developments today in the fight to save lindsay lohan from herself. lindsay's dad is gearing up for a legal battle to get control over lindsay's life. and today, "showbiz tonight" heard directly from michael's new high-profile attorney, and she tells us, michael will take every legal means necessary to get lindsay the help, he believes, lindsay needs. for her part, lindsay's just furious over her father's actions, and she has unleash a barrage of twitter messages, saying exactly what she thinks of him, and trust me, it ain't pretty. but wait, there's more! this outrageous new public feud comes just as lindsay is reportedly fired from her latest film. and that's only the start of this dramatic day in the life of lindsay lohan. >> reporter: it's a story with a complicated plot. an accused deadbeat dwad wrap-sheet and a flare for drama. a starlet with a life that's spiraling out of control and

today a ultimate as michael begs his daughter lindsay to get her life back on track. >> i can't go every day wondering if it's her last day or not. >> reporter: his ults mateum is clear, he wants her to meet him today and sit down and fig ire out how to fix her life. >> if lindsay sits down and talks to me like a human being and she's honest and then it'll all be up to her. >> reporter: and if she doesn't -- >> then she'll have to, because i'm going to conservatorship. >> if she doesn't then he's planning to step in and try to take legal action, very similar to the way jamie spears, britney spears' dad took control of her life through a conservatorship. >> reporter: but lind cie has a long complicated and emotional history with her dad, and today she says she wants absolutely nothing to do with her estranged father. in an angry tweet today, lindsay called her father her ex-con dad and a pathological liar saying "as for the ridiculous concern father interview, yet again, another cry for attention on his part and a public display of reaching out. when we have stated that he is not a part of our lives, nor has
5:04 pm
he been for a while." >> part of me, i know this is wrong, wants to think that michael's not being a bad guy. like once in his life he's trying to be a dad. >> michael's track record as a father has been shaky, at best. but things really exploded when on thursday, michael made a dramatic and surprise visit to lindsay's apartment with several officers from the lapd to check in on his 16-year-old daughter ali who is living with lindsay. >> now focusing in on the police, not even me and said who is there? and i said, ali, it's daddy and i'm with the sheriff's department. and i said, ali, i want to make sure that you're okay. she said, i'm fierng daddy. >> the visit outraged lindsay, who says she now wants a restraining order against her father. in an angry tweet, she wrote, "let's not forget that my father kidnapped me from a courtroom when i was 4 years old and is crazy. he has never paid child support, when will it ever end? it's been going on my whole life with him. hasn't he caused enough pain?" and lindsay's mother dina was infuriated by michael's visit. she tells "us" magazine today --
5:05 pm
"he's never been there, he's been in and out of jail for ten years, this guy has to be stopped. he's dangerous." this intensely public family battle is only one part of lindsay's troubles today. are there brand-new reports that she's been dropped from her latest film project "the other side" because she's just not bankable anymore. >> the cost of insuring lindsay lohan has gotten to be so high because she does have so many problems on the set, on "georgia rule" she was absent for at least a one-third of the time they were filming. >> reporter: it's safe to say lindsay's professional and personal lives are in the toilet. and while michael lohan is one controversial dad, he seems to be the only one who is trying to help his daughter get her life back on track, at least publicly. >> as crazy as michael lohan is, it's still an adult figure there with a legal team there to try to help lindsay get her life on track. if she continues on the path that she's on right now, she's
5:06 pm
going to keep spiraling downwards, and god only knows what's going to happen to her. >> well, as crazy as it sounds, could michael lohan actually be lindsay's best chance at surviving a possible meltdown? right now new york, lauren lake, who's an attorney and author of "girl, let me tell you,"aun any also right now from hollywood carlos diaz who is a syndicated radio host. guys, i think michael somewhere in there is genuinely worried about lindsay lohan at this point, his daughter. but what i don't understand is why he's not doing all of this behind closed doors. today, here's lawyered up. he's ready to fight for control over lindsay's life, if he has to. carlos, i'm all for him wanting to help lindsay but i'm thinking he's going about this the wrong way. what do you think? >> you know, a.j., i just had a conversation with michael lohan, and you know what, he's got me convinced that his heart is in the right place, and i agree with you, a.j. i mean you have to wonder, is he going about it the right way with you know granting interviews to tmz and being in front of the public eye? but there's an old adage in tv, if there's no video, it never

5:09 pm
and as lauren just mentioned, that action could include a conservatorship, that's what britney spears' dad had over britney taking control of her affairs. but when you look at how toxic lindsay and mike amy's relationship has been, carlos, i am thinking, if it does come down to a conservatorship, this is the last guy who should be in charge of lindsay's affairs? >> well, and that's you know, and that's a great point on your part. i mean, lindsay and her dad have had a very tough relationship, to say the least. and you know in talking to michael lohan, he said that he just wants to sit down with dina, and kind of hash things out. and i asked him isaid, well, is this like the britney spears' situation? he said no i'm looking at this as more of a robert downey jr. situation. i have this incredibly talented daughter who falling on hard times right now and robert downey jr. was getting same route and now he's america's sweetheart and he thinks that

it seems to me kate doesn't really need the kids on tv to make money anymore. and i have said all along, i think it is a bad idea to raise these kids on television. carlos, is it a mistake to put them back on the tube? >> a.j., you and i agree on a lot of things, and on this one, we differ. i'm sorry! i want to see these kids on tv. i -- i -- it's not any kind of voyeuristic thing. it is, these kids are cute. they have entertainment value. i honestly think that kate, although she -- she's got a big fan base, as you just said, i think kate show this summer will struggle on tlc. a big fat paycheck to help raise these kids is the best thing for these kids. >> carlos, i love how you say, because you want to see them back on tv another, a good idea. that's pretty much what i took from that. >> i'm very selfish, i'm very selfish. >> now the last time that we saw the gosselin kids on tv of course is when the family was just imploding back when they

