over. this is hln news and views and i'm virginia cha. a tornado slashed through parts of mississippi today. leaving a president of destruction. the associated press reporting at least two people are dead and one town reports as many as 30 homes destroyed. forecasters say the tornado was almost a mile wide at one point. it hit the towns of valley park, yazoo city and durant and we are hearing that some people were trapped inside some of those structures. aside from the reports of the two deaths, we don't know how many people were hurt. the storm generated by a powerful system moving across the central united states today. tornado watches up from southern illinois south to alabama. our ireporters are sending us pictures of the storm that is moving across the southeast. this video by ireporter kathy just south of memphis, tennessee. she says the hail that fell in

her town of southhaven, mississippi, a bit bigger than a golf ball and noisy and didn't feel threatening. rescuers have suspended their search for 11 oil rig workers missing in the gulf of mexico. the coast guard says it is unreasonable at this point to expect that any of them survived. the search covered 5,200 square miles over 3 days. even though the search is suspended, the case is not closed. >> we have not 100% certainty accounted for all the lifeboats and we don't know what was launched from the rig and might still be the rig and that's going to be something that will continue to do as part of the casualty investigation and as captain trosson mentioned, we can also resurrect the search efforts if we feel there's a possibility that they're out there somewhere in a lifeboat but everything, all of the information we have this week leads us to believe that these 11 members were on the rig. >> more than 100 crew members

did manage to make it off that platform after tuesday's massive explosion. four of them were critically injured but they're doing better now. arizona now has a controversial new immigration enforcement measure on its books. governor jan brewer signed it into law in phoenix yesterday. this law requires immigrants to carry the registration documents at all times and it allows police to question anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally. and the law also imposes penalties on anyone that knowingly hires or transports illegal immigrant day laborers. governor brewer said she had no choice when it came to signing the bill into law. >> we in arizona have been more than patient waiting for washington to act. but decades of federal inaction and misguided policy have created a dangerous and unacceptable situation. >> kritings say the law will lead to racial profiling. several groups have already promised court challenges to the law. all week protesters gathered

outside arizona's capital to urge governor brewer not to sign the bill. after she did sign it, at least one worried about what will happen next. >> i started to cry and think about my family and my friends, about everything that's going to happen. about how things are going to change. >> supporters of brewer's decision says this law is necessary. rock star and reality show contestant bret michaels is in the hospital in critical condition. people.com reports doctors found bleeding at the base of his brain stem. his publicist says the singer was rushed to intensive care late thursday after a severe headache. last night mike galanos talked with "showbiz tonight" cohost brooke anderson about michaels' overall health. >> he's been a diabetic sense he was a kid, right? >> yeah. since he was age 6 struggling with diabetes his entire life. he is 47 years old.

recently, about a week and a half ago, in fact, mike, he was rushed to the hospital in san antonio, texas, where he underwent an emergency apen detective my. after that surgery he seemed to be in really good spirits, he posted a note to his fans in which he wrote, they told me that if i had gone on stage like i wanted to my appendix likely to be ruptured and i could have died and said it hurt but got a good threshold for pain and seemed to be in good spirits then. but apparently taken a turn for the worse. >> the 4-year-old michaels is probably best known for fronting the '80s hair band poison. recent years michaels is in vh1's "rock of love." prosecutors wrapped up the case in the sarah palin e-mail hacking trial after calling the former governor herself to talk to the jury. 22-year-old david cornell is charging with hacking into palin's private yahoo! e-mail

account and posting the information found on the internet. palin said the event was a major problem for the vice president shl campaign and also had a big impact on her family. >> well, there are a couple of pictures in there that were not for public consumption. pictures of trigg especially. he is a beautiful child. people have -- they've taken advantage of the opportunities to have those pictures out there on the internet to distort and photo shop and that's a big deal. as you're pointing out, access and communication is so extremely important when you're thousands of miles away from your children and they're receiving threatening calls and messages and mama wants to be there to help the kids and communicate with them. it was a big barn deal to have that communication stripped away. >> the governor's daughter bristol palin said she was harassing e-mails and phone calls after the private information was posted on the web. prosecutors say after hacking

palin's account, cornell posted information that including bristol's phone number. she said terrified when a bunch of guys called and claimed to be at the front door and wanted to be inside. she was 17 at the time and pregnant. here's what david cornell had to say about bristol as he was entering court this week. >> making you work, david? >> yeah. >> what did you think about bristol palin? >> not my type. >> if he's convicted, he could face up to 50 years in prison. saturday mail may soon go the way of the pony express. would you miss it? >> no. i'm not happy about it. the reason they're not making money is because people are not satisfied. i don't know if this will boost satisfaction. >> i don't have a real problem with it. i think they can really save money doing it, it will be okay. >> is the cost cutting idea a good one? of guys.

blagojevich's legal strategy, ryan is a host on true tv. >> rod blagojevich subpoenaed the president of the united states. what's the chance that will succeed and what does he want to hear from the president? >> well, there's a chance it could succeed. there is some precedent for presidents responding to sarah palins. bill clinton did it in the civil case when he was in office but that was a videotaped deposition but here the president can claim privilege, saying the schedule is too busy, claiming national security. he has a lot of ways of getting out for being present with this. he wants to hear more of what the president knew about the seat. >> his old seat? >> that's right. the allegation that blagojevich tried to sell the old seat for contribution. >> what about going ballistic against the u.s. attorney? what's he trying to do? >> i believe as a lawyer if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all so i think rod blagojevich is feeling frustration over what he believes is the prosecution going after him, trying to get

scene. >> here is what i think is something i hadn't heard before. i heard bits and pieces but the fbi in a memo is asking for a black plastic bag with red handles to be tested for latent fingerprints but i think there could be more of a significance than just fingerprints whether they would or would not be found because it says investigative efforts have revealed that this item, the black, plastic bag held a canvas laundry bag similar to that found with kayly's remains and found on a shelf in the garage. let's remind everybody when the remans were found in december, those remains were found in a canvas laundry bag and by reading this, what i see they say they found on the shelf in the garage was a canvas laundry bag. confirmed the name of whitney design in the garage with a black plastic bag around it and
