her family. >> reporter: police say they made a case a high-profile investigation and the work paid off. they identified 18 hours after the violent sexual assault, they identified a suspect and issued a want for his arrest. berkley police say the man identified as the sensual assailant of a female minor in the bedroom of her home early yesterday was known to the family. one police officer commenting on the severity of the attack told the daily californian, quote, it was not two minutes, it was a substantial sexual assault. omar sosa of berkley is the suspect. authorities say he entered he minors bedroom through an unlocked window, assaulted her and fled. >> early this morning an arrest warrant was issued for omar sosa. be believe he has left the bay area, heading south, possibly to free to new mexico in a 1997

arrest may come soon. >> robbers have struck again. two men stole jewelry from the home consignment center. they pepper sprayed customers and employees. during their getaway, the suspects got into two hit-and- run crashes. police are not saying if they are connected to another pepper spray robbery in danville two months ago. well, oakland will begin the process this week to allow industrial sized urban pot farms inside the city limits. several northern california cities are looking to collect tax revenue from large cultivation operations that apply for medical marijuana. tomorrow four pot farms begin the permitting process inside oakland's borders. well, new calls tonight for a less invasive security

screening methods at the nation's airports. the patdowns and full body scanners have created such an up roar that even some people in the obama administration say they wouldn't want to go through them. and there could be problems for the airports during the holidays. >> reporter: they're talking about just say no to body scans. there's been a loosely organized internet campaign urging holiday travelers to opt out of what they're calling aggressive security measures. critics call it invasive, intrusive, and offensive. the full body scan, a virtual strip search. the option, a full body pat down. that's controversial, too. >> i think the body pats are i think a little excessive. >> reporter: even the secretary of state says she wouldn't submit to it. >> notify could avoid it. no, i mean who would? >> reporter: in upset

travelers have started an internet organized boycott of full body scans. they want passengers to refuse or opt out on wednesday, the busiest travel day of the year, to send a message to government that it's unacceptable. still many passengers done think opting out is a solution. >> no, i'm opposed to that. i think to that scanning is important. somehow, some kind of security. >> do you think the process may cause some delays? >> absolutely. it's always a few that ruin it for the majority. >> reporter: san francisco international airport expecting a record number. of travelers this week. 123,000 passengers on wednesday alone, even if only a few opt out, that would cause delays. >> i'm sorry, if i need to fly, i need to fly, even if they are body searching us. i mean, i think it's ridiculous, but what can you do, you just have to kind of go with it. >> reporter: homeland security defends their methods. a suspected terrorist carried explosives in his underwear on

a flight last christmas, and last month, plastic explosives were shipped on u.s. bound cargo planes. >> maybe they do it, you know, for our safety. >> well,tsa patients say you do have an option, you can opt out of the body scan, but you can have that pat down, and you can opt out of that, too, but that means you won't get a seat on the airplane. well, for the millions of americans choosing to drive instead of fly this week, they may get a shock at the pump. the price of gas has gone up five cents in two weeks. why are prices asking at a time when they are usually dropping? >> reporter: this thanksgiving the number of people hitting the road is expected to rise over 11% over last year, but they won't be celebrating prices at the pump. >> they're ridiculous, i think. i spend over $100 a week in

gas. >> wholesale gas prices are up 27 cents a gallon since september 1st. oil prices have risen because of a declining dollar. the average retail price across the country is $2.87 per gallon. in many case places, drivers are already paying well over $3. >> someone just starting out with a low paycheck, that's a decent cut of the budget. >> reporter: it could mean less money to spend on holiday shopping, as well, a big impact for the economy. >> nothing affect this consumers' safety than the up and down price of gas. that has a big hit to the collective psyche. >> i don't see an end to it, and i'm worried. >> reporter: sustained high gas prices are a concern for economists. >> every i penny that we get above $3, every penny takes $4 million per penny per day out of the american consumer. >> reporter: rising energy prices act like a tax on both consumers and business.

>> i have to work harder. that's how i do it. the only way for me, because i work for myself, is to simply work harder and longer. >> reporter: as more people drive and demand increases, gas prices could continue to rise. >> every single recession that this economy suffered since world war ii has been precede bade spike in energy prices, so we need to watch this very carefully. >> reporter: economic robe could have some bumps in the road. and here in california, the average price for a gallon of regular unled is $3.13. the survey also says san francisco drivers pay the most, it's $3.20 in the city. the state's cheapest gas, fresno to at $3.09. black friday is still five days away, but holiday spirits are already up for retailers. shoppers have already spent more in their first half of this month than they did this time last year. it is a positive outlook for