5:36 pm
they both apparently had relapses in their short marriage. and we cannot forget they do have these 1-year-old twins. carlos, it does seem like the decision to live separately could actually be the smartest thing these two have done in a long time. >> yeah, and we really don't know because we're not there and experiencing what they're going through, but here i'm going to reverse my stance and say the kids are the most important thing here. and you do have twins in this marriage. you have charlie with kids from his marriage with denise. and you hope for the best for the children. so whatever's best for the children in this case should be best for charlie and brooke. >> yeah and if it's volatile or toxic, the two of them being together in the same house, then by all means, live separately. let's move on now to the explosive new jesse james' mistress apology. it's the shocking letter just fax to sandra bullock that's rocking her world today. melissa smith, who's the second one to said she had an affair with sandra bullock' husband, writes sandra in a letter obtained by tmz, this "i know this letter will most likely go unanswered, but i want you to

things he has done, and he has to lead by example and has to be a leader on the field, and maybe win a couple of super bowls to get back into the good graces, but there is a sector of steeler nation completely done with him, a want to do away with him, and don't like his morals, but he can win a certain sector of people particularly in the middle, he could win the fans back by winning. >> yeah, by winning. very basic there. stacy, here is one portion i wanted to ask you specifically ability. he writes, i am disappointed that i have reached this point and i will not put myself in this position again. how does someone of ben roethlisberger's stature reach that point? you are a super bowl champion quarterback and he said it himself and he was a role model of sorts, but how did he get there? how does that happen? >> well, it starts with the fact that he is worshipped with a full sense of entitlements and used to getting what he wants. these guys have tempers which is part of what makes them great on the field and passionate people and part of what drives him down

the wrongful paths. they are so wrapped up on whatever they are chasing after, they don't think about the consequences, but they want what they think is the win of the moment. >> and to that, mike. >> yeah, go ahead, james. >> well, to add to the point, athletes live in the different world than the rest of us. we have to understand that as normal people. they make a lot of no knmoney, entitled to them, and even since pop warner. and so, as we try to make logic out of guys whose lifestyles is not like our own. >> james, isn't that refreshing when we find the athlete who can balance that and still be a good guy? >> yeah definitely. it is almost like that is not the norm nowadays, but it is the way that society is. exactly, good point, michael. >> james, thank you for coming aboard, and stacy, as usual, thank you. and we talked about craigslist making millions from sex ads. one-third of the site's overall revenue from sex ads and critics

prostitution. here is what the craigslist chief executive is saying about the ads. of the thousands of u.s. venues that carried a dult service ads including venues operated by some of the largest investment companies in the u.s., craigslist is one of the best and responsible job of combatting child exploitation, and human trafficking. i wonder if that is true, why have attorneys general from 40 states investigated the company for facilitating criminal activity. should craigslist really be profiting from the sex ads to the tune of $36 million. call 1-877-tell-hln. back with us is john lucich, and author of the book "cyber lies." joining us as well is connecticut attorney general richard bloom enthal. thank you. latest example, richard. the fbi arrests 14 members of the gambino crime family, why? for selling sex with young girls ages 14 to 19 on craigslist. i read this and think, if they

are doing such a great job, why this is happening? >> big money involved in human trafficking and child exploitation, which is really in some ways the darkest side of what is happening here. very well known and well regarded group such as the national center for missing & exploited children have called attention to that very, very profoundly revolting and disgusting phenomenon of craigslist knowingly or not actually enabling this kind of exploitation and trafficking to occur. and so, the mob is capitalizing on it. others are as well. >> right. >> and craigslist should be held accountable. >> you know, i believe so. you sent craigslist a letter asking them, and you can correct me if i am wrong, what are they doing about the blatant ads and where are they with monitoring this kind of stuff? >> so far, they have not

responded, but as you observed quite rightly, there are a lot of attorneys general who are very, very focussed on this issue, issue. the reason is, quite simply, that our children are affected. our young people who are involved sometimes very much against their will in lives of prostitution. and the argument can be made, well, there are other means of purveying this kind of sex, you know. the -- the publishing vehicles and so forth. but let's remember that federal law gives much broader immunity to the online brothels than it does to the published versions. >> right. >> these sites, many of them, have become online red light districts. and 40 attorneys general and possibly more now are very strongly united in standing against this phenomenon. >> yeah. john, i think that's what -- as i've covered this, it seems that

craigslist is facilitating. they're enabling this, which is pla blatant prostitution. your thoughts? >> no. first of all, it's reprehensible with anybody who is going to make money on somebody else's suffering. i don't like to see this type of activity. but that being said, if craigslist went out of business tomorrow, would this stop? there are so many other areas that they can -- that can use to get these ads out there and to continue on. craigslist is not the problem. one of the issues with craigslist -- and it came -- i believe it came out of a 1995 ruling where the courts in new york, state of new york supreme court, upheld that said, hey, they took editorial control over this -- this content and therefore that made them responsible for what was on there. they were actually -- they were seen as a publisher, not as a service provider. >> okay. we've got a take a quick break. but the bottom line question is, what do we do to make sure
