woman lost in the wilderness for nearly a week. how she >> maybe you'll find the baby. we hear from the neighbors of a woman lost in the wilderness for nearly a week. how she managed to survive days in the cold without food or water. heavy rain, windchill in the bay area today. beginning to taper off but still more showers. when will it end? we will tell you coming up. hundreds of thousands of dollars for the victims of the san bruno pipeline disaster. why a lot of the money has yet to be distributed. music and dance fill a star studded night. their contributions to the entertainment world. >> i'm ann notarangelo. this is what it looks like outside right now. the rain is moving out. you can see lots of clouds.

5000 pg&e customers lost power earlier today. what can you expect for your commute tomorrow? meteorologist lawrence karnow with more on what we can expect. >> the main cold front now just making its way past the bay area. still scattered showers. we did have a report earlier of gusts of 47. even 50 miles per hour along the san mateo county bridge. still, pockets of modern amounts of rainfall just north of santa rosa. some pretty good cells up in this direction. sonoma. heaviest activity in the north bay continuing further to the south. south of sonoma into the napa valley. showers around san rafael. more widely scattered across the rest of the bay area. still more scattered showers off the coastline. doppler picking up on that. more widely scattered. no real strong band of moisture. headed up to the sierra.

more showers to contend with. how long will it stick around? will it affect us? a hiker is spending a sec night in the hospital tonight. the woman was found yesterday in the northern part of redwood state park near false creek. don knapp shows us the rescue and rejoicing. >> reporter: a twisted ankle left debra collins stranded for six days on an unmarked trail in the santa cruz mountains until a twist of fate prompted two hikers who already decided to turn back to make a last- minute decision to check out an unmarked trail. there they found collins lying beneath a tree. >> it is like i'm in a dream. >> reporter: good news nor friends and family who found her. >> the fellow that found her thought he would hike here because he might be able to do some good. >> he came from the complete other direction. >> reporter: collins was laying

four layers of clothes when she wept running on november 28th. she survived in temperatures as low as 30 degrees with no food and water she could scoop from a nearby creek in a plastic bag. saturday morning, someone had a hunch. >> my neighbor has a friend who is psychic. she calls her friend and her psychic friend says i don't see any violence involved and i see her in the creek leaning against a tree. >> reporter: a little psychic guidance and weather that was giving folks cabin fever contributed to the rescue. >> he wanted to go hiking. go to false creek. maybe you'll find the lady. >> and they just kept hiking. >> and they fond her. >> reporter: collins is being treated for frost bite and exhaustion. don knapp, cbs5. one person was shot.

another was tased at or near a b.a.r.t station in the east bay today. the shooting victim was struck in the leg around 1:00 to p.m. this afternoon. san lien -- san leandro police used a stun gun. other by area headlines. parents of an antioch toddler shot and killed on his second birthday are out on bail. the couple were arrested on charges including child endangerment thursday. that day, the 2-year-old and his 4-year-old brother were alone in a bedroom when the 2- year-old was shot in the head. it is unclear who pulled the trigger. he had just bought the gun and loaded it and pulled it in a drawer. they are due in court tomorrow. a water main break left neighbors on a san francisco block without water earlier today after the water main broke in the morning.

it happened on the 2800 block in a cal hollow neighborhood. the water department says a 6- inch pipe broke. workers are trying to figure out what caused that break. a sick sea line found wandering streets is doing much better tonight. the female sea line was rescued in a school yard and taken to the marine mammal center in sos. she is suffering from an illness that affects animals that feed on fish that have eaten toxic algae. the sea line is eating and moving around in her pen. a dilemma over donations three months after the san bruno disaster. the city collected about $380,000 in donations for victims of suspect's pipeline explosion and the red cross raised another million. in addition to compensating those affected by the blast the city council might use

donations for a memorial for the ate lives lost or beauty projects. some survivors want the money distributed in time for christmas. the city will decide what to do after the holidays. tomorrow the battle over gay marriage goes before a federal appeals panel and the next step in the process is expected to go all the way to the u.s. supreme court. linda yee why opponents rallied on the eve of the hearing. >> reporter: they stood in the rain to make their point as gay and lesbian couples they should have the right to be legally married. >> i would love to be married to her an i would love for her to have my health insurance and have all those benefits that marriage provides you. >> reporter: a forecast judge said it is unconstitutional. but prop 8 supporters are appealing saying restricting promotes responsible

procreation and child rearing values. >> twice now the people of california have voted to preserve and protect marriage as a union of a man and a woman. and that decision of the people of california is a legitimate and confused institutional act. >> reporter: same-sex couples say they are excluded from the marriage act. >> makes me feel the people of my state hate me and think that i don't count as a full citizen and shouldn't have the same rights that they have. >> reporter: the judge agreed prop 8 violates basic freedoms. >> it shows discrimination hurts real problem and it hurts real families. realism-sex couples that want to have simply the freedom to marry and have the quality for their family. >> reporter: the first hour of argument will concentrate on weather prop 8 supporters should even have the right to appeal. the second hour the lawyers will argue the