without a bank? and it's not just the low income.... some are frustrated with the banking industry's role in the 25%. of the people in this country don't have a bank account, and it's not just the low income. some are upset with the banks role in the the recession, and others are simply fed up with the fees. >> reporter: think bank fees are high? try living without one. more and more people are doing just that. >> people are trying to pay more in cash. i have paid hundreds in overdraft fees, so if i could go with just cash, that would be nice. >> reporter: i decided to go unbanked for two weeks to see if i could find ways to do it cheaper. first things first, i canceled direct got, and i took some checks to bank of america to see if i could cash them without an account. >> no. if you don't have an account with bank of america, and the

check isn't drawn off of bank of america. ever they would only take my paychecks. the fee? $5. wal-marts cash checking system is cheaper, at $3. j & j in san francisco, there was a 2% fee, which is better than wal-mart, if your check sunder $150. i have utility bills to pay. it's free at the cash checker, but wal-mart charges 88 cents. for represent, i need a money order. 59 cents each at the cash checker. so between cashing checks and two weeks of bills, i racked up $14.40 in fees. >> if you were likely to overdraft your account, a reasonable choice. >> reporter: for many, these fees are a form of insurance against expensive overdraft charms. but bill paying is one thing.

what about booking travel with cash? i headed to the airport to buy a ticket i found on-line. >> want to get away fares are only available on the internet. >> reporter: the ticket cost $120 more, plus parking. so back to wal-mart for a reloadable credit card so i could buy the ticket on-line, but those cards were sold out at two wal-marts and a wall green. the demand for these cards has quadrupled over the past two years. so i ordered one direct from greendot.com. and then headed back. the fees? $13.40. after two weeks, living bankless was a lot of work, but did do it cheaper than the national average. in all, $31.80 in fees, and still less than one just overdraft charge. but before you go dropping your

then a brief downpour, and it will move out, and that's what we'll see all night long and through the better part of tomorrow. i think tomorrow to be safe you'll see some sunshine, but there will be a chance of a few scattered showers, and so you'll see sun for maybe 20 minutes or so, and then here comes that shower. temperatures running in the 40s and 50s at this hour. high pressure will try to sneak in here about midweek, but before that, this trough will usual are in the the cool air and scattered showers for tonight and tomorrow, administer think more substantial rain as we head into tuesday. looking pretty good, as we'll see, that very unstable atmospheroused for tonight. commute may be a little bit wet tomorrow morning. not a rain out, but definitely on the damp side. and then as we head through the day, those showers on and off, you'll see breaks in between the clouds, but, yes, a chance of rain in the forecast, and things unsettled. as we look out toward the next

couple of days, of course we have the holiday coming up here, and i think we're looking pretty good as high pressure is going to try to sneak in for wednesday and thursday. next weekend, more rain on the way. >> all right. good to know, thanks. well, a very unusual animal attack in the bay area today sent a worker to the hospital. a research monkey bit an employee at the stanford research institute this morning. the worker then fainted, but by the time police got there, the employee it was conscious again. the researchers sustained minor injuries. no word on what happened to the monkey. authorities say it's the first time they've ever been called to this kind of incident. well, nearly a thousand rats were discovered during the taping of a tv show about quarters in a southern california home. those rats are now here in the bay area. they were relocated by an animal rescue group. we look at how now comes the hard part, getting the animals adopted. >> reporter: they're still

being counted, but animal rescuers think they have about 1,000 rats in their care. >> lacerations to the left leg. this will be a medical. >> reporter: they are treating and storing these homeless pets in the warehouse space of a pet store in san jose. >> we're going to separate the boys from the girls, first to thing. >> reporter: and for good reason, many of the rats are pregnant. they even have a makeshift maternity world. >> welcome to the world. a much better place than where you were. >> reporter: they were rescued from a rat quarter in l.a. >> these all originated from one pregnant rat the owner allowed to run free in the house. >> we've nest indicated them, so it's our reason. >> i know a lot of people are creeped out by rats, the tail, they eyes, but they really do

make great pets. a rat thinks of you as a friend. it's like having a little dog. >> reporter: group star rescue is planning to send them all over the country to try to get them adopt out. >> we're committed to making sure they get a normal life after what they've been through. >> next, just in time for thanksgiving, the traditional presidential turkey pardon. the special treatment the turkey will receive coming up.

unstoppable, was next. actress lindsay lohan's well documented drug and alcohol problems have cost her the role of linda lovelace in an june coming movie. she is expected to be in rehab while the movie was to be filmed. this year's official white house to turkey will come from livingston in central valley. the bird got on a plane heading for washington today, but this turkey like most of its predecessors can count on college insee from their president. >> reporter: the bird deemed just right by the folks at california's foster farms is going to wind up on a very special table at the white house. for four months, they have been nurturing what they call the presidential flock.
