you're watching cbs 5 eyewitness news on the cw. another flash flood forces crews to abandon cleanup efforts and residents make a run for it. >> it was like a river ran through my house. >> additional damage to a neighborhood already suffering. only for the well equipped. heavy rains cause problems on farmland and close highways in the north bay. on the move, several homes in san pablo teetering on the edge are slowly creeping down the side of a hill while the city still struggles with what to do. >> and good evening, flooding, mud slides, homes in danger, people evacuated. the latest in a series of storms still causing problems all over the bay area. but with storms following storm, cleanup has been

difficult. ann shows us today, capatola was hit by another flash flood. >> a russian river once again took over the village saturday, water rescuers could do nothing but watch after a second flood started at this mobile home park, pushing water through the city downtown. flooding dozens of homes. >> it was like a river ran through my house. >> and businesses. >> i have weeks ahead of me. it doesn't feel like fun work. >> this is where it all began on thursday night when a culvert burst under ground and sent water shooting into the village. this time the hole is larger. they are estimating it is 20 feet deep. 20 feet wide, and 100 feet long. when the pipe burst saturday morning, workers just finished stabilizing it from the earlier floods. >> the rains, the volume of water. the heavy rain overran the

crews. they had to abandon their equipment and seek shelter at higher ground. >> the floor literally fell out from under some homes. >> furniture, vacuum cleaners, couches going down the street. >> and a mobile home staircase in the middle of the avenue. this woman lives on river view drive. earlier, lived up to its name. >> we started moving stuff because it was running so rapidly that it was taking the patio furniture and my garbage cans and stuff. >> today, her carpet is soaked. >> it's just water. >> or is it? >> i seen some oil. we have seen some gas. maybe some other nasty stuff in there. so we are advising people to not make contact with the water. >> this is meteor rite meteorite and gold. >> someone is throwing sandbags in front of my door, but i couldn't see them. >> everything is soaking wet, which is why i'm sitting out

here enjoying and drinking a beer. >> you have a remarkably good attitude. >> thank you. i mean, such is life, right? you have to let things roll off of you. >> in capatola. flooding in sanoma county, all four lanes covered in about 2 feet of water. the chp set up detours around the intersection, which was closed for more than four hours. all lanes are open again. it was also flooding in santa rosa. two lanes were closed with about a foot and a half of water. in mill valley, families evacuated their homes. the mud did not reach their homes, but they were worried about the condition of the earth beneath the road. engineers are assessing the damage and they'll determine when the third homeowner will be able to return. some homeowners in san

pablo weren't so lucky. a landslide threatened several homes and additional rain yesterday and today made the situation precarious. the owners of one yellow tagged house were moving out. don. >> reporter: that's right, anne. despite a day of not much rain, the threat continues. this hillside continued to slide all day long and san pablo officials drew up an emergency decloration, which they hope to finalize this weekend and get to the governor's desk by monday. >> hillside behind and under the house hasn't stopped sliding since thursday. >> as of right now, it's unstable. they did advise us that the hail is moving and they can't guarantee the houses will be here tomorrow. >> last night, blanca and their two kids slept in the sliding house for the last time. >> they had to pack and all we hear is cracking. the roof, the bottom,

everything is cracking. so we knew that it's over. >> earlier in the day, friends from church loaded family belongings into a rental church. she watched and became tiery eyed as reality set in. >> we were there when they got baptized. >> six houses are threatened by the sliding hillside. conversations have turned from grief to responsibility and blame. someone found old pictures of what they said was a 1980 slide below hill crest that showed pictures of the road they say the city fixed. >> no indication, no disclosure that the house had actually slid down the hill. >> the walkers and their children will spend this night in a hotel. tomorrow and their future is a question mark. >> we are losing the house. there's no way i can repair the house. if i did, there's no way i can repair the hill. right now i'm going to be

homeless. >> despite drying up an emergency decloration, there's not much planned to stabilize this hillside. it will be another worrysome night for the neighbors. thank you. and we're not out of the woods yet. another storm tomorrow, but meteorologist, lawrence says there is light at the end of the tunnel. oh lawrence, i hope so. >> this next storm system doesn't look like it will be half of what we saw today. we are seeing scattered showers out there. along the peninsula to the south, bringing more showers on the coastline here. and just some widely scattered showers further to the north. you have some scattered showers, also further south into mill valley. now it looks like throughout the night, showers will come to an end. a few closed continuing to move their way and we are not done with the rain just yet. there's another storm sitting off the coastline and beginning to set itself up. let's take a look at the computer model. starting out at midnight.

most of the showers should have ended by then and a rather quiet night rain wise. begin to change as early as tomorrow morning. we begin to see showers developing. and then as we take you through the day, the day starts to sag. probably going to weaken as it moves on through. a chance of more rain outside. a quarter of an inch in some of the wetter spots. there is some sunshine, maybe some 70s coming your way. we'll talk about that in a few minutes. back to you. people living in 160 homes in pleasantton are being warned not to drink the tap water until at least monday. a water main was damaged yesterday by a landslide caused by the rain. this is in the ridge above the neighborhood. now crews have completed a bipartisan of the water main while they work on repairing it. the ten homes that lost water all together, they should have it restored by now and homes with low water pressure should see things back to normal by the end of the weekend. >> and this morning, an

