you today. thanks for having us over, this is hln "news and views" and i'm virginia cha. you won't be seeing much sun today in fact you may end up seeing something like this. parts of the region are under severe storm warnings and that includes the possibility of tornadoes. this isn't the only dangerous weather out there. colorado was hit with a crazy mix of rain, snow and tornadoes. some campers had to be rescued from two feet of snow and crews are cleaning up a rock slide that closed part of the highway west of denver. rescuers have suspended their search for 11 oil rig workers missing in the gulf of mexico. now the coast guard says it is unreasonable at this point to expect that any of them survived. the search covered 5,200 square miles over three days. even though the search is suspended, the case is not closed. >> we have not 100% certainty accounted for all the lifeboats and we don't know what was

launched from the rig and what might still be with the rig and that's going to be something that we'll continue to do as part of the casualty investigation and we can also reresurrect the search efforts if we feel that there's a possibility that they're out there somewhere in a lifeboat. but everything, all the information we have this week leads us to believe that these 11 members were on the rig. >> more than 100 crewmembers did manage to make it off that platform after tuesday's massive explosion, four of them were critically injured, but they are doing better now. a new york city taxi driver pleaded guilty to plotting a new york subway attack and others are plotting to do is same thing if america doesn't changes its ways. in court the suspect said the plan was launched by overseas al qaeda leaders but was abandoned

when they thought police caught on and were watching them. during his court plea yesterday, he warned of another terror attack if the u.s. does not stop what he called the war on islam. a third man was pleaded not guilty to the terror charges. gunmen ambushed and killed seven police officers in the city of sciudad juarez. more than 5,000 people have been killed in juarez since a turf war between drug cartels erupted two years ago. >> arizona now has a controversial new immigration enforcement measure on its books, governor jan brewer signed it into law in phoenix yesterday. the law requires immigrants to carry their registration documents at all times, it also allows police to question anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally. governor brewer says she had no

choice when it came to signing that bill into law. we in arizona have been more than patient waiting for washington to act. the decades of federal inaction and misguided policy have created a dangerous and unacceptable situation. >> critics say the law will lead to racial profiling, several groups are already promising court challenges to this law. all week protesters have been gathering outside arizona's capitcain case she did sign it. >> i start to think about my family, my friends, about everything that's going to happen, about how things are going to change. >> supporters of brewer's decision say critics are overreacting and that this law is needed. well, rock star and reality show contestant bret michaels is in the hospital in critical

jurors have ordered the boy scouts of america to pay more than $18 million in a sex abuse case. carry lewis was abused by a former assistant scout master that was found guilty of abusing 17 boys 15 years ago. most of yesterday's $18.5 million punitive award will go to a crime victim's fund. >> i don't know if i exactly have closure yet, i have a long road ahead of me still, but it's a huge jumping point, a huge start for me. so i already know i'm a little bit better off than i was i just don't know how much better off yet, but i've got a grin on my face, so, yes. >> boy scout officials won't comment on this case because others are still pending, but the organization says it has always stood against child abuse of any kind. a convicted killer in utah

anthony's home. the nearly 300 pages includes testimony from a woman who says her sister had an affair with george anthony, that is casey's father. the u.s. wants iran to release three american hikers immediately. the hikers were arrested last july. now iran claims they illegally entered the country from iraq. the white house press secretary says they haven't been formally charged or allowed to get any legal representation. the u.s. has asked iran's government to grant visa's to the hiker's family to allow them to visit but that request was denied. you can't really transform education in america without help from good teachers. we talked to a big city mayor about how to get good teachers and keep them. >> i have no formal authority on

her facebook, she said i need a restraining order, my sister and girlfriend too. he's nuts. 22-year-old david kernell is charged with hacking into sarah palin's private e-mail account and posting the information on the internet. she said the event was a major problem for her vice presidential campaign and that it also had a big impact on her family. >> well, there are a kim of pictures in there that were not for public consumption, pictures of trip, he's a beautiful child i want to make sure that people see him as a beautiful child not some diskortded pictures. that's been kind of hurtful. it was a big deal because as you're pointing out, access and communication is so extremely opponent when you're thousandses of miles away from your children and you're not there to protect them and they're receiving threatening calls and messages

