you will never take me alive. >> today he died at a hospital near his home in florida. he had suffered from complications from pneumonia. he was a serious actor for years but that changed in 1980, that's when he starred in airplane. he re--- he also won an emmy in the "naked gun" comedy. he was 84 years old. a man tried to sexually assault a woman who was walking down the street. a woman was walking on a street near a park about 12:30 a.m. saturday. she was pushed to the ground from behind, then the suspect tried to remove the woman's pants but she screamed and fought off her attacker. that suspect is described as white in his late 20s, early 30s. he was about 6' 1'' with short

dark hair. san francisco police are searching for suspects in a drive-by shooting that left three people wounded. somebody inside a car fired five to seven shots at another car. the three men hit are expected to recover. well, crime does make news, but so does a drop in crime. tonight, a dramatic drop in one east bay city that deserves note. what was behind a sharp decrease in the murder rate in richmond. >> reporter: all quiet on a sunday afternoon in richmond. today it's the lack of gunshots making the news. >> we've been very lucky. >> reporter: the city's 2010 tom lied rate has gone down by about 50% over last year. >> i'm glad it's dropping. >> reporter: in 2009, there were 47 reported murders in the

city. this year, just 22 with only one molest to go. police charge it up to several things. >> officers are getting to know the community. >> reporter: police say it seems as if people who live in the neighborhoods are now more willing to step forward. >> that's how a big part of how we solve a lot of cases. we have to have community involvement. we are finally starting to see that partnership evolve. >> reporter: they have added ten officers this year, and new technology. they have also beefed up their gang task force and monitoring for parole he's. for the people who live in richmond, ten active hope. >> i'm hoping that we're weeding the right people out. >> hopefully it gets better, but i'm not sure.

t travelers bay area airports report no major delays tonight as the thanksgiving holiday weekend wound down but travelers do have something to report. passenger have plenty to say about their experience with the patdowns and the body scans. >> that's right. >> reporter: talking with travelers, we're learning that

those enhanced searches were just not as offensive as feared. and the delays from protests didn't happen. threats of all out rebellion from air travelers over body pats or full body scans failed to materialize. >> no reason for protests. it was quite acceptable to me. >> she says she will notify her congressman over what she went through. >> i think they have to have better standards of dealing with people because the level of hospital tilt, do you want to go talk to the police. no i just want you to do an aggressive a patdown. >> reporter: a handful of demonstrators were calling for action. >> what we saw wednesday, one of our bussier days just before thanksgiving, things went smoothly. of 1 $40,000 people, we didn't have any problems at all.

-- exodus taking its toll on the road. people trying to get home for work tomorrow morning. no major accidents to report and that is the good thing likely because the skies have remained clear and snow on the road ways has been limited. now, if that didn't happen, it could have been a different story so some had a strategy tonight to avoid that crawl. >> i told my neighbor to leave after 7:00 p.m. and so it's been better than usual. we looked at the traffic report before we left so we decide had to wait. >> and of course that was good advice that he got, he stayed put and ended up getting home with plenty of time. back out here live, all of this snow is plowed. it's not on the interstate. interstate 80 running just fine towards the bay area tonight. >> all right.

thanks very much. as lauren said, the coast is clear. three teenagers rescued after 50 days adrift at sea back with hair loved ones tonight. it was after being found in the south pacific on wednesday. they survived those 50 days on some coconuts one sea gull and some rain water. there was a memorial service for them because they were convinced they were dead. they drifted about 800 miles before they were found. san jose celebrated its birthday today. >> reporter: it was founded in 1777, making the city 233 years

old. the celebration held at the adobe, one of the few that has been preserved. >> we are a nation of immigrants. people are understanding that the strength of this city comes from our roots. >> it will serve as the centerpiece of the new shopping and entertainment district. that's set to especially early next year. a baby elephant trapped in a ditch in report east india was rescued today. a male calf about four or five years old fell in the ditch when i was crossing -- he was crossing. locals, forest rangers and people pitched in to rescue the calf. the the mother elephant remained nearby until the baby got out safe. we got to see that shot here. there you go. now, he's free. he will never do that again.

your balance, using an atm or even calling customer service. >> i'm paying you to put money in my account and then i'm paying money to take money back out. >> it's very easy to see your balance just literally nickel and dimed away by the fees that come with many of these prepaid cards. >> the worst offender may be the new kardashian card, named for the reality show. it's marketed to teenage girls. but you do need a lot of monies for fees. a 6-month card cost 69.95 to set up. customer service fees, 9.95 to replace a card. $6 to cancel the account. >> if you don't use the money, they duct it or charge you. >> wal-mart charges a $3 monthly fee, $3 to reload. $2 to withdraw and $1 to check the balance.
