want to piss off tom cruise again. >> they reportedly call the creators stupid saying they will probably end up dead. ben, this was part of an episode that also offended every major star in hollywood, a lot of major religions, isn't this what "south park" does?
5:48 pm
>> well, it's all fun and games until somebody loses their life. i mean, i think a reasonable person might have hoped they wouldn't have picked this particular fight but at the end of the day you have to defend their right to express their opinion because satire is an important cultural value. at the end of the day it's what they do. i think they've got to keep doing it. >> yeah, and they should not take these threats lightly. it is very, very frightening and "showbiz tonight" reached out to comedy central today but they had no comment. more outrage today. lindsay's mom spoke out about all the reports lindsay is broke and partying way too hard. take a look at what she said. >> lindsay will spend money because she has people that run what she does. lindsay doesn't really pay her bills, someone else does. lindsay isn't in charge of her finances, others are. i'm not going to talk about any personal issues. >> wait a second. i'm a little bit confused. you just said i'm not going to talk about any personal issues
5:49 pm
at the end of an interview in which you talked about lindsay's personal issues. michelle, is this just nuts? >> it's nuts. she's totally enabling her daughter but, you know, lindsay is 23 years old. she is -- she is a grown woman and it's high time she start taking care of her business. you know, if it has to do with the mom managing, it works look at beyonce and brandi and her mother. it absolutely can work and i think they need to get lindsay into treatment, rehab or straight to prison. what about downey, jr., robert downey, jr., who knew he would go straight to the bottom and then he's right on top again with "iron man"? so, it can happen. >> he is, definitely redeemed himself. she's getting slammed for this today and that's why we're saying that you are the newest recipient and certainly deserve

6:06 pm
sometimes defendants in the jail do begin to confide in certain people, and if the state believes that this testimony is credible, and they have to meet with this person, and they don't throw it out, they meet with the person and grill the person and find out how the information got over there, and if the state feels that the information is relevant number one, and help their case, then maybe they will use that individual, so they have to see how it pans out. >> let me read a couple of facebooks here, stacy, because people are not discounting the theory, but they discount the inmate. do you really think that she is telling people these things? i don't think that the ip mate, casey drugged her, but she didn't tell the inmate. so people are saying, come on, casey not going to tell the inmate that, but you say, maybe she would. >> absolutely. we have a it so many times. you think to yourself, why would someone open their mouth? lots of times in jail, in prison, they do confide in people, and people find, you know, it comforting to discuss

6:12 pm
innocence, and talking to beth karas says that this it is jealousy. so can we talk about that whole fact that casey was jealous of her daughter and mother? >> well, no doubt there is a acrimonious relationship between casey and cindy. there is problems with them, and that comes from interviews and family friends and people who are aware of these things, but also, casey loves her mother, and there are references to casey getting really uptight and nervous about seeing her mother. it is in one of the letters she sent to robin adams seeing her mother after three months in court. it is a love/hate relationship. >> that relationship between casey and cindy and cindy and caylee and how could that factor in as you try to build a case against casey anthony? ? >> well, if you look at the depositions over the last year, we have heard from beginning when caylee was born and the

author is coming from. my concern is, look, this is not just a little one-time gathering. this is going on relentlessly. it is is a child who is repeatedly being bullied, physically, sexual to the point where she is being pushed, and the insults keep going. if there is anything that concerns me, it is what we now know that one of the greatest other things you can do if a child is not getting help, allow her a way to report, anonymous reporting on high schools seems to be another way. i don't feel safe. i need help. and that can be another technique, but you have to put the places there for kids, because we have a lot of okids who are not feeling safe. this child is just over the top of not feeling safe. >> you make it sound like a bullying hotline is a great solution, and like you have said, it is a anonymous, and the kid can get some help. let's listen to the superintendent talking about how phoebe was a private person and they didn't know the full extent to what was going on. let's listen to that. >> she didn't reveal to people
6:21 pm
what she was being subjected to, and unfortunately, until january 7th, we were not aware of what she was being subjected to, so it is very little way we could have intervened in the bullying that took place. >> again, if that is the case, all of the more reason to follow up on an essay like this, right, michelle? >> well, one step more on this, and that is monitoring is absolutely critical. so one of the best ways we reduce bullying at any school site is to get visibility of adults. this kid has been pushed into lockers and repeatedly insulted and not happening in the classroom i'm assuming, but out in the hallways. you put up mirrors and fake video cameras, because if a kid thinks they are at least being watched, you do some monitoring, because that kid was relently targeted with no help. >> thank you, michelle. more coming up, stay with us. allstate has more discounts than you can imagine.

goodell got it right or going too far? >> well, some people say where does roger goodell get off? well, it is a personal conduct policy, and he is saying sthat is a privilege to play in the nfl. i can decide fi don't enjoy your behavior whether or not you get to play in my league. think about this guy, he is preying on underaged women, feeding them shots, has two bodyguards, off-duty police officers, block a hallway to a bathroom, having sex in a public restroom and exposing himself to other women, and drunk and parading around a college town. i think that he has enough, roger goodell, to say, well, that is not making the league or the steelers feel too good. so roger goodell is judge, jury, and executioner in, and if roger goodell has embarrassed himself, and the league and the team. >> well, it is a great point. it is also about setting an example for the rest of the league and doing what is right by the fan. think about roger goodell, because he wants families to come to game.
6:44 pm
he wants everybody to see family entertainment, and that is not happening when you have a star quarterback going out to try to drink with underaged women and try to lure them into the bathroom. so his thing is, hey, guys, around the league, there is a way that you should act as a football player for the nfl. if you want to go somewhere else, do it. but not here. >> and the nfl is the most popular sport in the united states, and i believe one of the reasons, they are doing a good job to keep the players in line. let's read off that roger goodell expects the players to be held to a higher standard, and this is what he wrote to ben roethlisberger. you are held to a higher standard, and there is nothing about your conduct in milled milledgeville that can be valued to the expectations of the fans or the anybody else. >> well, mr. roethlisberger should be suspended for the whole year as far as i'm concerned.