example of why boating in san francisco bay may not be the best idea during a storm. just after 8:00 a.m., a may day call off of pierce 27. the capsized boat you see here was flipped over, sending two people into the water. the coast guard was able to rescue them and no injuries were reported. take a look now at traffic on interstate 80. that was earlier this evening near truckee. this is after the weak storms near squaw valley and they received more than 50 feet of snow for the season. that's the third time since 1970 that that's happened. well, she made history as the first woman to be nominated vice president of the united states by a major political party. former congresswoman, geraldine has died. the life and career of a political pioneer. >> ladies and gentlemen of the convention, my name is

geraldine. >> she made history in 1984 when she became the first woman to run for vice president on a major u.s. ticket. >> america is the land where dreams can come true for all of us. >> she died at a massachusetts hospital where she was being treated for blood cancer. in a statement, president obama said, she will for ever be remembered as a trailblazer who broke down barriers for women and americans of all backgrounds and walks of life. >> are we going to win this one? >> feraro was a little known congresswoman from queens, new york, when democratic presidential nominee, walter mondale chose her as his running mate. >> vice president, has such a nice ring to it. >> but they lost the election to ronald reagan in a landslide that november. feraro's run also had its share of controversy. there were ethical questions

about her campaign finances and her husband's business dealings. she never again held public office, losing bids for the senate in 1992 and '98. in 2008, there was more controversy. feraro, a supporter of hillary clinton's presidential campaign made remarks suggesting that then, senator obama was doing well in the race because he is black. she resigned an honorary post with the clinton campaign, but continued to defend her statement. >> it wasn't a racist comment, it was a comment, a statement of fact. >> she was diagnosed with multiple mialoma in 1998 and underwent treatments for years. >> you have to give yourself hope. >> but recently the cancer caused severe complications. doctors say she was surrounded by family when she passed away. feraro was 75 years old. alexis, cbs news. violence in london where nearly half a million people

this is their a big victory for rebel groups in libya as they take control in the city. this is their first win since coalition air strikes began a week ago against moammar gadhafi's military. here is more. >> reporter: libyan rebels danced on burned out tanks. fired guns in the air and flew their flags saturday. they retook the key coastal city after beating back moammar gadhafi's forces. further west in tripoli, a woman said she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by government troops for two days. before she could finish her story, government security guards stepped in, pushing journalists out of the way. hotel staff grabbed the woman and threw her out. outside, she raised her dress to show her bruised body before security drove her away. >> she is basically safe and

departure. his opponents accuse him of maneuvering to hold on to power. shoe throwing is a sign of contempt in arab culture. continue clashing with riot police in london after more than a quarter million people marched in the city today. they are protesting the toughest cuts to public spending since world war ii. some small break away groups spray painted walls. protesters rushed inside before police arrived to block the doorway. today's demonstration may be the largest since the one at the start of the iraq war. a computer crash at alaska airlines led to the cancellation of 15% of the company's flights nationwide. the central computer system went down around 3:00 this morning. in the bay area, five flights from sfo and one from oakland international airport were canceled. several other flights were delayed from 2 to 4 hours.

it may be disappointing news, but one ticket, the $319 million jackpot and it was sold at a tiny variety store in albany, new york. the jackpot, the fifth largest in megamillions history and the winner has yet to come forward. >> it's great that somebody that comes into this, and hopefully it's a regular customer and maybe a grown up of people from, you know, an office around here. that could be nice, too. >> if the winner chose the cash option, he or she will receive a one time lump sum payment of $203 million. the store owner gets $10,000 for selling the ticket. >> okay, check your tickets anyway because you may have another winning combination. five californians have won nearly $100,000. here are the winning numbers, 22, 24, 31, 52, and 54.

the meganumber is 4. >> californians had won some money, checking your ticket, lawrence? >> you bet i am. hey focus, looks like tonight things are winding down. finally rain wise, even i'm looking forward to sunshine, but today, an interesting day out there. some scattered showers continuing on and off throughout the day. not a whole lot. high deaf doppler, those continue along the peninsula in toward half-moon bay. you can see the activity right there. also to our north, we are seeing more scattered showers. getting some wet stuff moving in there. still it looks like most of this will continue to wind down before we get ready for that next storm system. as far as rain totals, pretty impressive. check this out. in santa cruz mountain, 34r-78 inches of rain.

of course they have had the mud sliding, and overan inch of rain fall. so impressive rain totals. around the bay area, you had almost an inch in napa. and over an inch in oakland. now we are running way above average. temperatures right now into the 40s and 50s. as we head through the night, we will see more clouds on the way. tomorrow around the state, it's going to make a return as it looks like showers are going to show up. high country, guess what? they are going to see a mixed bag. see rain and snow as we head toward tomorrow. the temperature not all that cold. about 41 degrees for a high tomorrow and then as we head in toward monday and tuesday, you want to get into some great skiing conditions. should be fantastic on those days and it's going to be dry. high pressure trying to get here, but can't get her fast enough. that's going to drop down into the bay area. it looks like a chance of more

rain developing as we head in towards the afternoon. still, this is how things are going to work out. we are expecting the clouds to part. that will bring with it a a chaps of showers first, as we head towards the afternoon, we are going to cross the rest of the bay area. we have clouds, we have another shot at rain. like this doesn't look like a big weather maker. with that in minted, we have a ray of hope at the end of the forecast. we are going to see dryer weather towards monday and tuesday and how about this? we have temperatures not only in the 70s. we have mid 70s, some nice weather. this will be the nicest weather we have seen all spring as we head towards thursday. before we get used to it. >> we can hope. thanks, lauren.
