Helen's A Doll...
I like Helen's portrayal of Marple, though, all that have rendered her have been good. "Mirrors" is a good storyline with Hayes, Bette Davis, Tim Roth, and I forget his name, but he was #1 in that great British Spy Series "The Prisoner" with Patrick McGoohan, I believe it was. It also has some other good character actors that makes for a great production and suspenseful whodunit. "Caribbean" I saw a good while back but also features some novel characters of the time and is a good yarn. Rating the Miss Marple actresses is a difficult one for me. M. Rutherford was a personal friend of Christie's so I believe she must have enjoyed the comedic gest of Rutherfords' portrayal even though Joan Hickson had the Christie family approval for portraying the more retired, stoic and wise woman Christie intended. One must appreciate the Artistic License of Characterization to reap the benefits of what else can be brought into the story, much as Rutherfords comedic, yet, demure nature; Julia Mckenzies' well rounded Marple; McEwans' more robust and delightful Marple; Landsburys' spirited, even verbose rendering- she was in her late 30's early 40's then I believe. I believe it's my romantic nature that puts Helen Hayes and Julia Mckenzie at the top for me, but boy o' boy is that Joan Hickson stalwart, astute, refined, even eloquent... Enjoy 😉 🔎