constitutionality of banning same-sex marriage. california shouldn't have haves and have notes. that's what will be heard in the courtroom on monday morning. >> americans are tired of litigants and courts imposing their view of marriage on the rest of society. >> the three judges will issue a written opinion after the hearing. no decision will be known tomorrow. there are two possible scenarios. which ever side loses they can choose to appeal again to a full 9th district court of appeal or to the u.s. supreme court but neither court is obligated to take the case. ann? >> linda, thank you very much. >> you're welcome. an ominous warning tonight before tomorrow's special session of the state legislature. ugly cuts are coming. that word from governor arnold schwarzenegger's spokesman. tomorrow lawmakers get down to business with the budget trying to agree on a way to close the $6 billion deficit. this morning on cbs5 early edition an as emblywoman talked about his plans. >> we know what the cuts are

and he has already said they will be ugly, drastic nasty cuts so for us we want to see what our next governor is going to going to do. we want to work with him. >> jerry brown will take over for arnold schwarzenegger in about a month. three police cruisers smashed during a pursuit. officers were chasing a stolen dump truck. the chaos and who came out of the truck when the case finally endedded. christmas trees that are more environmentally friendly. now you can rent them so you can give them back to the earth. democrats and republicans getting closer to reaching a deal that would keep your taxes from going up on january 1st. ,,,,,,

leaders of both parties are optimistic they will reach a compromise before the end of the legislative session. >> reporter: the republican leader in the senate has offered reassurances that a deal will be reached to extend bush era tax cuts for americans at every income level. >> i think it is pretty clear now taxes are not going up on anybody in the middle of this recession. we are discussing how long we should maintain current tax rates. >> reporter: the cuts expire at the end of the year. president obama insists the legislation must also include an extension of unemployment benefits. his administration estimates that 7 million americans could lose their benefits in the next year. >> i can tell you that without unemployment benefits being extended personally this is a nonstarter. >> reporter: republicans say they are open to ensuring the benefits will continue even if they don't get the cuts they want in other parts of the federal budget. >> i think that most folks believe that the recipe would include at least an extension of unemployment benefits for those who are unemployed and an extension of all of the tax

rates for all americans for some period of time. >> the nays are 36. >> reporter: they won't allow taxes to rise. >> the republicans have been willing to hold unemployment insurance hostage to this bonus tax cut that has the least impact and adds to the deficit. >> negotiations continue between both parties and the white house. terrell brown, cbc news. a jump at the pump at gas stations. lundburg survey saying the nationwide average for a gallon of regular is $2. 91. that's up nearly 4 cents in the past two weeks. here in california the price is up by about a penny to $3. 14. san francisco has the state's highest price at $3. 19. fresno the cheapest at. 309. the driver of a stolen dump

truck leads police on a chase. the officer's dash cam shows the truck running amuck as it smashes into police cruisers as well as civilian vehicles. the chase went through the center of town then into a neighbouring county and at within point the driver even maneuvered in reverse. the driver, a 17-year-old boy. his two passengers a 13-year- old girl and a 15-year-old boy got out and ran. >> we made attempts to stop him with stop sticks and other devices made to deflate tires and were not successful. >> the chase continued onto the interstate for 50 miles. the driver finally plowed into a guardrail. that's what stopped the truck and he was taken into custody. two officers and two civilians were injured in the rampage. >> all right. lawrence is back because we need to know more about tomorrow's storm. >> wasn't that kind of fun today, ann? >> it was. it was beautiful. >> neat to see the rain coming

around once in a while. won't be as bad tomorrow morning. skies trying to part a bit. still a lot of clouds out there and scattered showers continuing at this hour. looks like the focus towards the north bay as we will see more scattered showers and pockets of moderate amounts of rainfall in that area. santa rosa still seeing showers. some scattered showers. showers into the napa valley. a little bit further south you're still seeing some moisture there and continuing showers. it will be on and off throughout the night tonight. becoming more hit and miss. won't see that well defined line of a cold front. you'll see more scattered showers popping up around the bay area especially over the mountain tops. some pretty good cells are starting to wrap in and probably headed onshore as we head into the next couple hours. this cold front pretty interesting. cold front coming swinging through in the evening and some pretty good gusty winds. wind advisory has come down now. we are starting to see winds

subside somewhat. temperatures mild mainly in the 60s outside right now. but as we head into tomorrow we will try to crank some numbers into the 50s and keep things fairly mild outside. already seeing a storm out here. going to catch a brief break. more showers tonight and into tomorrow morning. but after that things begin to wind down and as we head towards tuesday we start to dry out for throes a day then things change again. showers continuing on and off throughout the night tonight. model trying to put in a thunderstorm. don't think that will happen. widely scattered showers for the morning commute. middle of the day in the afternoon the rain really begins to wind down and by the afternoon the skies probably parting seeing sunshine drying things out around the bay area. sets up tuesday pretty nicely. 50s and 60s in the bay area tomorrow. next few days more unsettled weather on tap for the bay area. another storm system drops in come wednesday. showers could continue into thursday. there is a slight chance maybe a leftover shower on friday
