remembrance, a year you're watching eyewitness news. >> one more murder. is it just that people don't care? >> frustration and remembrance a year after a murder. how loved ones channel their pain into a desperate call for justice. >> it's very sad that something like that would happen here. a party ends in gun fire. two young men killed. bay area police describe the chaotic scene. a building taken over by the homeless. this is proof that a crisis can be solved. from sin city to -- the numbers are lined to tie the knot. >> good evening. one year ago. he became another oakland homicide stat. he was shot to death near his home. his never has never been solved. friends and family gathered to remember him. and they are demanding the

police reopen their investigation. >> the friends and family say there is plenty of blame for the lack of progress on the homicide investigation. budget cuts, too much crime and too few police officers, even with all that, his case has been seriously miss handled. >> reporter: this memorial for the homicide victim has political over tones. a claim that oakland police have not done enough to solve the killing. he was killed a short distance of his home a year ago today. his death was the 90th homicide in oakland last year. supporters say this case has never been investigated properly. >> is it the neighborhood? is it just one more murder in oakland? is it just that people don't care? i don't know what it is. what do you need to be? do you need to be a police officer? a 13-year-old? >> reporter: she placed this ad in the oakland tribune.

it asked readers, "who killed me? please give my family peace ." friends have also been trying to generates leads. she said she met -- on an airport and was captivated by his personality. >> he said hi, who are you. he was 10 years old. >> reporter: he was a mentor to the boy he calls mr. happy. >> i can't think of the circumstances by which anybody would hurt him much less kel him, you know, over what? >> reporter: he was called a terrific player and a terrific kid. >> to me it had to be a case of mistaken identity. unfortunately there are no leads. but i take my hat off to some of the people here who are me severing and trying to get some answer. >> reporter: oakland police are stretched thin but -- >> homicide is the most

important thing. if we don't solve these homicides we aren't going to be able to deter further shootings. >> reporter: rewards totaling $21,000 are offered for the arrest. >> you can just hear from your story, they are so frustrated. they hope going public, being on television will prompt them to do something more. >> they make no secret about that. they intend to pressure the oakland police to get something done. they have a strong group and have been at it for a year. tonight police hope that someone will come forward with information about a deadly shooting at a party in the east bay. many are shocked that it happened in a family-friendly place. >> reporter: yellow crime scene

tape surrounds the restaurant. a bloodstain on the sidewalk outside. >> it's very sad that something like that would happen here at this place. >> reporter: just before 10:00 p.m., shots range out. four young men were hit. two of them died at the hospital. police say they were between the ages of 18 and 20. police say describe a chaotic scene with witnesses scattering. >> running away from the building. fleeing at high rates of speed in cars as they left the area. and not much left for us when we got there. >> reporter: the restaurant's banquet haul was being rented out for a party for teenagers and young adults. police say they didn't find any alcohol there and they still don't know who rented it. >> it appears that the application was either false identified for provided fictitious information. >> it makes me feel sad and uncomfortable a little bit. >> reporter: police are still

looking for information and witnesses from last night hoping people won't be afraid to come forward. >> any help in this case could be the missing link that would help me solve it. >> reporter: police appear to have some witnesses. we saw three people arrive in the parking lot this afternoon. they said they were at the party last night but police told them not to speak with reporters. a smoky fire at the tesoro refinery is under investigation tonight. the refinery said several feet of diesel fuel caught fire this afternoon. they had it controlled by about 3:00 p.m. the contractor working on the tank was taken to the hospital. san jose firefighters blame yesterday's fire that destroyed a radio station transmitter on the city's fire department cut backs. the fire began when a car

crashed on 101 and burst into flames. it spread quickly to the grass and to the radio station. at a news conference, the firefighters' union says that two fire stations that would have responded to the fire were closed due to budget cuts. they want the city to rehire 49 laid off firefighters. >> the last two and a half months since the budget cuts have proven that the city lies unprotected. response times have gotten worse and homes and businesses have been lost. >> i would like to think it's an act of good faith but unfortunately it's not. the reality is you need so many dollars to bring back those positions and every offer so far has been so much less than that. >> reporter: the union says its willing to go back to the bargaining table but the city has so far refused. well hundreds of foreclosed homes -- more than 200 bay area

homes were auctioned off at the oakland convention center. they are among more than 600 forclosure being sold in northern california this week. some of the homes are going for half of their original values. some bargain hunters say it's a mixed blessing. >> when the bank sells a home for half price, it completely destroys everybody's home values in that neighborhood. that's not going to stop what's going on, so i want to buy a vacation home near the ocean and that's why i'm here today to hopefully get one for 50 cents on the dollars. >> besides oakland, the auction group sold homes in fresno and sacramento and will hold an auction in modesto tomorrow. more than a dozen homeless people have a roof over their heads tonight. creative housing liberation took over a vacant building in san francisco today. about 15 homeless people moved in. police showed up but so far have not evicted the new