over. this is hln news and views and i'm virginia cha. if you live in parts of the southeast, you won't be seeing much sun today. in fact, you may end up seeing something more like this. parts of the region are under severe storm warnings. that includes the possibility of tornadoes. the system has already spawned a few as it makes its way in from the west, and this isn't the only dangerous weather out there. colorado was hit with a crazy mix of rain, snow, and tornadoes. some campers had to be rescued from two feet of snow and crews are cleaning una rockslide that closed part of the highway west of denver. rescuers have suspended their search for 11 oil rig workers missing in the gulf mexico. the coast guard says it is unreasonable at this point to expect that any of them survived. the search covered 5200 square miles over three days. now, even though the search is suspended, the case is not closed. >> we have not for o100%

certainty accounted for all the lifeboats. that's going to be something that we'll continue to do as part of the casualty investigation and we can also resurrect the search efforts if we feel there's a possibility that they're out there somewhere in a lifeboat. but everything, all the information we have this week, leads us to believe that these 11 members were on the rig. >> more than 100 crew members did manage to make it off the platform after tuesday's massive explosion. four of them were critically injured, but they are doing better now. a new york taxi driver pleaded guilty to plotting a subway terror attack and warned that others will try to do the same thing if america doesn't change its ways. prosecutors say he conspired with najibullah zazi and another man. the plan was launched by overseas al qaeda leaders but was abandoned when they thought

police on and were watching him. during court he warned of another terror attack if the u.s. does not stop what he called the war on islam. he faces life in prison. the third man in this case has pleaded not guilty to the terror are charges. arizona now has a controversial new immigration enforcement measure on its books. governor jan brewer signed it into law yesterday in phoenix it requires immigration members to carry identification and allows police to question anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally. it imposes penalties on anyone who knowingly hires or transports illegal immigrant day laborers. governor brewer says she had no choice when it came to signing that bill into law. >> we in arizona have been more than patient waiting for washington to act. but decades of federal inaction and misguided policy have created a dangerous and unacceptable situation. >> critics say the law will lead to racial profiling.

last night "prime news" mike galanos talked to brooke anderson about michaels' overall health before this incident. >> brooke, let's clarify his medical condition. he's been a diabetic since he was a kid, right? >> yeah. since he was age 6. he's been struggling with diabetes his entire life. he's 47 years old. recently, about a week and a half ago, in fact, mike, he was rushed to the hospital in san antonio, texas, where he underwent an emergency appendectomy. and after that surgery he seemed to be in really good spirits. he even posted a note to his fans in which he wrote, they told me that if i had gone on stage like i wanted to, my appendix likely would have ruptured and i would have likely died. he said it hurt but he has a good threshold for pains. he seemed to be in good spirits then. >> the 47-year-old is probably best known for fronting the '80s hair band poison. in recent careers he's been a

mainstay on reality tv. prosecutors have wrapped up their case in the sarah palin e-mail hacking trial after calling the former governor herself to talk to the jury. 22-year-old david cornell is charged with hacking into palin's private yahoo e-mail account and posting the information he found on the internet. palin said the event was a major problem for her vice presidential campaign and it had a big impact on her family. >> well, there are a couple of pictures in there that were not for public consumption, pictures of trig especially. he's a beautiful child. i want to make sure the world sees him as a beautiful child, not distorted pictures that people have taken advantage of the opportunities to have that pictures on the internet to distort and photoshop. that's been hurtful. it was a big deal because, as you're pointing out, access and communication is so extremely important when you're thousands of miles away from your children. you're not there to protect

over. this is hln news and views and i'm virginia cha. a large tornado destroyed between 20 and 30 homes today in valley park, mississippi. we're hearing some people were trapped inside some of those structures. we don't know how many, nor do we know the extent of injuries. the twister ripped through the area about 12:30 this afternoon local time. and there could be more violent weather in parts of the southeast. parts of the region include the possibility of more tornadoes. the system obviously causing a few as it's making its way in from the west. this is not the only dangerous weather out there. colorado also hit with a crazy mix of rain, snow and tornadoes. some campers had to be rescued from two feet of snow, and crews are cleaning up a rock slide that closed part of a highway west of denver. rescuers have suspended their search for 11 oil rig workers missing in the gulf of mexico. the coast guard says it is unreasonable at this point to

expect any of them survived. the search was over three days. the case is not closed. >> we have not 100% certainty accounted for all the lifeboats. and we don't know what was launched from the rig and what might still be with the rig. and that's going to be something that we'll continue to do as part of the casualty investigation. we can also reresurrect the search efforts if we feel there's the possibility they're out there in a lifeboat. but everything, all the information we have this week leads us to believe that these 11 members were on the rig. >> more than 100 crew members did manage to make it off after tuesday's massive explosion. four critically injured, but they are doing better now. a new york taxi driver pleaded guilty to plotting a subway terror attack, and warned others will try to do the same thing if america doesn't change its ways.
