members of the public who attempt to gain access. the police can prevent that and even sure if anything were to occur out of the ordinary, they can step in and maintain order. parents at this children's park were surprised to learn of the officer-involved shooting that ended in a loss of life. they call this area safe. but another parent says she worries about working here safely with her toddler. >> i believe i'm aware of the violence, it's all around us. so, i mean, i'm worried that it's out there. i'm aware it's not safe to be here at night. >> reporter: the dead man was identified as mr. brown, 20 years old. the woman he was with has not been publicly identified but today she was arrested by police on charges of auto theft. a woman remains hospitalized tonight with life- threatening injuries after she

was shot by daly city police. she hit a house and then backed her car boo an officer. -- into an officer. police opened fire hitting her at least once. a man who apparently fell over board while fishing, rescuers searched until 8:00 this morning. someone contacted the authorities after spotting his boat fried with no one on board. his relatives say he was familiar with the area and usually went fishing with a friend. >> we're going to stay positive and hope for the best. something will come up. >> reporter: his friends are continuing to search. drivers could resume their search as early as tomorrow for a 4-year-old. that little boy was kidnapped

tuesday by his mother's boyfriend. a witness told police, a car matching the skips of the toyota corolla went into the canal. several cars have been pulled out. none are the suspect's car. they are legal, easy to get but very dangerous to use. some states are already taking steps to ban the bath salts who's effects are compared to meth. >> they are called bath salts but these products sold under the names i'very wave, bliss or white lightning. >> some people are having psycho sis, severe symptoms, very addict active, much like meth. >> they are legally sold in

smoke shops, head shops or online. emergency rooms report patients suffering from hallucinations, par now i can't and suicidial thoughts. one can cut his throat and then killed himself. it's a drug that hasn't quite made it into san francisco's -- yet. >> we do sell the -- they are a little different. >> reporter: this head shop owner dries the line at bath salts. >> these are more like a methamphetamine. >> that ruined the -- speed and heroine are drugs that i don't want to do anything with or promote. >> five states are considering outlying these bath salts. even if they disappear, there is always something else.

head shop owners say there is a new mind altering drug every year made from some type of herb. that's because manufacturers are trying to stay one step ahead of the government. it is a multi-million dollars business. it's an industry ta keeps -- that keeps reinventing et cetera. vallejo police have identified the woman shot to death inside her car yesterday. a 27-year-old became the city's second homicide victim in 24 hours. a 23-year-old was arrested near the scene. a second suspect got away. investigators are not saying if they have determined a motive. a battle over a battle ship is heating up in the bay area. a uss iowa has been did he commissioned for decades --

two people dead and two deputies wounded. police got a call about a suspicio he store a shoot-out at a wal-mart has left two people dead and two deputies wounded. deputies say they tried to talk to the man who then ran and began shooting and hitting three victims. a woman was shot and killed. the gunman was killed by deputies. so far no motive for the shooting. in another shooting at a detroit police precinct. four officers were wounded when someone entered the building and started shooting. congresswoman gabrielle giffords' condition is improving daily. she remains in intensive care in a houston hospital due to a buildup of brain fluid. she will begin rehab in the nearby facility when she's ready. a member of her staff is now

degrees above the average. mostly clear skies over the bay area right now. things fairly calm. last night, a little breezy at times. it's not quite as windy out there tonight. that will be the worst much it. otherwise we're looking good. lots of sunshine today. high pressure sitting overhead. we had a couple of high clouds running across the ridge. tomorrow we are going to get close starting out with a couple more patches of fog, but by the afternoon, lots of sunshine, not bad at all. 50s and 60s coast side. so we're staying high and dry and a little bit chilly right now. 44 degrees in fairfield. 43 in santa rosa and a milder temperature of 55 degrees in pacifica. watch out for the dense fog down toward the fresno area healed toward the grape vine. not as bad -- patchy dense fog

in the sacramento valley. temperatures into the 50s up in lake take -- lake tahoe. we have some beautiful weather you might as well get out and enjoy it. a couple of these storm systems will weaken somewhat, may help to cool town the temperatures -- cool down the temperatures a little bit. otherwise, temperatures will be well above the average. some of those numbers near record. how about this, 30s aened 40s around the bay area but as we head toward the afternoon here comes that sunshine again. 67 in palo alto. plenty of sunshine. interior valley, maybe lay more fog overnight tonight. probably only about 59 degrees

in brentwood. but as you make your way in towards pittsburgh -- 65 degrees in alameda. the temperatures pretty comfortable in most spots. 63 degrees in san francisco. looking out over the next few days, patchy fog, otherwise looking pretty good, lot of sunshine coming our way. that wind switches direction as we head toward the latter part of the week, that means probably some cooler weather making its way into the area. how about a picture for you? >> ocean beach at sunset. you can go out there and enjoy some nice, warm weather. >> it's been remarkable. you said no rain in sight but are you thinking we need to get some rain. >> i'm thinking this is pretty

anne makovec on why the bay area was chosen to restore the ship to its former "spl a survivor of an accident at the sea is sitting onshore tonight. >> it's pretty amazing. you don't get to see a ship that large that often. >> reporter: the carnival splendor, while it looks impressive on a sunny day, let's not forget how it got here. last november, the ship caught fire at sea. the engines were dead in the water. no electricity, no hot water, an overflowing sewage system and very little food.

after being stranded at sea for three days, the ship landed in san diego. today it docked in san francisco, the port with the biggest dry dock for final repairs. in theory this boat will be fixed by the time it leaves san francisco, but we asked some folks would you be the next to sign up for a cruise on it. >> no way. no way. >> why not? >> because i'm greek and i've seen how they go down. >> it's probably better because they are checking the whole ship over again. >> i think the pattern indicates you can't trust that. >> it may have had bad quality, so if it had a fire again, i wouldn't want to be in it. >> reporter: it's expected to be here at least a month and it will employ about -- >> i'm ready. i'm willing. i'm able. and i would even sign -- no i