residents. organizers say they are going to have to stay put. >> there is many reasons that these buildings stay vacant. profit is one of them and we think that human lives are more important than property values. we're going to stay housed as long as we can. >> the event is part of the first annual world homeless day. dozens of u.s. cities and 50 countries also participated. gop leaders are bashing a new democratic tv ad that accuses republicans of taking foreign money to finance campaigns. the president was on the road. >> reporter: president obama is firing up democratic voters warning them their mission is at stake. >> see what the other side is counting on, what they are counting on is you're going to stay home. they are counting on your silence. >> with just three weeks until the mid-term elections, the president is going across the

country trying to energize voters. >> he has brought us some enthusiasm. >> reporter: while he works the crowd, his party is on the attack with a new tv ad. >> they are stealing our did he mock city. >> reporter: they are alleging gop is using foreign funds to finance their campaigns. >> this is a committees pratt and i think -- desperate and i think disturbing trend by the president of the united states to start an enemy list. >> reporter: many say they are much more concerned about issues that directly affect their lives. >> the jobs, the economy, gas prices fluctuating back and forth. >> taxes. taxes are -- i'm not one of those people that says no taxes at all but we can cut a few things here and there. >> reporter: peter anderson

year-old girl. everyone would love to have that in their history. >> what's the rachel reporting. it has been a beautiful weekend outside. looks like the sun is going to stick around through the workweek. how high is it going to be? >> well, what a weekend it's been. a lot of sunshine and warm temperatures. things looking good out there. high pressure building in overhead. looks like it's going to stick around. probably going to crank up the temperatures as we head in toward the next couple of days. you may want to be a little careful. we've got a fire weather watch. we're expecting the winds to start to gust, especially over the north and east bay hills. maybe 25 to 40 miles per hour. and possibly continuing into wednesday. so the weather is going to look great but something of a concern. you may want to watch that very carefully as the fire danger is going to be running high. in the meantime, though, looking great around the bay area, lots of sunshine coming your way, temperatures going to be warm to hot inland 80s and

some low 90s. as you head inside the bay, sun knee and nice there. -- nuny and nice there. hey, today's high. we had 92 degrees in santa rosa. 89 in fairfield. 72 in the city of san francisco. we have -- week and everything going on. the weather just worked out perfect. we still had a couple of patches of fog. but that is sweeping off the coast now and your sky is going to be clear for your next few days. temperatures around the state, 80s in the central valley. mostly sunny -- partly cloudy skies near lake tahoe. still high pressure building in. that is going to move on by us. we start to see those offshore winds kinging in. secure -- kicking in.

tomorrow morning, just a patch other two of fog. here comes that sunshine, it is going to be warm to hot in spots around the bay area. temperatures heating up. plenty of sunshine there. numbers running up in the 70s right out at the beaches. inside the bay, a lot of 80s. it's going to get hotter as you head inland. north bay also expecting some temperatures going to be on the hot side. going to be up to 92 as we look toward the afternoon. the next couple of days, hot side until about tuesday. wednesday temperatures starting to come down. much cooler as we look toward this next weekend. back to you. >> thank you. well, today one community held a fundraiser to make sure our beloved pets live a longer healthier life. hundreds of people met to raise money to fight canine cancer. it's the number one cause of

death for dogs over two years old. their goal was to raise $40,000. >> so many things coming out about just the benefits of animals to humans. anyone who has had a pet knows what that human animal bond is like and how it benefits your own health and well-being. >> at last count that group raised more than $70,000. it's not just a job for big dogs anymore. guide dogs now come in all shapes and sizes. the trainees are still young and some small enough to fit in a coffee cup but they have a future of helping humans who are visually impaired. >> it's a little bit of work, too. but it just makes you feel good to help someone. >> this is the first class of all puppy trainees. they will work with them for about a year to see if they have the right stuff to move on

named five. >> believe it or not, years and years ago i always hoped this would be the day. >> according to bride magazine, 31,050 u.s. couples chose to get married. that's almost twice the number of weddings and ten times as many as a typical sunday. it's not just about luck or even dumb luck for these two who got married at 10:10 sunday morning. >> i'm a little older so it helped me remember my anniversary. >> as for the newly edge gauged, there are two similar dates coming up. 11 and 12. s in southern babies born on 10/10/10 also considered lucky. and this baby got more than his share of luck.
